Has anyone had experience with whether or not a cellphone that was submerged under clean water for a minute or so can be salvaged?
My 1 year old literally flushed my cell phone this morning after he tossed it in the bowl (nothing in there - thank God) and luckily it didn't go down the pipes. However, I'm getting weird messages on the face plate and its not answering calls.
If it can be salvaged - great. If not, it's worth the $ to replace because, to tell the truth, it was just too hilarious to see the look on his face after he did it.
So - any soggy cells out there?

Hey James, It depends on how much water got into it if you can salvage it.
What I learned is important if you want to save it is to TAKE OFF THE BATTERY. Let that dry out for a few hours disconnected from the phone (I know it sucks but my boyfriend did this before).
Hopefully, that will help, otherwise you're screwed. Unless you have insurance on your phone and you can get it replaced for free. It's like $5 a month.

This advise is part my personal experience and part of my experience as an electrical engineer.
Put the cell phone on its SIDE, on a paper towel. If it has a side with no buttons, place it on that side.
Do not plug the phone in to charge.
If the phone is on, shut it off. Remove the battery and dry as much as you can.
After this is done, put it on its side on the paper towel.
Try to keep it in a room where the temp is not going to change a lot.
You will need to leave it like this for 2-3 days.
I had this happen to me with a cell phone 3 years ago in a puddle in NYC. phone still works today.
hope you have good luck.

Water is fine. It's the sodas, coffees ect... containing sugars & salts that will corrode after a while.

Three weeks ago I dropped my cell phone in the unused toilet when I was drunk. It didn't work for two days, but then for no reason at all it started working again. The only difference is my ringer is kind of fucked up, but the vibrator still works.

i know someone who dropeed their cell phone in the toilet (clean also), but it was only for a few seconds and after she took it out. she had to shake it hard to get the water out and then place it over a heating vent with the opening for the power plug over the heat and after a couple of hours the phone worked again. but if it was under water long enough to be flushed, i think that its dead.
