Going back to the WNEW days, this was never used as a joke. He has gone from calling this a radio psychic to spy report to your mom's box. I think the pattern says it all.

Thank you Freakshow.
For those of you who don't have XM, O&A have been talking in the last week about adding shows to their channel, but haven't laid any hints as to what shows they may be, other than asking Joe Rogan if he'd be interested in doing something.

We all know that Ron & Fez are the only terrestrial radio show that they like. O&A will be in DC next week for a few days....
Actually, now I remember today they mentioned they had few radio friends, but did mention Ron and Fez, Scott Ferrall and, believe it or not, Sean Hannity, who they had on air yesterday.

It might have been done as a joke, or as a nervous precaution, or some negotiations only the two of them working on coming to fruition - who knows but them - Ron is merciless, but there was no "That will fuck with them!"
Or are you just doing Ron's "That will fuck with them!" dirty work?

He said this around 7:07 this morning as well. Also, they took a call from someone that mentioned "AFRO" and they bbboys went with it. Hmmm.

XM is $12.95 a month as of April 2nd. Depending on where you live there might be taxes, but that might be a buck or less. There are also pre-paid plans where you can get a discount, and you can lock in current rates if you buy before April 2nd.
There is also an activation fee when you initially turn on your radio, which is $14.99 if you do it over the phone or $9.99 if you do it online.

Before that deal they were being dicked around by having to do two shifts and Redskins radio, and right afterwards *poof* they were down to just working at nights (with rerunning fastest hour the next day), Redskins radio moved timeslots andthey added two new markets.
Now they find themselves stuck in the evenings with no way of knowing where their place be when Stern goes to Sirius. With the Junkies wedged into WJFK, there is the very real possibility that D&M and The Junks move timeslots, and R&F stay put. They also are dealing with Terps and Coach Gibbs, and the loss of a market (they took out Tampa themselves).
Big difference between now and then, though, is that the people who brought them in the first place are no longer around, and who knows how willing the new suits are in keeping the Ron and the Fez.
One thing Ron DOES know - this chatter gets people to pay attention and listen to the show; hopefully they can have an even better book when the next one comes out, and really force the best deal with whomever.

Yeah, XM Online and O&A will be free. Playboy Radio is still premium, but I've read that no one listens and its gone the second the contract expires.

A theory (which could be waaaayyy off, but i'm going to put it out there)
Any chance Infinity is thinking about changing it's policy on satellite broadcasting? Many other stations have their programs on the Satelite in addition to their terrestrial broadcasts (for example Tony Kornheiser is about to simulcast on XM, while still doing a 980 show--TK is on Clear Channel, of course and is already streamed over the net legally). Perhaps the loss of Stern has opened their eyes, and they are going to allow their shows to be broadcast of XM.
That way they Would still be under contract to Infinity (no one seems to know when their contract ends), but still able to get on XM as a simulcast.
The XM commericals have made a reappearance on JFK, if that means anything to anyone.
(like I said, a wild theory, so...)

More hinting toward R&F joining XM202, this time from the O&A side...
During today's Opie & Anthony Show, the Pacino "Hoo-ah!" sound was played several times at random. (You know, the sound that is played after you read off you Big ASS Card #). I've never heard O&A use that sound clip, and it's a little weird that they would just start now.

The cool thing for R&F woudl be that they can continue to live in DC and still broadcast from downthere at the XM compound. OR, they can come back to NYC. either way win for them. And I think there is also an XM studio in FLA somewhere. Its like this company was designed around them

Ron's feeding the fires again. Ogre is in the studio doing the "Joliet Jake Challenge", which is to eat 4 fried chickens and a coke (John Belushi's order at Aretha Franklin's diner in "The Blues Brothers"), so there's a Blues Brothers theme going on. However, Ron has been repeatedly using the the "We're getting the band back together" drop from the movie, which is the hint that Opie dropped on O&A the other day. For those not following the speculation in detail, when Opie made the comment, it was largely speculated that R&F (and/or Ferrall) were coming to XM.
True hint or Ron screwing around? Who knows?

