I LOVE this store!
They have great food and its inexpensive and healthy and they give out free samples. I have been getting from their frozen section these meals that are portion controlled and I think if I stick with it, I'll lose weight! Anyone else go to this store?

I hear ya. I always go to the Trader Joes on rt 22 in Eastchester. They have the best variety of Tortilla Chips. All in all a great store
O and A... PARTY ROCK!!!!!
Trader Joe's is the best. Inexpensive wine, good food (I'm currently a huge fan of the spinach-tofu egg rolls and I'm not even vegetarian), and the prices aren't bad.

That's the one I go to also. I usually go there when I'm looking for something different, like bison burgers.

i lived off trader joes in the mid-late '90s.
trader joes started on the west coast, where i used to live. besides the weather, one of the other reasons against moving to the east coast was not having trader joes. its good that they are out here now, but they are still too far away from me.

You're sparked my interest in the place. They opened one in Wayne near me, I'll have to go down there one night.

Ugh.
Trader Joe's in Westfield is filled with the most pretentious pompous rich asses driving around in their $50,000 cars and wearing their designer clothes thinking that organic high priced food is better then what us common people get in Shop Rite and Pathmark.
Being in that store fills me with such rage that I want to take a baseball bat to the faces of the people shopping there.

Trader Joe's kicks ass! I love their pre-made pizza dough, the Salmon Jerky (yum!) and all the great munchies. Plus they have great coffee cheap (Their Bay blend puts Starbucks to shame)
I was so happy to learn that when I move to Nassau County from Fairfield, CT, there was a Trader Joes not too far.

I love Trader Joe's, I usually end up shopping there and at Fairway (http://www.fairwaymarket.com/) in Plainview. The food is good, the selections are great and the prices are reasonable.

Their frozen stuff is great (and cheap); I usually have 3 or 4 bowls of their pad thai or chicken tikka sitting in my freezer at any one time. I don't usually get produce there, it's a bit pricey and the Wegmans is nearby.
What's also good is that they have a pretty good beer selection -- between Trader Joe's, Wegmans, Harris Teeter, and of course, Total Beverage, we're pretty well covered down here.

I LOVE the rage, but I'm not sure why you're so upset. Good food is good food, I don'c care about the shoppers. If they're rich or poor, I don't care.
This store sounds like it has good stuff, so I'l go check it's shit out.

Papa Bear - it's a national chain, I believe they have several stores in the DC area.

I don't usually shop Fresh Fields (a.k.a. Wholefoods now); Trader Joe's is smaller & more boutique-y, it's not big enough to be a supermarket -- they mostly sell frozen & packaged stuff (no deli counter, fish counter, etc.)
I would put Wholefoods kind of in with Wegman's & Harris-Teeter; they're upscale supermarkets and they're a lot bigger than Trader Joe's.

I got some Trader Joes Mac & Cheese this weekend and tried it tonight. Holy shit! Its really good and quick. Its frozen and all you have to do is poke a few holes in the cover and nuke it for 6 mins and its done. Its a big size too, so two people could share it, or eat half today and half tomorrow or eat the whole thing if you are a gavone.

I've only been there once while visiting a friend in LA but loved it. We got salmon, brie and wine and had a great girls night.
There are no locations in Texas, however we have this awesome place called Central Market. I think it's pretty comparable but it might be more expensive.
http://www.centralmarket.com/default.aspx
One of the really cool things about this place is that many of their locations have cooking schools attached. They offer classes pretty much every day. My friend and I went for a Louisiana cooking class and had a blast! You get to cook the food and they give you wine and then get to eat the wonderful meal at the end. I highly recommend it if you live in or visit Texas.

I get all my hummus at TJ's (go ahead, somebody fix it for me). It's about half the price at the Stop and Shop or Pathmark and it's better. I'm also a sucker for the chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels!

When we lived in Westchester we always went to the one on Central Ave in Hartsdale. Oh, I miss it. There isn't one anywhere near us now. :( Loved their hummus selection and their produce.
BeerBandit and I did discover a more than adequate replacement, though, when we relocated to Orange County. It's a local store...probably the closest thing left to an actual green-grocers...called Adams Fairacre Farms. All their produce and a lot of their pantry items are all locally grown and produced. Fantastic bakery section and their meat department is very reasonably priced. If anyone is travelling through Newburgh or Poughkeepsie, I'd recommend checking them out. Not as many wonderful free samples as Trader Joe's, though!

Central Market is awesome, but TJ's is WAY cheaper but also more specialty. Everything there is delicious but usually ultra-cheap. I guess what it really is is gourmet store-brand.
Can you get delicious eggplant hummus? Yes. Can you get vanilla/mango soy ice cream? Yes. Can you get old-fashioned blister peanuts? Yes. Can you get swedish Ginger cookies? Yes.
Can you get Hot Pockets? No. Can you get Frosted Flakes? No. Can you get Folger's? No. They do their own thing, and it is a delicious thing.

three years later and i now love the place. don't pay attention to anyone there, just buy the stuff and be on my way. i guess i am a bit more of a hippie now.

only sad part is that only one in nj sells booze. :( i wish i could get their really cheap wine anywhere. it's a good place to go before a flight, stock up on all the dried berries and nuts they have.
their buffalo jerky is also pretty great, good price too.
oh, and in regards to me complaining about the prices, i think they are actually cheaper for a lot of the stuff they sell compared to bigger box stores. out in la you find them everywhere. i wish they had one out here in no where nj.

Having moved from NY, I can safely say that Wegmans destroys any and all supermarket contenders.
However, Trader Joes is pretty good. Good quality, selection is alright for the size of the store, and the prices are good. The one downside is that I have to buy meat in another store. All they stock is organic all natural grass fed vegetarian feed gently massaged killed with a smile animal. The prices for beef and chicken there are too much for me to spend on a regular basis. So I go to another west coast chain called Henrys for that.
