<font face="Times New Roman"><p><font size="3">You make a lot of sense there Mr.</font></p><p><font size="3">I have a question, that I haven't seen brought up in this thread. When you go to the Ronfez.net home page and watch the flash animation of the "Ronfather", both the XM rep and the little doggie company guy are in the same room, trying to get R&F to sign up with them. I only heard one gunshot, which implies (in my little pea brain) that only one company's rep was killed, and then the Ronfather says "Now only we know which path is better for us". Lastly, right before the gunshot, the assassin (who I believe is Fez) is looking at the Sirius guy. If I were to speculate, it would seem to me that R&F are determined to go to XM and would like to simulcast to some terrestrial stations (this opinion is based on hearing Ron's rant a week or so ago).I think (or maybe, more accurately hope) they plan to join O&A on the High Voltage channel. I am biased because I bought XM for O&A, and I think the new show is great. However, I feel that the channel needs to be expanded to more than just O&A and I think R&F would be a great addition.</font> </p><p><font size="3">Just thought I'd throw it out there.</font></p></font>

<hr width="100%" size="2" /><p> </p><p> </p><p>It won't really affect
the show that much, you're right. I think it'd be nice not to have long
commercial breaks and stuff, but R&F don't really push the envelope
of what can be said content or language wise the way O&A do. I
don't think the show itslelf would change much on sattelite.</p><p> But
who they follow is relevant. If it wasn't, R&F would still be in
New York. It wouldn't have matteed that O&A were off the air, and
everyone would still tune in for R&F. Unfortunately it doesn't work
that way, particuarly not in the mid-day and night radio shifts. Drive
time can probably stand on its own more easily.</p><p>
I don't see
what's wrong with talking about it, presonally. Clearly this has been
taken as trolling, but I'm not really sure why. It's something R&F
must surely be considering. There seems to be little doubt that at the
very least O&A have offered them a slot on High Voltage. It may be
an elaborate bluff to get a better deal from Infity though. You never
know. O&A got the syndication deal after talking to clear channel
and threatening to leave. Sometimes you have to play hardball. <br />

I wonder why you comments have been taken as trolling ... hmmm ... oh I
don't know maybe your comments about Don and Mike fans being dragged
over broken glass? Yes, the show that Ron and Fez follow is
relevant, especially for those who yearn for the AFRO days, but the
points you were making weren't. Don and Mike's supposed hatred of
eachother or Freda's
whiny voice has nothing to do
with Ron and Fez's potential move to satellite ... neither does
O&A's obsession with hack comics or Ben's hog for that matter. <p> </p>

I am a longtime
donandmike fan (1992 or earlier) and ronandfez is the best part of my
day (yeah, pathetic, I know). I also liked oanda and wish they
were in radio again (okay, that's trolling, I know they're on the pay
service). I also like the [Sports] Junkies, Loveline, Rush
Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michael Graham, NPR, C-Span Radio, and whatever
they're calling Art Bell's old show now. I do not like Howard or
O'Reilly. I used to like Imus, but when the local affiliate
started cutting off his show for Laura (Sean Hannity tells a story
about her that makes her sound like a psycho stalker) Ingraham I lost
interest. Plus I don't think alcoholics who pee in phone booths
should have CCW in New York, no matter how well connected they are.<p> </p><p> All
that to say, I believe I cover the waterfront in my listening
habits. I will say, as a longtime dandm listener, that Opie
crushed Don on that ill-fated day that Don call OandA. It would
only have been more cringe-y if it involved a wig. But so
what? OandA don't affect RonandFez. DonandMike don't affect
RonandFez. Apparently only male secretaries affect
RonandFez. Posts about how OandA used to help RandF and how DandM
hurt them aren't helpful or elucidative.</p><p>Sorry to be so
longwinded, but I just got home from an evening with a friend who is
well plugged in to the airport parking and tupperware industries and
his stripper chick; we logged some serious time with the SkyDiver
loaded with Courvoisier in honor of 420.<br />