Ron is REALLY screwing with us all, no matter if there is a clear cut plan for them. If anyone paid attention, and I don't know how I picked up on this, becuase it was a bit inconspicuous. About an hour ago, 8 ish, when Ron kept dropping the "getting the band back together" clip, and Fezzie mimicked it, and said something to the effect of (maybe it wasn't Fez) "Yeah, I know, people here are talkin about it" (not verbatim for sure) and then Ron laughed sardonically, saying "yeah...haha..EVERYBODY's talkin about it...." He definitely alluded to the fact that the buzz was in the air, and that he found it amusing.
Perhaps I'm reading more into it because I have a vested interest, but I dunno, sounded pretty dead on to me. I guess you'll all have to listen to the playback.
This is getting so ridiculously over the top that I'm convinced they're just fucking with us now.

Shaddup.
The main thing that makes me think that this isn't some kind of "last show" is that they didn't try to make it a last show. Yeah, I know a bunch of people were there. but they usually are on Fridays. R&F seem very big on getting to do last shows and saying goodbye. What could the circumstances be that they wouldn't know whether or not they'd be back on Monday?

Maybe the reason for no goobye show is that their departure is going to be a surprise to WJFK? And seriously, do you think WJFK has showed them any respect throughout the last 2 years? Come on, "The Boys" are gonna be in town this week, maybe Super Agent Bob Eatman will be there too. WJFK stinks on ice, I hope they go out in a blaze of glory.

It doesn't really have anything to do with the station they're at...WNEW treated them like shit, too...R&F just like to be able to say their goodbye's to the fans.
And when have they ever been the type of guys to walk on a contract? Or "sneak out?" No way.

It was in no way a last show, nor did it sound like one. A few people have said this, and I'll repeat it,becuase no one seems to think that it's an important fact: No one here knows anything about their departure from that crap station, and will never be able to say where they're going or what they're doing until we learn when their "CONTRACT" expires. Sure, they can get let go, but they'd be in the same boat as O&A were for the two years, not allowed to do another show till the contract was done.
So at the very least, we "might" know that their contract ends at about June, OR that they'll still be with infinity, but in another market. That's the only thing we can be even remotely aware of, not even surely know though. Don't get me wrong, I love all the speculation as much as the next guy, but we're all jumping the gun a bit here.
So come Monday, sit back, relax and enjoy the show with whatever your preferred media may be.

The only thing that felt "final" about Fridays show was at the very end when Ron said "And...hey...if we're here on Monday, then we'll see ya on Monday" or something like that.
Personally, I don't buy into any hysteria. I prefer to wait until I hear something definitive from the people involved.

R & F going to XM may give me a reason to get it. Although I am hoping there will be some kind of merger between XM and Sirius so I can have my cake and eat it too so to speak.

Big Thanx to Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon kissing Drew Barrymore -- on the field, on live TV -- right after the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years. In fact, they were shown in a closeup within 60 seconds of the final out. And every Red Sox fan is determined to pretend that this never happened, and that it didn't taint the moment even a little bit ... so it wasn't a huge deal.</center>

Keep in mind that as far as contracts go, alot of the folks at Inifnity that kept O&A off the air for two years (mostly Stern allies) are now gone. Infinity could have easily let O&A out of their contract, but refused to because they would have been put up against Howard in mornings in NYC.
These days, Joel Hollander is running the show at Infinity and he is a big O&A supporter who Opie said is even trying to get something going for them to replace Hoo-hoo in some markets. I wouldn't be surprised if Hollander would allow some kind of deal to be struck with Ron and Fez since he's friends with the O&A gang.

I can't wait to see what happens.
So does anyone know about R&F's contract? They don't make a big deal about that kind of stuff, but I'm sure someone must know if they are at the end of one or in the middle of a long contract and all this speculation is unwarranted at this time.
If R&F leave WJFK (along with The Hideout) I don't think I'd have any reason to listen.

It comes from the O&A show, but it was originally said by physcho mark. he was in trouble (i think sex for sam when he let that couple have sex on the boss' couch). anyway they asked him any last words, and hey replied "your moms box" it has been said every since then for anyone who was about to get fired or leave

There's actually speculation over at The Hideout's website that when Ron said "Your Mom's Box" last week it was actually a reference for Dubs and his status. The entire show there were hints about this and that - those audio clips can be found over there to maybe prove this point.

