I am having this very
weird problem with my iPod. Actually, the problem is more with my
computer. My Firewire cable died and I switched to using the USB cable
to hook my iPod to my computer. I was actually surprised how much
faster USB worked. Anyway, ever since I started using the USB cable I
cannot boot up my computer with the iPod connected. It's the oddest
thing. It will hang at the BIOS screen and won't continue to boot
unless I disconnect the iPod. I've gona as far as trying to disable USB
in the BIOS and that didn't even work. I have no idea what could be
causing it. Any ideas?

TO be honest, I'm surprised your computer would boot WITH is connected. I could have sworn the instructions I got with mine told me never to do that. So you're connecting the same way I have always connected, and since it works I don't think it's really that big a problem, just a difference for you from the norm.

But if you're dead set on having it connected, maybe the your computer's boot order or whatever you call is is set to look for removable drives before trying to boot from you hard drive? I don't even know if that's possible.

I tried messing with the BIOS. I didn't know you weren't supposed to
boot up with the iPod connected. It was never a problem with Firewire.
Oh well. No big deal, just kind of annoying.

Another iPod question:

I don't have one. Think aboot getting the Shuffle. My question is this:

On my computer iTunes player, I have assigned certain EQ curves to certain songs (by right clicking and going to "get info", etc etc)

If I send a track to the Shuffle or the iPod, will it retain my EQ assignment or will it automatically revert back to a flat EQ setting?

Thanks.

It's probably the boot sequence looking at the ipod. some usb
hardware has done this to me in the past. Just don't have it
plugged in at bootup or return to firewire.

And
firewire speeds edge out USB2.0, but not by too much. The bigger
advantage (esp in the iPod case) is that the firewire can carry more
current so you don't need the second wire for power.

Here is another idea that will certainly solve your problem...

DITCH THE PC AND GET A MAC!

A computer that is your friend instead of a bloody wrestling opponent.

While I don't have the same problem you have, I do find from time to time that the iPod if it's in the dock when the system is booting will trigger Windows to give me a message with the drive needing to be checked for errors. I always have to remember to stop it immediately at that point, or just leave the iPod out of the dock until the system is fully up. If I do that, then everything is fine.

the exact same thing happens to me, with the computer booting up and
just stopping...it didn't happen on my old dell, but now i've got an hp
and i can't have the ipod docked until the computer is booted
up...firewires with these things stink! i kept getting this error
on my "underground" uploads and nothing was transferring
properly...couldn't find anything out about the error, until i just
wiggled the firewire and realized it was the wire...i changed to the
usb 2.0 its faster and no issues...
I never claimed to be different, I always said I was bored....
