I looooved this show. Still do actually.

I bought a DVD a few years ago with 4 episodes on it. Classic.
It also had a new interview with "ChaKa" and "Holly". Adulthood was not at all kind to her. She looked pretty beat up.

...and "Holly". Adulthood was not at all kind to her. She looked pretty beat up.

Another childhood fantasy rooooned!

I always wanted to go on a "routine expedition" with Holly. Hell, if "Uncle Jack" could find them, I figured I could too! I dreamed about her letting me ride behind her on Dopey, and going exploring and finding our own cave up in the hills, where that monkeyboy Chaka couldn't find us... getting a couple of those strawberries the size of your head, moving a couple of the crystals around on one of those matrix tables to make it rain, and grabbing those pigtails and making love to her all night by the light of a Pylon!

http://www.landofthelost.com/kathynew.jpg

Supposedly this pic is from '99. I'd still hit it!

Umm...yeah...she didn't turn out like that.

This might just be the number one show from my childhood...well..that and The Bugaloos.

Enik, The leader of the Sleestaks always knew how to get them home, but he'd always mind fuck Rick by allowing him to see his wife back home crying and for some reason looking for the kids in the back yard.

This show definitely "jumped the Dicerotops" when Rick Marshall, due to failed contract negotiations, got sucked thru a time portal and was replaced by his brother Jack, so the theme song wouldnt get TOO fucked up. awful.

And still I watched. This show is the reason that to this day I dont go white water rafting.

I really don't know what audience they are skewing for with this movie. It's not like the show was that huge that people were pining for a remake and Ferrell has kinda reached a saturation point with a large part of his audience. I don't know anyone who wants to see this for what looks like a big production.

Love it.
I really liked this show when I was a little man.
Even at 9 years old, I knew the FX were terrible. I could recreate some of those shots when I'd make movies with my brothers but, I liked the plot of the show. It definitely was an interesting concept. And it had a "can't we all just get along" morality to it. I liked that too.

The Sleestaks were cool as fuck. Always will be.

oh... and it had thee greatest end-credit-theme-song of all time. Period. Lock it down.

I watched a few episodes yesterday as well. Yikes. Pretty bad. And I loved this show?!

HA! The one thing that got me was that the kid who played Will billed himself only as "Wesley" in the credits. Seriously?

And that damn blue screen you'd see from inside their cave. It just looked so terrible.

The best thing about the show was the theme song!

how did they explain the change ??

Dad was fuckin' around with the crystals in one of the pylons while Will and Holly were outside picking novelty-size carrots.
There's a sudden earthquake and it causes some wacky shit to happen in the pylon. It opens a time doorway and Dad -literally- falls into it. We never see him again.
The kids are very upset and frightened. They take that goofy bastard Chaka and start walking towards home. In the distance they "see something fall from the sky". Of course... they approach it, and wouldn't ya know... it's their Uncle Jack.
Uncle Jack states that once he realized that his family was missing, he simply retraced their steps (it was, after all, a routine expedition) and then suddenly.... he was laying there in the land of the lost.

It's a decent enough explanation but, the show really dropped the ball here.
Why?
Because.... in an earlier episode, that bad muthafucka Enik tells the Marshall family that they can't leave because the LOTL is a "closed universe". It's a loop. The only way for the family to leave is if they are replaced with people of the same mass & energy. So... Enik opens the time doorway to the moment that the Marshalls go over the waterfall. It's as if they're watching their own past on a loop. So... the family that WE know does -in fact- go home. They leave. But they are instantly replaced by a "past" version of themselves. And they will now repeat all the same adventures... which they have no memory of because... to THEM, it's the present.

It was all very LOST like. Really cool.

They should've addressed that mass/energy thing again when Jack replaced Will but, instead, they just made it seem like a kooky coincedence.

I am convinced that nobody has ever typed this much about LOTL.

Goodnight.