But it wouldn't make sense unless someone on the Hideout said "You Mom's Box" the bit is to make people on the way out say it:
Ron B to Paul O: "No more reviews outta you. Tonight is the last night. Yell 'Your Mom's Box' and get outta here"
Paul O: "My what?"
Ron: "You're an idiot."
Paul O: "My Mom's Box?"

[quote]what happened to dubs at the end of fridays show...I thought it was weird that brian was doing the clementine voice...does anyone know what the reason was for that?
Dubs was in studio and running the board - I don't think it was planned. Annie showed up, and they had her and Puck in at the same time and took an opportunity. Actually, last week both Ron and Fez took cracks at doing the Clem voice, with not much in from Dubs.
thank God..another mystery solved oh so quickly...we wouldn't want anyone to wonder for too long would we?...at least we have someone in the know who is willing to share every last piece of inside info he may have on the show at all times.
[b]I just don't get it...if you know something or think you know something...JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!!![b]we wouldn't want anyone to keep listening to the radio or checking the boards to find out more info...nah doesn't make any sense...unless you are more concerned with your own ego than anything else

Someone asked a question and he answered it. What's the big deal, Billy? If Ron didn't want KOP giving out info, he wouldn't let him in the studio.

Ron and fez are going to XM face facts. It's not a coincidence opie said we are getting the band back together on their show then ron says it. Just be happy for ron and fez they will be heard nationally and in afternoon drive. More then wjfk or infinity for that matter will ever give them. Think of all the possibilities. The cross promotions on both shows and dare i say it A.F.R.O. shows. For those who weren't privledged enough to hear an A.F.R.O. show it is when Anthony, Fez, Ron, & Opie all do the show together. Greatest radio i ever heard. Can't wait for them to make the jump. Been waiting for their come back to New York since they were robbed from us by infinity.

To play devil's advocate here, what hasn't been considered yet is that Ron reads this board, so he definitely knows how to rile us up and how to keep us going.
Ron just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that could give a shit about riling us up. He has always been the anti-gimmick guy.

7:43 PM Ok, who didn't just hear that ? Ron really is pushin' it now ! They did a commercial for the Pontiac G6, and part of it was saying that it comes equipt with XM Satellite Radio, to which Ron says something like "Wow Fez ! That's great ! There are so many new great shows coming to XM soon !" Then he giggled like you knew he would. That's not what he said word for word, actually, his words were a lot more hint ish and convincing.

Do you think that R&F would go on satellite after making fun of it so much after Stern announced his departure? They referred to it as "narrowcast" as opposed to broadcast - an apt term indeed.
You have to admit, it would reduce the calls to the show quite a bit. Only truckers and shut-ins would phone in, and that would bring the show to a grinding halt, to say the least.
Sure, you'd get the die-hard fans who are willing to pay to call in every now and then, but after a while even that would get old.
The show relies on everyday ham & eggers to call in - it is a talk show after all - and you virtually get rid of them once you start narrow-casting. Even O&A aren't as entertaining on XM as they were on WNEW - you lose the local flavor, and as much as I hate commercial breaks, I think you actually need them to let the talent catch their breath every now and then, as well as to adjust the show in case it moves in a different direction than intended.
Sure, the best scenario would be a combination of the two - and I for one would be glad if they came back here to Florida. They still have quite a fan base here: the Ron & Ron live gigs drew thousands each time they had one.
When they were in Daytona Ron & Fez even did comedy shows together at a local club - ahhh, those were the good old days...
Ironically, there's an opening in Orlando for the 7:00-11:00 pm slot on a local Clear Channel station. Their old producer Tuddle was on it - but the show was cancelled for lack of ratings. (Frankly, it was painful to listen to, and was nothing more than Teen Talk with a game show thrown in every few minutes.)
Although a morning show would be preferred (this is the time slot they really shine in) - especially after Stern leaves the broadcast airwaves - they would have to compete with their old buddies The Monsters on a different station, and I don't think they'd want to do that (although I'm sure R&F would beat them handily in the ratings).
In parting I leave you with a quote Ron wrote me as I wished him well before his departure to NY back in 2000:
"Thanx man ...Fez and I still have some things we wanna try.....the plan is to move back to Fla as soon as we get this thing set up
ronnie b"
Of course, it's been over five years since then, and plans change. I'm sure they'd rather be back on in the #1 market in the country (NYC), but I'd like to think FL is their second choice if they had their druthers.
And as far as LA is concerned, that place is a vapid cultural wasteland. R&F are East Coasters and the show and the callers work much better out here. Californians wouldn't get it and frankly, they don't deserve it.
Anyhoo.....speculate away my buddies.....as long as we can hear them above, on, or under the ground I think we'll be all right.