<p>Come on, folks. This has more to do with R&F, and less to do with what <em>other</em> show you people like. As Curtoid pointed out, D&M vs. O&A is a dead horse. There are R&F fans who like O&A, and there are R&F fans who like D&M. Try to show some respect for people who don't have the same taste as you. (And no, people who do not agree with you are not <em>wrong</em>). That is all.</p><p>And Spoon, I thought you weren't going to read this thread.</p>

It was to make derisive comments about D&M. Why? Now
that is something you have to answer. My suspicion is that you,
in your own pathetic way, are trying to "spread the virus". What
convinced me of this was your repetition of D&M criticisms first
made on the O&A show ("they hate each other") along with use of

people). Oh and where else do you hear "wocka wocka" used

<p> By the way, when have you ever heard this type of humor being appreciated by <br />
Ron and

your comments would be appreciated much more on Wackbag. I<br />

whole section dedicated to the death of Don's dead dog Rudy.<br />

feeble attempts

D&M, and
R&F are all successful shows. They all make me laugh. I
think it's<br />
stupid and makes
for bad radio when D&M fume about the "skateboarders" and<br />
O&A rant
about Don's bad breath. I have great respect for R&F for
staying out of<br />
it all.<br />

<p>Curtoid--thanks for trying to get this thread back on track. </p><p>About last night....When Big O called in didn't he seem overly apologetic as if he had been "instructed" almost not to discuss R&F and the XM rumor by his agent or just through common sense. Maybe they found out something through the agent they share with R&F and accidentially said too much on their show. Maybe they have a REAL good idea about what's going on with R&F's future and he wanted to call Ron and apologize as if to say "dude, we didn't give away your big secret, even though we know your secret and could leak the info whenever we wanted". </p><p>I know the R&F to XM is a not exaclty a little-known rumor and that everyone and their mothers has heard about it, but it just seemed like Big O knew for sure what was going to happen. Maybe it was his tone of voice or apologetic tone or whatever.... but if those 2 clowns know something then the Junks and O&A deff know whats going on.</p>

<p>And another thing...</p><p>Don't you kinda cringe when somebody who obviously doesn't visit the board or listen as closely as we do (for better or worse) calls into the show and just blurts out "HEY RON AND FEZ, I HEARD TODAY THAT YOU'RE GOING TO XM?". Thats happened a handful of times over the past month or 2. I cringe everytime. It's like the giant elephant in the room that you're just supposed to ignore and pretend doesn't exist when you call in and interact with R&F. Our buddays always to a good job of avoiding/playing off the question and make a joke about it or something to keep the show rolling but it deffinately makes me feel uncomfortable for a few seconds. <p><a href="http://www.ronfez.net/mediastorage/mikey/RF042105.zip" target="_self">Here's some audio from last night's show that curtoid touched on</a>. </p><p>In a nutshell: First they got a call from a feamle listener who said that she heard on the Big O and Dukes show (the midday show on Live 105.7 in Baltimore) that R&F would be on XM within a month. R&F joked that of course any big announcement about their careers would go through the Big O and Dukes show. Then they talked about the Big O and Dukes show for a bit.</p><p>(after that there are about 20 minutes of the show that don't have much relevance here, so I edited them out)</p><p>Then Big O called and explained that he had been called by Infinity program directors for making the statement, but denied making such a statement. (FWIW, a letter to the DCRTV mailbag says basically the same thing that the female caller said). R&F then talked about WJFK management and their agent (who is also the agent for Big O and Dukes).</p>

<p>quote: </p>* And according to a remote producer who listened closer than I did last night, a woman called up about Big O & Dukes in Baltimore supposedly saying that it was a lock that R&F were going to be at XM - Big O then called in and name dropped (first) this board, and then the fact that they now share the same agent as R&F - and The Junkies. He claimed that they never said the thing about R&F going to XM (a DCRTV rumor?), but he did mention it with them, and I believe even made mention of O&A. <br />* I think Ron mentioned a meeting/lunch with the bosses in the next week <p> </p><p>Big O mention that the woman caller prompted several program managers to call him, including Camereon.</p><p>Ron said the meeting was at <strong>4:28</strong>(to which Fez chuckled), now, do you guys know anyone to schedule a meeting/meal at X:28 or X:58? <br />
I don't think
the agent thing has alot to do with it. I think O&A were likely
courting R&F for XM. They mentioned making room for another
show on High Voltage, and the "getting the band back together" thing.
O&A are probably directly involved <p> </p><p>Now, that
said, R&F aren't going to make any big decisions without
negotiating. Just because they might be in talks to jump ship to XM
doesn't mean they won't stay put if they get offered a good deal
(probably syndication or a better time slot). So I think it's probably
up in the air. But these rumors aren't coming from no where.<br />

