First off, if you are going to go see it stay for the end of the credits nice long scene after them.

Second, this movie was great! One of the better comic book movies to come out in a while and really captured the characters from the comic (besides for Constantine being Neo instead of British).

It was a fun movie, had a few laughs in it, and great for anyone who wants to go see a comic/demon movie.

It was okay. But it's not my cup of tea.

Every time I see Keana Reeves and Lawrence Fishburn in a flick, especially the characters that they've been playing lately, I feel like yelling "NEO!!!!" or "Morpheus!!!" outloud.. It's like they're playing the same characters from the Matrix.

Jimmy Fallon kissing Drew Barrymore -- on the field, on live TV -- right after the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years. In fact, they were shown in a closeup within 60 seconds of the final out. And every Red Sox fan is determined to pretend that this never happened, and that it didn't taint the moment even a little bit ... so it wasn't a huge deal.

The character was based on Sting.

But I'd still do Keanu Reeves given the chance.

Them missing the mark on the character had zero to do with him being British or American or the color of his hair. They just completely missed the mark on his personality and humanity. In the comic, he's a bastard with a heart of tarnished gold...in the movie, he was just a random asshole.

Look, I see it like "From Hell"...decent enough movie on its own, but comparing it to the comic it's based on is a waste of time. They're barely alike.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the first part there Mojo..England, or London specifically, was like a second character in the Hellblazer books...the characters, including Constantine, had a singular British charm...take the brits out of the equation and you're left with just another american do-gooder with a checkered past trying to fight demons...just like Schwartzenegger in End of Days and pretty much every other devil/demon/angel movie....I mean it worked in the Prophecy b/c it wasn't a big budget, CGI production...but the fact that it was set in Los Angeles just sounds like laziness to me on the filmmakers part...

Environment is part of story, and I'm afraid we've seen Los Angeles too many times as a setting to sci fi films to really get excited about it...I would've very much enjoyed watching a British actor like Clive Owen doing it up London style...you just don't see a lot of international moviemaking being done by american actors and i think its what gave the Bourne Identity/Supremacy and Oceans 12 its freshness.

I wonder if, at any time, they actually considered setting it in England, or if once they attached Keanu to it that someone popped in a copy of "Much Ado About Nothing" and shrieked like a scared girl.

Look, I see it like "From Hell"...decent enough movie on its own, but comparing it to the comic it's based on is a waste of time. They're barely alike.

Agreed.

As a movie, it was diverting enough, and I actually appreciated that they made it "R" rated. Nothing was really new in it, however, whenever the action actually kicked in, I found myself really enjoying it. And the thing at the end of the credits was a nice little moment.

Ok, I read some Vertigo books back in the day but I had no interest in Hellblazer for some reason.

Coming into this movie not knowing what the comic book was like, I thought the movie was pretty cool. I found the whole storyline really really interesting and I thought the movie was really visually appealing.

I kinda had to force Jeff to go see it

The movie was just ok. It wasn't bad and wasn't really good. it would probably make a better video game than a movie, and I was surprised when I saw it had a "day and date" video game release too for the Xbox and PS2.

If you want to check out a movie that's on similar theme and I think better, check out "The Prophecy" with Christopher Walken...

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0114194/

"the ....angels.....walking on the earth...and.....i......just want more.....cowbell"

Angels come to Earth to find a human soul that can end the war in heaven. Humans are caught up in this battle and must find a way to stop the angel Gabriel before he takes the soul back from where the angel Simon has hidden it.

Martin (Elias Koteas) plays a priest who lost his faith and became a cop instead. The archangel Gabriel (Christopher Walken) has started a war in heaven, because he dislikes that God cares so much for the humans. As long as there is a war in Heaven, no souls can leave the dead bodies. Gabriel searches the earth for souls he can use in his army and Simon (Erich Stoltz) is trying to stop him. Martin figures out what's going on and join forces with Simon.

I'm sure there was a Matrix Thread, and a Devil's Advocate thread.

How did Keanu make this movie without Pacino as the Devil?

I'm just going to pretend "Constanteen" (The guy's fucking name is pronounced "CON-STAN-TYNE." The fucked EVERYTHING up) never existed.

Besides, we already got a movie that's a million times closer to being a genuine Hellblazer film...

They had a pronounciation guide in the Hellblazer comics? I mean, that's an honest question. I always thought the Emporor Constantine was pronounced Constanteen due to the fact that the latin "I" is pronounced as a hard "e" sound.

Emperor Constantine is pronounced "ConstanTEEN."

But he was French, right? There's no English version of "Constanteen." In Britain, the name is "Con-stan-tyne."

Besides, there was always shit like this in the comic...

http://hellblazer.ipbhost.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=330

It's been a running joke that Americans get the name wrong.

I finally saw this movie. The casting of Keanu is such an egregious error, that the fact that it isn't set in England becomes a footnote. I could name 5 actors off the top of my head who would have been a better fit.Hey, here is an idea, how about casting Sting? Sin City is the last hope of this genre or maybe the new Batman. I was a big comic fan and can't even get myself to see these butcher job's any more.

For example: Kindest Regards, Your Name

It felt exactly like what it was...a movie written by seven different people.

Mojo, did you think Hellboy was good? I thought it was the best executed comic movie since the first XMEN. Don't give us hollywood stars, give us the characters we already like and we'll make stars out of the actors. EG. Hugh Jackman,Tobey Mcguire. By the way, Fanatastic 4 looks like a disaster.