I'm just saying if they were simulcast from a station in a larger market such as NYC or FL the show would be that much better. They have a longer history in those areas and let's face it - a bigger fan base.
But by going to just satellite, I think the show will suffer. Then again, the boys are clever and I'm sure they'd be able to adapt well.
Heck, they transformed a basic call-in show about web sites when they first went to NY to a hip show with characters who actually made you laugh.
"Compelling rhetoric" indeed.

People, please think logically. For a second. Please.
If O&A are on for 7-11, and Ron and Fez stay at JFK and simulcast, they would not be on from 3-7.
If anything, the O&A bump to 7-11 am makes it that much easier for Ron and Fez to slide into a simulcast 7-11 pm spot. No musical/variety hour, just two replays of O&A (which covers AM drive on the West Coast and PM drive on the east) and then Ron and Fez live (which would then cover the drive time slot on the west coast)
I'm not entirely sure if R&F would replay. None of the other simulcast material on XM replays, I think. But I don't listen to the talk channel on the weekends. Can anyone help me out here?
It would be interesting to see what kind of interaction would be between the two shows. Watching Don O'Meara's head cave in like his dog's chest after hearing O&A's voices on his station's airwaves... priceless.

Just because you keep reporting over and over again that R&F might be simulcasting from WJFK to XM, doesn't mean its going to happen. You keep chiming in as a broken record not to forget that R&F could be on XM while still on WJFK. However, the fact is that of R&F do go to XM, they might not be on Infinity at all, in which case, your whole "People, please think logically" speech is moot.

I keep forgetting that I'm not posting on wackbag and people have ideas here that actually make sense.
I swear to god - I've posted like a broken record about this possibility and there's at least 2-3 posts a day on Wackbag of people saying, "Hey! What about Ron and Fez simulcasting?"
I could take my original tack and tell people to use the search engine and see that I talked about a 1 year deal and jumping on O&A when they went to satellite. :P
But people kept yelling at me that it was a three year deal, not a one year deal.
Like I said, I don't know what the contract states, I don't know anything. I don't know if Ron and Fez would do PM drive or not, just because it seems like it would affect O&A's replay value, but then, having original shows in AM and PM make sense.
Look, I don't program radio stations. I just promote 'em. My brain runs a mile a minute.

And for what it's worth Mikey, I try not to speak in absolutes when I speculate. I always try to use terms like "IF".
Ah, there is an "if" in there. Sorry, then. My post was half motivated because it looked as if you were presenting simulcast as the way it was going to be (that was the only option you discussed) and half because the tone you've taken in this thread in some of your posts has annoyed the piss out of me.

What "IF" their was a stipulation in their last contract that included syndication? When the El Sol thing happened that may have opened a door for them to get out of their contract. Whatever is going to happen is gonna happen soon. Opie said that the changes were coming whenthey get back from vacation which is, I think, around April 1.

did you guys hear Opie "hinting" this morning?
He mentioned a bunch of changes coming up (Next week starts the 7-11 time shift, they will be doing a live hosted best of hour before they start the show {They will be there live, intro best of segments, meaning REALLY good worst of, for an hour while they prepare for the show} April 2 begins their time off the premium channel and that's the date they want all techincal problems solved, yeah right)
Opie then mentioned new shows and "getting the back back together", Anthony asked if they could make an announcement, Opie said they couldn't and that he was just talking to "a couple of the members" or something like that. Then Anthony threw out a "HooWah!". Opie said "whaaa?"
If Ron's fucking with us, he got Opie to help out...