radio service is not so expensive. The hardware is dirt cheap now. I
think it's well worth it. I made the jump for O&A. Would have done
the same for R&F. But I'm really liking alot of the other stuff XM

That would actually be a nice vacation for the guys!</p><p>anyway April 28th is the last thursday in April. Depending on the contract, this may be the last day then can broadcast. </p>

I know I'm being lazy & I'm sure it's somewhere in this thread, but does anyone know if they actually have a no-compete clause in their contracts? Or is that just more speculation? And is it 6 months? I think O&A's no-compete clause with Infinity was 4 months...not that that really means anything in this case.

<hr width="100%" size="2" />It was pretty ugly. So much so
that they removed it from the replays and replaced it with a Tommy
Chong interview. It stemmed from Norton complaining about Shawn Rouse
getting blown off mid-show earlier in the week and degraded into Opie
yelling about how hard his job is compared to Norton who just shows up,
and then railing on Norton for being "too negative". It changed topics
a bunch of times. It was clearly something that had been simmering for
some time. <p> </p><p> Luckily Jay Mohr swooped in and diffused the
situation. It should be cool, but it was painful to hear. Worse the Ron
or Fezzie's recent erruptions. <br />

with Infinity was 4 months...not that that really means anything in
this case. <br />Nothing at all is known about that - we don't even really know when their contract is up. <strong>We believe</strong>,
based on DCRTV last year, that they re-signed with Infinity around
May/June 2004. If it was only for one year, it would be coming up for
renewal now - which would tie in with all of the rabid speculation
going on now. They have mentioned their agent is in town (meeting with
them, Big O & Dukes, and we can assume his other clients, The
Junkies, whose own contract expires ini October). <p> </p><p>D&M have
talked about R&F getting dicked over (as well as the Junkies) and
have asked the management to do by right by Ron and Fez and sign them
up...elsewhere, though, there is an indication (The Hideout?) that they
are being held against their will.</p><p>This could all mean that
R&F are having to face the possibility of either staying with WJKF,
or having to wait out their no-compete clause (and 4-6 months of no
money) before they can resign with anyone in Washington, or XM.
They may really be in a no win situation right now, unless there is
another market, like Vegas or LA (Hmmmm...lots of Doors music, eh?)
that expresses interest, and pushes up R&F's market value. </p><p>Bottom
line is they may not be able to financially leave WJFK - no other
terestrial market may pay as much, and they may not be able to afford
to sit out half a year - if this were the case - which, of course, we
just don't know.</p><p>We just don't know...</p><p>IF THEY DO re-sign
with Infinity & WJFK, I hope like hell it's a multi-year deal, just
so that they don't have to go through what we can only assume to be an
absolute nightmare.</p><p> </p>

So if everyone who leaves one radio contract for another has to go thru the six month thingy, how come Howard doesnt have to do that? He has said as soon as his contract is up, he will be on sat. right away
Put on your shit kickers and kick some shit
<p> Last night Fez made mention of doing the 5k race again this
year - it was VERY brief, and (in fact) he was cut off and derailed and
never got back around to it. Fron the tone of it, it sounds like
he is going to do it again this year. From what I remember, it's a
walk/run race in Fairfax County, and it is in Mid June. I know
Perrynoid and Cherrynoid, Wonderboy, Crazy Jen and maybe Wendell were
with him last year for it.<br />

Put on your shit kickers and kick some shit<br />Because
sentences starting with "if everyone" usually involve a false
assumption, in this case the assumption that everyone has a no compete
clause and that they're all the same. OnadA signed their xm
contract in Aug and were putting on their skits in October.
That's not six months. Also, perhaps Howard's contract was signed
before satellite looked like a viable alternative.<br />

