Not exactly -- Rutles (http://www.rutles.org/) were a Beatles parody. The Monkees were an attempt to pre-fabricate the Beatles for a TV show. While the Monkees are clearly a step down from the Beatles, they did have some pretty talented songwriters putting together their songs and made some decent 60s pop songs.