Ah, there is an "if" in there. Sorry, then. My post was half motivated because it looked as if you were presenting simulcast as the way it was going to be (that was the only option you discussed) and half because the tone you've taken in this thread in some of your posts has annoyed the piss out of me.
The reason why I've been so adamant about a simulcast is that I've had a bunch of people who actually work in the industry or have ties in the industry tell me that Ron and Fez signed a three year deal.
I should preface this by saying that they have no ties to Ron and Fez, and when pressed, they could not show me where exactly it said Ron and Fez got a three year deal. I took them at their word because 1) they work in radio and 2) I know them.
Now, considering how Infinity held O&A to their contract, I couldn't just see Ron and Fez walking away with two years left to go to satellite.
That is, of course, if they signed a three year deal.
If they signed a one-year deal, I could possibly see them going to satellite only. But I don't know how Radio contracts work.
I just find it odd that a night time show (not an AM or PM drive show) would get such a long-term contract. Now, of course, for DC being such a big market, perhaps the contract structure works differently.
Contracts that I've seen usually go on a year-to-year basis... especially for night-time talent.
Perhaps there's an "out" clause when Ron and Fez lost some of their syndicated stations.
Perhaps there's "out" clauses that have to do with other things that we don't know about.
I don't know, because I don't know Ron and Fez's deal. I just know, from reading the boards and hearing comments, that it just doesn't make total sense to me for R&F to go completely to satellite.
(disclaimer - I'm using "I don't know" and "if" a lot in this post... again, I'm not using absolutes, and just look at me as a third person making observations)
A lot of things are variables we just don't know about. Personal lives. Contracts. Etc.

todays daily hint from the O and A show.
they were doing a bit playing audio from morning shows on regular radio as a audition to see who could be on their channel, one caller calls up and plays audio of a show called Dan and dan but then you hear ron and fez as that show. Anthony goes those guys have some chemistry at then end of the bit they were trashing all the shows and Anthony goes i kind of liked dan and dan i think theyll get a call back and are in the running

Because to be honest with you, I don't think I'd even do it. Listening to these shows after the fact is just lame as shit.
O&A and R&F were great shows because of the LIVE INTERACTION. I tried the whole listen later download thing and it was just stupid.
So I wouldn't care about O&A because I'm not up super early, and if I had to sit around my comp at night for Ron and Fez, I probably would opt out of that too.
I liked these shows when there were on LIVE FREE RADIO. Now it's just too big an inconvenience to hear them. And that sucks to say about 2 shows I love, but it's the truth now.

I dont think the actual EXPENSE is what bothers people.
I think it's the fact that, suddenly, they have to pay for something that used to be free.
The argument is basically:
"I love The Apprentice. I never miss an episode. It's my favorite show. BUT....if I suddenly had to subscribe to a special channel on a special TV to get it, I guess I would stop watching."
YES, that show is only an hour (as opposed to a four hour RnF broadcast) but the principle is the same.
PLUS...if you miss a day or two, you suddenly feel like "what the hell am I paying for?"
FINALLY, Ron & Fez don't do the kind of show that needs to be censored (thank god. I f'cking HATE titty radio) so, the show will, most likely, be identical to what it is now...except it will be at a price.
Of course, there will be underground streams and all that but, I, for one, will be supporting The Buddays. I will pay my 200 bucks per year or whatever the hell it costs and proudly let my Fez flag fly.

The show would be different. No commercials (other than for XM channels) and very short breaks. And even if they never use profanity, they won't need to worry about the slightest slip in describing mundane things resulting in massive fines for the station.

1st of all, shut the fuck up Tenbatsuzen. I'm not stealing anything. I could, easily, if I wanted to. I joked about all that a few months ago, and you had the same line. Your one note song got old long ago. And the fee is a deterrent, not impossible to come up with. I listed a few different things that would keep me from wanting the service, and you drag out your old bullshit. Keep it.
Fezident added a very good point as well:
I dont think the actual EXPENSE is what bothers people. think it's the fact that, suddenly, they have to pay for something that used to be free.
Then John said:
You can get a satellite setup for $50. It can then be moved between home and car, and starting 4/2, it will include the online feed as well.
Yea? Well I can get a radio for 10 bucks and I don't have to pay a monthly fee. And I'd like to see a link to this 50 dollar car to home satellite receiver. Did you forget to mention that the monthly fee is going UP too?
Then some obvious genius who is my pick for poster of the year and I've never even fucking heard of said:
All it takes is 1 trip to the store and some money. Im a poor college student and i pay for it easy. I mean if your not a music lover than i get not getting xm but otherwise i think the complaining is either ignorance or people being stubburn.
Well you have your priorities and I have mine. It's not ignorance, it's choice. Don't judge me because I won't set aside money each month for radio. You speak of satellite like if you don't have it you're a drooling mouth breather. And I am a lover of music, personally. That is why I have an iPod, and before that I carried around CDs, before that tapes. Why wait for ANY radio station, satellite or otherwise to play music you want to hear? I get it and play it when I want. Instead of the satellite, I'll use the money to buy music. Is that ignorant? Get bent. You can use that argument with the talk aspect, but don't bother with the music aspect.
Anyone else?