<p>I ain't no lawyer, but i do know this. A non-compete clause has to be fair and the compensation must be just. There are no automatic rules that apply. Each contract is negogiated individually, but you can't prevent someone from earning a living without compensating them. That compensation may be part of the current pay etc, but it must be reasonable and pass the test of being fair. The problem is that one side usually holds all the cards. Fighting a huge corporation is expensive and time consuming. So, while you might prove that you are right, the agreement unfair, by the time you are done you've lost the war because you couldn't work (the non-compete time ran out anyway) and the lawyers cost will kill you. Someone tell me if i am wrong, but this is not the kind of case a lawyer takes on contingency. You pay as you go and I know from personal experience contract cases are really, really expensive. </p><p>Having said all that I cannot imagine Infinity doing to R&F what they did with OnA. OnA were never technically fired, just taken off the air and Infinity paid their contract. It wasn't a non-compete. They were still employed and paid. If R&F have a contract Infinity will force them to stay on the air till it ends or they will let them out of it. They are not going to pay them to rollerblade around New York. There is a third option which is for infinity to make their lives (R&F) a living hell and try to get them to quit. Which would probably breach their contract and the lawsuits will start flying. </p><p>What I don't know is "is the contract with infinity or WJFK"? Because if their contract only requires them to work at WJFK then all of this makes sense to me. It means infinity can't move them to another market if they don't want to go and they can't leave 'JFK unless management lets them. What I believe used to be referred to as a mexican standoff.</p>

Ron has never been to Thursdays on Fridays, and it was
really only set up as a thing for Fez to do after the show at the end
of the week to unwind - it was never really set up as a real
promotional thing.
<p>But to answer your question, Mike from Brooklyn was in last

That said...</p><p>Some more speculation fuel:</p><p>* Fez talked about going down to Florida this weekend to go to Disney World with his family; is there a chance he knew/suspected the show might not be going on and he knew he would need a break at this specific time?</p><p>* Ron talked more than once about a meeting today, but never was specific who it was with; WJFK, the agent, XM?</p><p>* Maybe the significance of having the meeting today was because it was the day after ratings came out - giving WJFK one last chance.</p>

<p>For anyone picking up an XM, I just got one last weekend and it is truly amazing. I did a quick search for any promo codes to see if I could get anything for free, and alas.... XMSCION03 is a promo code for no activation fee (15 over the phone, 10 on the net) and 3 free months. So its basically like 50 bucks off. Nice! </p><p>Over the last week, the only time I turn to regular radio is for R&F, and with the insane amount of commercials, I even find myself switching back to XM, just out of frustration. Some stations do have commercials, but mostly just self-promotions of other XM shows. Breaks on O&A are usually songs or best-of's. Can't wait to hear R&F on good radio....</p>

<p>long time lurker and apparently I registered in Jan 04.</p><p>When
there is more than just speculation (which seems very imminent), people
at xm411.com (which I prefer) or xmfan.com can answer all your XM
questions. But, until it is officially announced, buy at your own

<p> Speculation from tonight:</p><p>* Two refeences to "Dan and Dan"</p><p>* A reference about "Wait until May"</p><p>* Talk about Super Intern, Oge, working for XM (joke or not?) </p><p>* A comment about Billy Staples being excited about "the other news story..." of the day<br />
</p><p>On the other hand, we also learned that R&F had meetings
today with their agent and WJFK station manager Michael Hughes, which
(again) comes around to an older comment about why would you
continue to have meetings if you were leaving anyway???? <br />

<p>From DCRTV....</p><p><strong><font color="#ff0000">More Rumblings: R&F To XM</font> - 4/28 - From DCRTV's Rumorama. We're getting lots of "incoming" rumblings today that WJFK-FMers Ron and Fez may just really make the jump to DC-based XM Satellite Radio. Along with another radio personality, Scott Ferrall. We're hearing that R&F and Ferrall might soon be heard on XM-202, the High Voltage channel along with Opie and Anthony. Stay tuned.....</strong></p>
