would you buy XM service to listen to ron and fez?

I have XM. Now that I have it I can say with all honesty it is wonderful. Since I've had it ( about 2 months) I haven't listened to "regular" radio at all. The best deal/value is the ROADY 2. It's all in one and can be switched from car to car, to house. It's one of those things that is so hard to tell people about, because you really need to try it to understand. ONCE YOU DO THOUGH......YOU WILL not REGRET IT. Trust me.

I'm on a terribly tight budget but I've already decided in my mind that if they go to xm, so to go I.

I already voted yes with my wallet on buying XM to hear O&A, but would have done the same for R&F if they jumped in first.

i'm really conflicted and iffy on the whole thing ...

i love the whole concept of satellite, but i just got a 20gb iriver with the bulk of my colllection (5k songs) -- so i have all the music i really need ...

i love all the baseball games on XM, but sirius has a lot of cooler jocks/personalities and shows ...

i wasn't too impressed with what i've heard of O/A's new show, a little too much for my tastes ... and i've grown so sick of stern that he's not a factor for me ... i'm kind of tired listening to millionaires constantly complaining and moaning ...

then on a logistic level: i have a 30 minute commute, half on the subway ... then i work in a windowless office with horrible FM/AM and UHF/VHF reception ... so i don't know if it's worth it ...

i've been talking with my girlfriend, and we're thinking of 'sharing' (with her using it during her commute and in her office, and i'll have it at night and on the nights/weekends when it's more convenient for me) ... but she's more of a stern fan ...

so, i really don't know what i'll do ...

eh

I bought my xm for O&A, but I don't know how I lived without it. I keep the Roady 2 in my car at all times and listen to the online "xstream" all day at work.

Whether I want it or not, I'm paying for XM if that's how I'll need to hear R&F.

Maybe if I had a longer commute it would seem more appealing...

And outside of R&F, I have zero desire to listen to any kind of radio in the house...I have too many CD's.

I already have XM but even if, theoretically, O&A remained on a premium channel and then R&F came aboard and were placed on another premium channel at $1.99 more per month, I would absolutely buy their channel as well.

If it came down to R&F going to Sirius, I wouldn't cancel XM in favor of Sirius, but if equipment existed that allowed you to get both systems on one receiver, I would save up for an upgrade.

I bought XM for O&A, would do it in a SECOND for Ron & Fez. Do you realize how much more SHOW you get without all the commercial breaks? O& A break just long enough to take a leak, you probably gt 45 more minutes of show! Beyond O&A or R&F, XM has so much programming. There is something for everyone in your family. It is just like digital cable/satellite tv without the picture. My problem is that whenever my wife is in the car we are listening to the Boneyard or 20 on 20. It is well worth the money and with Ron & Fez it should be a slam dunk for any TRUE fans.

I would have to assume they have XM just because they are in the radio buisness and probably like to keep an eye out on things. They probably have Siruis and Ham Radios as well.

O& A break just long enough to take a leak, you probably gt 45 more minutes of show!

Lately they seem to take more time for breaks. Not much more. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, I'm guessing they just need time to eat like normal people.

Then what is a true fan? If you are not willing to pay to hear them, I do not think you can call yourself a true fan, plain and simple. I true fan would go to great lengths to hear the show, like I have for the last 2 years since I am in NY. 13.00 a month is like 40 cents a day! Come on, is it really that much money to pay for something we ALL enjoy? I'm not trying to start trouble, I am just stating the obvious.

How about my other question, that a couple of people entertained - would you buy Sirius to hear Ron and Fez? EVEN if you already owned XM?

What would a TRUE fan do?

A true fan is someone who enjoys the show possibly contributes. When they were in NYC we all called and listened. Just because I don't want to pay for ths stuff and fee doesn't make me any less of a fan than you, so get off your soap box.

Plus, depending on what time slot Ron and Fez get if they move, I might not be able to listen and interact with the live show, so I'd be paying all this money for a million shitty music stations I don't want and a taped Ron and Fez show? No thanks. Most of the appeal of O&A and R&F's show is how they interat with the fans life on the phone and on the feedbacks. Taped shows are not as good.

Just because I came to the conclusion that the satelllite set up isn't convenient enough for me to pay for doesn't make me less of a fan either.

I understand your position and I am not trying to sound like I'm on a soap box. I have been listening to taped shows for most of the last 2 years, I try to catch the last hour or so each night. I am excited that they may be going to a better place and would like to hear them when they are happy wit their gigs. I do not think they like WJFK and WJFK has done nothing but jerk them around. You could always just subscribe to the online portion of XM for a few bucks a month.

I have hated regular radio for years. I love music but hated the stupid shows, endless commercials. When I heard about Satellite radio I thought it was just the same crap and now I have to pay.

The only reason I started listening to the radio again was O and A and then Ron and Fez.

Well I did eventually get XM and really loved it. To listen to O and A is just making it better.

To have Ron and Fez on MX would be just GREAT!!!

I miss them from the NY days...

I've listened to D & M, Stern and the Junkies for years. But I have to say that Ron & Fez are probably the only ones I would buy XM or any other satellite radio thing for. Hell, I've never joined a message board before and finally decided to since I enjoy them so much...............that's not pathetic, is it ?

I already have the XM for O&A, but the R&F rumblings were a
factor in the decision. I would have gone for R&F, but I wouldn't
take R&F over O&A if they were on different platforms. R&F
are my #2. Glad to see the band looks to be getting back together.
Never heard Farrel, though. We'll see how that pans out.

This is a retarded question but are there commercials on XM? I figured maybe since there is a monthly fee they wouldn't subject their listeners to commercials. (Keeps fingers crossed.)