Why listen, you own the album.
Ever since I got XM in September, I have been turned on to so much music that I had never heard of or new stuff by artists I had heard of but rarely listened to. I bought XM just for O&A, and I thought once they came back on air I'd spend zero time on any other station but theirs. That's not the case; I am shocked by how much I enjoy their music stations. They have such huge playlists and I hear so much shit I'd never hear otherwise.
I do listen to my iPod more than Xm, but my Ipod has filled up a lot over the past few months solely because of XM.
Of course, they just got rid of one of their metal stations, so I'm sure that'd be a negative for Moe.
Anyway, spend your money how you like. But I only bought XM for O&A, was kinda pissed that I had to pay to hear them but willing to pay even though I thought it wouldn't be worth it to pay for radio. I feel the opposite now; I think it's more than worth it.
And that's the end of my sales pitch. Check's in the mail baby!

I didn't even quote your message when I was talking about people stealing XM. I only asked if 8 bucks was hard to pay for.
Your allegiance to Steels is quite well known, however, and Steels has made it quite clear that he would do whatever it took to make O&A and R&F "available to the masses".

Not really. I've had the Roady2 (which is XM's low-end receiver) for about 7 months now, and there's nothing really out there that's better than it on the low-end.
It's basically Roady2 (low-end), Skyfi2 (mid-level), MyFi (high-end).

Ha...Just did a "Yer listening to the Dan and Dan show" followed by Red State update.... Anyway, there's no way one can say that xm is lowering their prices. If anything, they're leveling them out. However, I think that they should give people the option as to whether or not they want the online service, which is now what the real charge is coming from... They say it's free, but it's really not if you think about it.
If "premium" channels are no longer being considered a premium, and they know that they'll be getting more subs because of adding those channels to the regular line up, they're not only cashing in on the amount of new subs, but by not giving people a choice about getting the internet stream, the deadlock into the price is a hike, not a real gift so to speak. Pretty weak marketing bs if you asked me.

It took a guy with 13 posts to clearly explain the rate structure of XM and to cut through the Radio Elitist bullshit.
Thank you alphamale. So the truth is, some people, like my friend, see a hike while others who chose to subscribe to one or more premium channels will see a decrease.
I don't know. I guess it's a plus for everyone but the people who were content with the basic package, which I'd guess is a large portion of people. Its saying "Here, pay for this even if you don't use it! It's free!" No it's not. I'd be pissed because I have 56K and most online streams are useless to me. Except the one I get from my friend Steels who I show my allegiance to by simply agreeing with him on certian topics. But that's neither here nor there.

The show would be different. No commercials
Yeah, but how long will that last? Can subscription fees and "activation fees" (what a rip-off) alone pay for the talent & infrastructure? It sounds eerily how cable TV was in the early days: no commercials and low rates that eventually gave way to ever-escalating fees, extended commercial breaks and buyouts by the major networks.
How long before the prices go up again? There already have been rumors about an XM & Sirius merger. And who's to say that down the road they don't get bought out by Clear Channel or Infinity? Then they'd be employed by the same a-holes that drove them to this medium in the first place.
And then you find yourself right back in the censorship game, with the conglomerates' moral values guiding company policy and program content.
Do we want to support this slippery slide toward monopolization by subscribing to these services? Would a boycott do any good? Or is this just inevitable?
Bottom line - we will have to pay for who we want to listen to or watch. The buddies are worth it.

