This guy. I watched this show all the time as a kid and never really questioned Shipwreck. But last night while discussing old cartoons with my pal Grim Sanity, my memory got jogged on this guy.
What was his fucking deal??? He was like the ONLY sailor Joe. I think he was one of the only Joes that even had a sea based job too. He always had that cavalier attitude. Cracking wise, making jokes and the like. What was with his accent?
So I ask you posters. What was your opinion of Shipwreck, and do you have any stories that deal with him?
I don't. I just think he was a tool.

Shipwrecks character was cool. His outfit and stupid bird were not.

After my time. Hat's cute though. Wasn't he in the Village People?

Based upon his attitude and persona, he's essentially what'd you'd get if Jack Nicholson was a Joe. So he's cool.
His outfit was pretty gay, but he probably banged all of the Joe chicks to compensate.
You know Cover Girl was gettin' some of that action.

Didn't Shipwreck also get some COBRA genetically engineered Mermaid?
BTW, how did Shipwreck get all the Joe girls? Scarlett was with Snake Eyes, and Lady Jaye was with Flint.

The was also a Coast Guard Joe called "Cutter", probably only on 1 or 2 episodes. Plus there were other Joes that were Navy Seals, I think Beachead was one.
Cobra was the best thing about the show.

Let's not forget Deep Six.

I like this one too because it reminds me of the Opie / French Guy scuba fight on his vacation.

Shipwreck was in possibly the best episode ever of G.I. Joe. The episode we he personally led the charge to destroy Cobra and they disbanded GI Joe becasue Cobra was gone.
However it was a diabolical plot by Cobra to make shipwreck go crazy as all the people were made of wax. Damn that Dr. Mindbender

Damn that Dr. Mindbender
Mindbender was the shit. Destro was cool, Commander was crazy, and Mindbender somehow mixed Dr. Frankenstein with Liberace.

Why a character like Shipwreck was given such a huge amount of time on the show in place of other, better characters, is beyond me. You forced me to recall the episode when he was made to believe he woke up in a coma afrer a decade or so and was led to believe he had a wife and kid. He later saw the talcum powder come off his beard, showing he wasn't as old as he thought he was, and that the whole thing was a vicious plot by Cobra.
The whole thing about his parrot sidekick having more brains and a greater vocabulary than him was also irritating. He started the whole gay undercurrent in GI Joe, along with Mindbender and his shirtless, buff Freddie Mercury physique and S & M outfits, don't get me started on Serpentor and the "man eaten by the snake" get up. In all, the show was pretty bad compared to the comic which was great until it too fell victim to the cartoonish elements.

RECONDO!!!!
I mean he HAD to be tough to have a bad 70's porno mustache like that. Imagine how many times he's been called a flamer and had to kick that guy's ass. Recondo is the baddest!!!

It seems like every other Joe had a huge 70's porno moustache.
Or a gay biker 'stache.
I have nothing else to add, except this cool as fuck picture of Snake-Eyes done by Tim Bradstreet, who does the covers of the Hellblazer comic.

Actually, with the direction that GI Joe later took, Ron and Fez would have made great characters in the series, maybe even introducing the show like Sgt. Slaughter did. You got the Hawaiian shirts off the Chuckles figure (a Jackie the Joke man wannabe if I ever saw one). All you need is the accessories. I'm tempted to visit the vintage toy shop with a hammer and a screwdriver to start making my own. The filecards would be great to make up.

Was she fish top or fish bottom?
