I realise there is another thread on this show (the BBC version) but I could not access the page (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/80/Topic/37420/page/BBC___The_Office.htm).

Well, I was looking to see how long NBC was going to keep Committed on for (only a 3.0 rating so far, meh) and I stumble across that The Office is going to debut on March 24th after The Donald at 9:30.

http://www.tvtome.com/images/shows/22/3/43-16722-sm.jpg

I just know this has to go over better than the failed NBC version of Coupling did. Some of these previews on the NBC site (http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Office) had me rolling. I just wonder how they will be able to get away with some of the stuff shown here in the previews. The racial diversity clip looks especially uncomfortable.

I've always wanted to watch the original BBC series. I may have to just plunk down and buy it without having first saw it.

You can find the entire first episode of the remake online. Do a simple google search for "American office".
And then do yourself a favor and buy the BBC version - funniest show since Seinfeld, but you really have to watch the entire run of 12 30min episodes and 1 90min special. The American version is a line-for-line re-enactment, just without the humor.

Only the first episode is an American version of the British series. The rest is supposedly "original"...

I'll check it out but my mom got the British DVD's for Christmas and we LOVED them. Remakes almost always suck.

Just to tie threads together, Tim from the British version is playing the lead in "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy." Which is choice!

The Office was fucking brill. I'll give the American version a chance, but we'll see how it is.

And the actors from the Office show up in everything from Pirates of the Carribbean to Shaun of the Dead.

...and I CANNOT look at Tim anymore after his brilliant "we're going to die so what the hell" moment in Ali G's INDAHOUSE. That was just abit uncomfortable.

I think it is such a neat tie in to see all The Office guys or different actors from different Britcoms in OTHER Britcoms and doing different parts.

Shaun played by Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead starred and wrote with Jessica Stevenson in the brilliant Britcom Spaced. Jessica Stevenson played Yvonne in SOTD whom Shaun kept bumping into throughout the movie. Actually seeing SOTD got me looking for other things with Simon Pegg as well as other Brit shows that have interesting characters I go and see what else they have been in and how I can get to see it. Thank heavens for IMDB.

Ricky Gervais from The Office has two stand up specials on DVD in England which according to the reviews are funny as hell. Anyone seen them? I have them on order and am waiting patiently for them.

It reminded me a lot of Reno 911! too much to get really into it. I found it very funny though, and I think it has a lot of potential excluding Steve Carell, whom I personally dont like for the part that hes playing.

it had it's moments, carell can be a little too forced ... but, overall pretty funny ...

having said that, the show won't last too long ...

Um, am I the only one who is disappointed they rehashed around 80% of the jokes from the BBC version and the plot is pretty much identical?

They could of wrote some new bits...

Well thats good news. :) Especially since nothing could top David Brent's dance scene..Man, the scene where he tries to show up his boss' disco moves with his hyrbid MC hammer'esqe moves..classic!

Or what about the customer service speaker..."There's been a rape up there!!!" "See, you have to get their attention."...good times...

Regardless the Tivo season pass is already setup.

The reviewer on NPR's Fresh Air said it sucked and to watch the original british version. They're rerunning it all weekend on BBC America.

I thought the first ep was entertaining, even if it was just a rehash of the first Brit ep. I'll give the next ep a chance, I think it could be good if it really skewers the American workplace.

I thought the second episode with the Chris Rock routine was hilarious. It's been better than I thought but it's not going to catch on. I think the awkward moments will throw people off. Most people are too used to 'sitcom' comedy.

Even if it doesn't compare to the original I still think this version is funnier than a lot of shows out there right now.

I am surorised no one has asked so far.... Dwight or Gareth???

Both
of them are the sleepers of their respective shows. While Gareth is
creepy funny, Dwight is just plain nuts! The scene when David was
playing guitar and Gareth starts singing background was classic. Also
anytime Tim and Dawn mess with him ("Did you see 'A Gay Lord Says
"No"'"?, 'No') But, Dwight in the box and with peroxide in the hair was
prettu nuts too. I hope this show lasts cuz I see good things.

So far so good. Very VERY uncomfortable so far which I really like.

I
have a hard time getting Dwight confused with Arthur from his role on
Six Feet Under. The blonde trick this past week though pretty much
stopped the comparison. Like I did with BBC's The Office, I watched the
first season straight through and then after watching them again,
really got into it and laughed my ass off. Sure, with a TV show most
people aren't taping and the initial episode should do the trick.

I hope it returns next season if it has not been renewed just yet.

Got to agree, both Earl and The Office rocked. I still love the British version (by the way the same guys are putting out Extras on HBO soon) and it's tough to adapt to the US version even though it is great. I love the lack of laugh tracks and the fact that it takes place in the area where I grew up and fled once I found out how to walk by sheer luck! Earl started in a way that I thought was a little over-the-top stupid. But after they did this to simply set up the story line, it calmed down and produced the funny very effectively. I have to say NBC has made a few good moves of late and has me Tivo'in away for two hours now on Tuesday (I also like SVU with Merlonin of Harold and Kumar and Wondershozen). Cool dude I ran into a few times in the city and shot the shit with at a little shit bar. Other then that, NBC's only other good show is Conan. You know the network is sad when they already have the olympic logo in the corner. Way too early, who fucking cares.