Re: XM and Clear Channel... from Orbitcast, the originator of the rumor...
Y'know, this story just stinks of bullshit. The more and more I hear on it, the less and less likely anyone thinks it'll happen. It has even less credibility than the XM and SIRIUS merger. Sorry if anyone soiled themself over it..
So disregard those rumors. It's not happening. Neither is a Sirius/XM Merger, because of two reasons...
1) One company cannot hold both satellite licenses issued by the FCC. It would create a monopoly. The FCC has only issued two satellite licenses and won't issue any more for the foreseeable future.
2) Both companies are losing money hand over fist, (Sirius, leaps and bounds over XM however) and it wouldn't make sense to merge both of them, just to continue to lose money.
Secondly, the amount of capital needed to buy the companies right now would be insane. Not only are you buying the studios and technology and everything, but you're also buying the satellites, repeater network, etc. It ain't cheap.
Now, to fully explain how the XM rates are actually SAVING me money...
I currently pay 17 dollars for XM ($10), O&A ($2), and online streaming ($4).
I am prepaying for a year to lock my rate in at 10 dollars. (Which is 10 dollars including O&A and streaming)
Even if I didn't do that, my rate for all of the services above is $13.
I'm not sure how many O&A fans stream, but I don't think most of them would mind paying a dollar more over what they are paying now to get the stream.
Exit 60...

Are you referring to Ron and Fez or O&A? I can assure you that the "assholes who drove them to this medium" (O&A) are no longer working at Infinity. John Sykes, Mel Karmazin, Steve Rivers... all gone.
All these Nelly Naysayers talk about this slippery slope into more and more money issues. I'm sick of people talking about the negative aspects of satellite radio and refuse to focus on the positives. It seems that Hbox and I are the only ones who really want to spread the POSITIVE word about satellite radio, and it seems that all the people who talk shit about it don't even have it in the first place and therefore have no right to talk about fees and raising prices and everything else.
Just because a major company may limit what's said on Broadcast TV doesn't mean they limit what's on cable/pay. Time-Warner censored the hell out of WCW wrestling, but at the same time, were responsible for one of the greatest and dirties shows on television - The Sopranos.
Boondock Saint -
Major League Baseball was never premium to begin with. The only premium channels were Playboy and High Voltage.

No right? Bullshit. If someone knows the facts they can talk about (and even criticise). Don't act like only satellite subscribers can speak with any authority.
A while back, curtoid compared satellite subscribers to TiVo subscribers -- these devices/services have made such a difference in the lives of the people who use them that they feel compelled to convince others to try them out. Such is their commitment, that these people often judge others' informed choices not to select said services as "wrong" and they will go to even greater lengths to prove to those people the errors of their ways. I'm guilty of this with TiVo, as I have now had to stop myself from explaining the virtue of that service to anyone who will listen. The problem is that it gets annoying and obnoxious after a while. I'm not singling out Tenbaysuzen, even though it sounds like I am. Most people will go to satellite eventually. Some will not. I, personally am not currently a satellite subscriber. I eventually plan to be one, but it is not in my immediate plans unless R&F end up there. I'm very informed on the pricing plans, technology, content, and I've made my decision. I'm just sick of the hard sell.

I for one would love to have Ron and Fez on XM.
It's been great hearing O&A uncensored from all

I just checked out the XM site because IF our Buddays make the move, I wanna be right there when they launch the new show.
AAAaaaanyway....I unfortunately noticed that XM subs are not available here in Canada. Bad news for me.
Yes...I already listen every day because I have a reeeally long antennae and lots of tin foil but, still....it kinda sucks that I am ready & willing but UNABLE to subscribe to an XM show that I am passionate about.
This happened with my iTunes account when I moved from NYC to Toronto. I had to forfeit (sp?) my account. We only recently got iTunes-Canada up here.

xm is a blast. i admit i am mostly hooked on the norton and friends show (o & a), but xm has great music and a variety of stations to choose from. the sound quality is so perfect (on all but 202, sometimes, and that is mostly equipment trouble) you can not tell if you are listening to live or replay.
i am not happy with an price hike but if brings ron and fez aboard, great. xm is one of the few things i feel is priced fairly. if you travel then there is no more channel hunting or search aggrivation.

My problem with XM is I'll get so little return on the cash...
Look, I know they have a "great" music selection. Mine's better. I'm a complete music nerd, and most of the "new bands" I see on their playlists I've been listening to for months, so listening to their music stations holds about as much appeal as listening to commercial radio.
Sports on the radio? No thanks, gramps.
All I'd want to hear is R&F. O&A would be a nice bonus, but suddenly having to pay for basically the ONLY thing on ANY kind of radio I want to hear would really, REALLY blow.