O&A (and I assume the other talk stations, but admittedly I haven't checked) have a few commercials, usually for stuff that's going on down the dial somewhere else on the XM platform (XM loves pushing their "Artist Confidentials", the MyFi, etc.), and then there's the occassional dick-cream like in the 'NEW days. Some of it is just neccessary, it's a way for the hosts to take pee-breaks. But O&A usually break for about 5 minutes per hour instead of the approximately 20 minutes per hour that your normal radio station would mandate.

The music stations do not have commercials, that's their big selling point.

The music channels are
commercial free. The talk and entertainment channels have minimal
commercial breaks (about 3 minutes) every half hour-to-an-hour. Ron and
Fez will have commercials on XM, but far, far less than now.

The
breaks are as much about giving everyone a chance to gather themselves
periodically than advertising. Before they actually had commercials,
O&A would still take little 3 or 4 minute breaks and just
playa stand up comedy bit or something.
I got xm when Opie and Anthony went over, and their show is amazing without having to dump out all the time or play 20 minutes of commercial an hour. The music channels are really good. The only problem is that other than O&A, they have nothing interesting talk wise. Hopefully Ron and Fez can help change that.

I hope I don't end up being a sucker, but I bought it 10 minutes ago. I got the Roady 2 with the car and home kit and remote for $84 (w/ shipping). I made the July 2nd deadline for the free 2nd Roady 2, but I doubt I'll redeem it, unless I convince my dad he needs it. Then we can split the cost for the family plan.

I could have convinced my mom about the family plan, but she already got XM last Christmas. She paid the whole $300 for the MyFi because she liked seeing Elton John walk around with it in that damn commercial.

I'm not going to activate XM until the R&F thing is official, and even if they don't go to XM, I will probably still keep it. OnA have trouble filling up 4 hours. There are a lot of pauses and dead air. They can't interview. Opie just turns to being mean since he can't be funny. Certainly their ability to just be comfortable talking and filling up time on the radio is lacking. (This is all from wnew memories; I haven't heard them on XM.)
btw... if you can afford it spring for the pioneer portable unit not
the Mifi... they both have the same features but the mifi internal
antenna is not great and you need the lipstick antenna that comes with
it... the pioneer internal antenna is much better

all the features are the same... both have 5 hours recording (more if it is talk progamming because it used less bandwith)

if you need a radio that is more durable check out the tao... it is a stronger version of the mifi...

however
my real suggestion is just buy a cheap roadie 2 right now (you can get
one at www.myradiostore.us for around $40) and then save up for the new
samsung portable+Mp3 player... that way you will be able to have a
mifi/MP3 player in one and get rid of the ipod.... the samsung should
be out by christmas time and with xm's new deal with naptser you will
be all set up...

I also recommend the Roady 2 WITH car kit for 40 bucks on myradiostore.com. NOt the best unit, but for 40 bucks it's a no brainer. You just can't get a better deal than that. It has the receiver, power, antenna, and tape adapter. If you don't have a tape adapter the roady 2 has a built in wireless FM modulator.

If you like it, sell it off for probalby close to what you paid for it and get another with more features.

I told my boss about Ron & Fez going to XM (he heard the show occasionally when he worked late and I was listening--I always work late hours by choice) and told him about their new time slot (11-2). He's been trying to get me to work earlier hours for years, so he said he'd buy the XM service AND even get me a portable unit for my car if I came in to work early enough to listen to Ron and Fez live. Tempting offer, but I don't know if I can get up that early!

Well I just dove in. I got the online service. I'm on board now. I figured that it'll be worth it for now to hear O&A replays and when Ron and Fez start, if I can hear them in a replay at night, it'll be OK.

I am still very concerned that if 202 fills with live shows I won't get my replays. Then, I'll have to dump it unless it's just SOOOOO good that I'm hooked. Doubt that's gonna happen.

I totally got XM because of Ron and Fez. At first I thought I
would just get the internet service so I could listen to them at work,
but I'm glad I didn't do that. I have a roady 2 hooked to my
stereo and the music stations are awesome. I've basically only
listened to a few - fungus, lucy, the joint, and the boneyard. I have
noticed they play some songs more often (dropkick murphy's - sunshine
highway & transplants -gangster's and thugs come to mind right
now). That being said, I find myself constantly writing down
names of bands I've never heard before that are awesome - just a little
while ago I head a band called the F-ups that were awesome.

So far, my assessment is that XM is awesome and R&F are icing on the cake.

PS - thanks to mikey boy for posting all those mp3s - I've been enjoying them for a long time.

PPS
- to all the people who hate R&F. I was so pissed when they
came to DC and took over the replay of the first hour of the sports
junkies. Fez's voice drove me nuts. My cousin made me
listen one night and they were talking about shooting people in
afganistan from c130 gunships while hitting the cow bell. I have
been hooked ever since then...

I'm also curious what exactly happenned that made come over to satellite in the 1st place. were they fired? laid off? just curious as to what happened that made them leave commercial radio and land on XM as opposed to Sirius? I only have one complaint regarding O & A Too many damn replays, and not enough of R&F.

when i bought the xm it was for just the music in general. i then got hooked on to O&A and became a heavy listener. When Roan and Fez came aboard I did not like them at first, but after really giving them a listen I have been hooked now for over 4 months. So, to answer the question now that I have heard them and love them I would buy XM just to listen to Ron & Fez.

Subscribed for O&A when they came to XM. This year have been spending more time listening to R&F. Good times.
i bought XM originally just for O&A (before ron & fez started) now that Ron & Fez are on and O&A are on "Free FM" from 6-9 one of the big reasons I am keeping XM is for Ron & Fez.
