I'm here to reveal to the unknown. The Band was and is, one of the greatest ensembles ever. Please discover for yourself. Life is a carnival--take another look!

Didn't one of the members hang himself?
I dunno. 1975 called. It wants backing by Bob Dylan back.

His name was Richard Manuel and yes he did kill himself. However, my point is that The Band (the musicians) was one of the most soulful groups ever. There music was popular back in the day, but forgotten too quickly by this generation (I guess my generation). Well, if you discover something great, you must share that shit and rejoice in the celebration you share to others.

I thought you were talking about P. Diddy's abortion of a rap group Da Band....
BTW anyone know when that dude Ness' albumn coming out/is out? He seemed like the only one that had skills

Yes, now that's what I'm talking about! The movie you're talking about is the Last Waltz! Buy it or rent it, it's great. I think there's something special in their music and I just wanted to share my option

I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said.
(Chorus:)
Take a load off Fannie, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fannie, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.
I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide;
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side.
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown."
She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around."
(Chorus)
Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day.
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee
company?"
(Chorus)
Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog.
He said, "I will fix your rags, if you'll take Jack, my dog."
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man."
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can."
(Chorus)
Catch a Cannonball, now, t'take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time.
To get back to Miss Annie, you know she's the only one.
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone.
(Chorus)

The Last Waltz, and Stop Making Sense are probably the only two "Big" concert movies I can watch.
I don't think Buckwheat Zydeco's Bringin' it home can be considered "Big", but I can watch that one once a week.
*especially when they are covering "Why Does Love Got To Be So Bad", the lead guitarist busts his #6, and still pulls off a Clapton solo.
NICE!!

Somebody make some sense of these for me:
I know she's a tracker,
any scarlet would back her
They say she's a chooser,
but I just can't refuse her
She was just there, but then she can't be here no more
And as my mind unweaves, I feel the freeze down in my knees
But just before she leaves, she receives
She's been down in the dunes and
she's dealt with the goons
Now she drinks from the bitter cup,
I'm trying to get her to give it up
She was just here, I fear she can't be here no more
And as my mind unweaves, I feel the freeze down in my knees
But just before she leaves, she receives
It's long, long when she's gone, I get weary holding on
Now I'm coldly fading fast, I don't think I'm gonna last
Very much longer
She's stoned said the swede, and the moon calf agreed
I'm like a viper in shock with my eyes in the clock
She was just there somewhere and here I am again
And as my mind unweaves, I feel the freeze down in my knees
But just before she leaves, she receives

I've been watching The Last Waltz on VH1 Classic tonight.
Have it on DVD, but probably haven't checked it out in a couple years.
This is still, absolutely, without a doubt, the greatest concert film ever made (with respect to Gimmie Shelter, which is more documentary).
They've spliced in some stuff, for the airing, where I guess VH1 later interviewed Robbie Robertson talking about working with Scorsese on the film, which are kind of interesting.
Not bad stuff...doesn't really wreck the vibe of the overall concert.

I saw Rick Danko play a free concert at Clark University in Worcester, Ma in '89. I didn't really know who The Band was then, and definitely didn't know who Danko was. Then I found out more about the band, saw The Last Waltz, bought Music From the Big Pink. Started listening to other stuff like Dylan and The Band Basement Tapes. I just put on Nort'hern Lights - Southern Cross. What a great band.
About six years ago I saw Levon Helm and the Barn Burners, an excellent blues band. Levon cemented my belief that he is one of the best drummers around. He didn't sing, but he played great.

Hey, I went to Clark University 10 years later. By that time the best we could do was get Naughty By Nature to play in our cafeteria...Btw, if anyone doesnt own The Brown Album (and everyone should)...go buy it today.
