Can't complain, really - Eastwood is one of the best director of actors around, and I liked "Baby" just a smidge more than "Aviator."

Well...I went for 6 for 8; not bad, but even if you didn't see any of the films it was an easy bet.

All in all - a boring show.

Right before they had Beyonce' sing the song from Phantom, the girl (whose name escapes me right now) was to come out and present the number. She stumbled as she was coming from the side stage. Her heart was beating so hard it was coming thru the microphone which was put, conveiniently, in her cleavage. As she was speaking you could her the tump-thump-thump of her heart and it was RACING. I would ay at about 100 beats a minute.
It was pretty cool to hear. You could tell how nervous she was!

What happened with Sean Penn?


During the opening few minutes, Chris Rock made a few jokes at Jude Laws' expense. IE: "why is Jude Law in every movie?" and "who the hell is this Jude Law guy?"
The jokes were met with awkward laughter from the audience.

Approx 4 hour later, Sean Penn (aka: Humorless Cockface) came out to present an award but, before he read the names from the teleprompter, he just HAD to address what Rock had said about Law. He said SOMETHING like:
"Umm, in response to what our distinguished host asked about Mr. Jude Law, I'd like to say 'who is Jude Law?'...he's an actor. One of our finest actors...".
He might've mentioned something about the "the craft" and then he went back to the prompter. It was SUPPOSED to put Rock in his place but, it really only served to make Penn wook wike a wittle baby.

A few mins later, Rock made a quick little retort in response to what Penn said. Chris Rock "accountants" were played by two big, imposing, black guys with sunglasses during an earlier skit. Rock told the crowd that his accountants would like to "have have a few words with Sean Penn".

It was funny.

So I just got done watching <i>Million Dollar Baby</i>. Why do people have to mention there's a "twist"? Just <b>mentioning</b> the fact that there's a twist took a lot out of the movie for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie tremendously. Of course, I already looked at all the Star Wars 3 spoiler pics, so who am I to judge, eh?

People are always mis-using the word "twist" nowadays. Sometimes movies just have a "resolution" but, people use the word "twist" and it makes the viewer expect more a more intense ending.

I agree. People SHOULD just shut up and let other peeps simply enjoy a movie with no expectations, BUT...in some cases...the only way to get someone to even see the movie is to tell them it has a "really good ending". Invariably, the person will ask "what's so great about it?" to which you will reply "I don't wanna tell you...it'll spoil it. " Then the word is out that the ending is a suprise...yada yada yada. So the whole thing is kinda self-perpetuating.

Agreed. Aviator was more Spielberg than Scorsese. He doesn't need a make up award, his place is secure. Anyone who's gone to film school will tell you that. I did LOVE him giving the Lifetime achievement to Sydney Lumet. Two GREAT directors, both underappreciated by "The academy" because they're New York guys. The "Lifetime Achievement Award" is really a make up award to begin with, so Marty will end up getting one of them someday.
You know, really great art isn't supposed to be appreciated by the Hollywood types. Its kinda the whole idea.
