There really is an art to it, and I have yet to master it.

You want it SLIGHTLY burned. I either have no burns or WAY too many, where there's a few black pieces that turn to ashes in your mouth. (Sorry Mustaine)

When done correctly, I'd say about half the bag is slightly browned. So every scoop from the bag delivers that somewhat burned flavor. It's not overpowering, it compliments the whole bag.

Anyone have any opinions on the burned flavor or tips on getting it more regularly?

You have to wait until the pops are three seconds apart. Give it a little leeway and you'll get the perfect blend of popcorn and burt-ness.

Are you sure SatCam? 3 seconds apart sounds like the amount of time I was allowing when it hardly burnt.

I just hit this bag on my lap for 4 minutes flat, and it's slightly over burned.

I mean I KNOW every microwave differs. I was just hoping someone had a "Kernel pop time" hint or just wanted to talk about how fucking awesome properly burned microwave popcorn is.

Does anyone remember the ron and fez show when someone brought in this product popcorn product called almost popped or something along those lines. basically it was a jar or 1/2 popped kernals. Not quite the seeds, not quite fully popped pop corn

no bacon is a wierd one for me. it needs to be cooked more under than over. burnt bacon taste will be in your mouth all day, almost like a bad day on the docks.

Good point.

Burnt popcorn is great, but NOTHING is better than slow fried bacon cooked on the lowest flame your patience will allow.

But my love for bacon shall remain.

We got a new microwave a few weeks ago and last week my 12-year old called me almost in tears because he burnt a bag of popcorn and the kitchen was full of smoke (the old microwave took forever to pop a bag). I could still smell it in the kitchen today.
