did your local park have one of these?

it was that carousel you sat or knelt on and hung onto the bars for dear life as the big kids spun you around... usually it was in a sandpit but sometimes on grass

i certainly remember several times holding on to the bar with my last bit of strength praying for it to slowdown.

i was at a girlscout picnic with my daughters and my neighbor who was one of the fathers decided he was gonna spin the kids. i was watching this from a good distance away. i knew it was a recipe for disaster. He 'for some reason' spun the thing as fast as he could and before long wouldn't you know it, a young girl gets thrown off but lands close to the carousel. She's sitting up and here comes some kids leg and smacks her right in the face

when you become a Dad your perspectives change... although i went on them all the time i didn't want my daughters anywhere near it

Hell yes! My buddy still has one in the playground right near his house and sometimes when we're drunk or high and feeling brave we'll go play on it and rekindle some memories.

Remember these? Always fun watching the heavy kids "overload" it..

They also use to have this dish shaped thing that spun and it was solid metal and got like 800 degrees in the sun and kids would get in and be spun around too, often with sand and other crap added in for good measure. Amazing that more kids didnt get killed on these things..

those were stupid, the merry go round as we called it dominated. when the counselers at rec got to spinnin, we used to hold on and let our body fly out like superman

We had this at a park near my house. But, instead of woodchips or sand around it, it was black rubber that heated to 150 degrees in the summer. So if had shorts on and fell of the carousel, not only did you roll and tumble, but you were burned as well.

Man, I do miss that thing.

they are cut up tires, and thats the stupidest idea ever. not only why you said, but also, they always get tracked into the courts, then youll either slip on em and roll an ankle, or bounce a ball off one and lose the handle.
