Oh boy, will the streets be safe? Will our children be able to sleep at night knowing Martha Stewart, a convicted felon is going to be a free woman?

She should have settled months before the trial, but that was her descision.

I think she was targeted unfairly because she is a strong, successful woman, but thats just me. No sarcasm, that is my honest belief.

Glad she'll be back to making money again.

So are white-collar criminals not deserving of punishment?

There's more to crime than pure physical violence. People lost money they invested in good faith, while Martha Stewart knew she was screwing them financially. Fuck her, he should rot in prison some more.

i don't think she was unjustly targeted. if the FTC were out to get her, they wouldn't have given her three opertunities to settle. The first two chances were wholly civil sanctions, meaning no admission of guilt to anything. It's a rare thing for the Feds to make that kind of deal twice. the third chance was a hefty fine and admission of guilt, but pleaing to 18 USC 1001, in the grand scheme is no big deal.

targeted individuals are railroaded.

Fucking semantics. She obstructed justice because she was on trial for a white-collar crime.

She cheated people out of money.

Fuck Martha Stewart.

no, shw was not on trial for a white collar crime. she was on trial for obstruction of justice because she was being investigated for insider trading. she was never charged with it though.

Now I like to think I hate rich people as much as the next guy (unless, of course, I'm standing next to Doomstone) but I think ol' Martha got hosed on this one. While she probably was guilty of the things she was convicted of, dragging her to trial was the moral equivalent of a cop hiding in a speed trap that lets 50 drunks driving like maniacs go by then pulling over somebody for doing 55 in a 50 mph. zone.

I'm not gonna buy her crap or watch her show, though.

They are deserving of punishment, obviously, but Martha's crime was piddly compared to the goons who use their companies to bilk people out of millions (the popular example being Enron).

I'm just pissed she taking up so much airtime the last few days. EVERY news broadcast, no matter what news channel you turn on, has HUGE segments on this. Do I care? Do any of us really fucking care about this woman and her life? If she fell off the face of the planet tomorrow I wouldn't lose one second of sleep.

She WANTED to go to jail...you don't think she's going to parlay this into MILLIONS of dollars???

Books about her life in prison, tv interviews, boost in MS Omnimedia sales and stock, international fame, tv movie, etc. etc. etc.

This is the best thing that ever happened to her career. You're naieve if you ignore even the possibility that this was all a carefully planned scandal to boost her popularity.

And guess what, it worked. In spades...

Dumbest post ever.

She HAS millions, more than she can spend. Jail and Martha Stewart dont go together. Her image was Miss Domestic Perfection. She's not exactly 50 Cent. This caused her company's stock to plunge (it has since recovered)
Stress like this is also awful for your health, especially at her age. Michael Milken went to jail at a similar age and left with prostate cancer, which I'm sure made bitter people like Doomstone happy.
She'll probably make a comeback, which America typically embraces. She's always made great products, and her sense of taste and style are impeccable. But to claim this was a good career move is mindless.

I'm tending to agree.

If she wanted to go to jail, why is she appealing the conviction?

Because with a conviction on her record she can't be a part of the board of directors of her company, which is what she truly wants.
