you need to PAY ATTENTION to things the reason
schill is in the bullpen is to help the team win while he pitches
himself into good enough shape to throw enough pitches to start. He
isnt going to the bullpen to stay, he is there in place of rehabbing in
the minors, and as soon as he is back to form he WILL be starting

fan who needs starting pitchers more than anyone, I hope either you or
Baltimore overpays for that mediocre crap. But I dont even want him.

He was down for over five minutes. They just stretchered him out.I just saw the replay. He got nailed on or above the ear. The ball bounced all the way to third base.

Good Lord, that hit looked horrible.  That was an absolute pitcher's nightmare of a line drive.  Here's hoping and praying Matt ends up being OK...he was a great pitcher during his time with the Cubs (had half the male fans in the stands sporting goatees whenever he threw), and all-around decent guy.  Speedy recovery, Matt!

Great player, but who's going to take that $$? And the Sox need him.
They need all the runs they can get with thier pitching/relievers.
Plus, despite how "unhappy" he is, he still puts up his #s, so what

I really gotta think that they won't pull the
trigger on this. Aubrey Huff might be the best bat they can hope to get
back, but he is still a far cry from Ramirez. And he might be worse in
the field than Ramirez. They'd have two DH's in the lineup every night,
Ortiz and Huff. I don't think their offense can afford to take this big
a hit. With no protection for Ortiz I can't see anyone pitching to him
in any significant situation.

The way this is spreading, I think its already on the Commish's desk.
Its on MLB.com, Boston Globe, ESPN.com etc. And you'd be nuts to leak a
trade that isn't completed yet. Neer said it should be finalized by
midnight, and it takes the baseball office a while to go over the
details of any deal. Sounds to me like a done deal. We'll know for sure
by tomorrow.

Cameron's a nice player, Huff's a good hitter. Both can be pitched
to. But you cant replace the offensive threat of a Ramirez. Not doable.
You cant replace one of the best hitters in Baseball, unless you get a
Bonds, Pujols, A-Rod in return. These deals make your team mediocre. I
remember when the Yanks traded Ricky Henderson and got back 3 players
who did what Ricky did. One stole a few bases, One played outfield,
etc. And the team sucked after Ricky left. You cant replace impact
players.

I know Omar Minaya wasn't there at the time (yes man Jim Duquette was)
but you have to be kicking yourself knowing if you are going to assume
ALL of Manny's contract now, then why didn't you just claim him off
waivers last year and give up no one? I think The Sox have to pick up
at least 5 mil per (15 mil total) off that contract. But everyone's saying the deal's dead now, so its probably moot.

Well I made it to Fenway for the 14 AUG BoSox-ChiSox game when I was back in CONUS.  I scooped up a ticket for standing room in the Right Field roof seats.  That is a pretty sweet section:  a great view of the park and Budweiser and Cuban sandwiches just mere steps away!El Tiante's on Yawkey Way rocks.Oh, and farewell and thank you Mark Bellhorn.

Which is exactly why the Cubs let him go.  Guy is an absolutely stellar starter the first half of the season, and then starts sliding downhill the second half.  He's an anti-playoff pitcher...just doesn't have the stuff to keep up his pace all season.

I always think its harder to score runs in the post season, even
though the stat geeks will tell you it's not so. I think letting Lowe
and Pedro go (and replacing them w/Clement and Wells) was where Theo
went wrong. Plus, you cant keep falling behind 2-0 in a series or 3-0
and expect to comeback. Everybody runs out of miracles sooner or later.And dont forget you lost Foulke, who was huge last year.

at least for the Pen. Pedro i didnt worry about cause he wasnt coming
back no matter what, but I'm sure we coulda kept lowe. Wish he was

not to make excuses but this wasn't the same red sox team that won last yearso considering all the pitching problems they had this season I'm surprised they evenmade the playoffs, if not for the spankees also struggling the sawx wouldn't have been in contention with all the problems they had.

Dan Shaunessy of the Globe was on the Dog's show this afternoon.
Says they're going to make major changes next year. Basically tear this
team down, bring up the kids they really like and start building the
next championship team. One thing though. Who's building it?
Theo's contract expires and he's said to want alot more money AND power
to make deals. Lucchino in or out? 
And I dont have any Boston media in Queens, so who do they mean? Damon? Says he wants to stay, loves the city, Boras client. Will go to highest bidder. Manny?
Front Office has wanted for years to get his 20 mil off the books and
spend it to fill 2-3 other needs. As a Yankee fan, I couldn't be
happier if he goes. Papelbon should be a starter next year.  Another
thing worth mentioning. If you look at the available free agents this
year, Its not a great list. A few middle relievers/closers. A few nice
players here and there, nothing exciting with the starting pitchers. So
it's probably a TRADING off season this year.

Damon, Manny, Millar are all gonna be gone. Sox have a really deep
minor league system with a lot of guys they want to bring up. A few
young pitchers as well. Mueller might be gone too.

Bring up Youkilis to replace Mueller.  If Renteria doesn't improve next year, bring up Hanley Ramirez.  And make Papelbon a starter. I have mixed feelings about losing Manny.  Sure, his contract eats up a lot of money, his defense is suspect and his "Manny being Manny" moments give me an ulcer, but to lose his bat, especially with Big Papi, is like breaking up Maris and Mantle.  Those two guys carried this team this year in spite of shitty pitching.

If Damon leaves the Sox, the ONLY team he'd end up on is the Yankees.  Only those two teams have the motivation AND the money to shell out for the cash and years he's demanding.I'd love to see the Cubs pick him up, since they need a CF AND a great leadoff hitter, but I can't see him going anywhere for less than a three-year deal, and I doubt anyone besides the Yanks or Sox would bite with the cost.

Dont be so sure, Mojo. What the Yanks need badly in CF is defense,
they have enough hitting elsewhere. And Jeter has embraced the leadoff
spot. I'm hearing Tori Hunter, who sounds good to me. And the
Yanks dont just collect names like some people think. They didn't even
BID on Beltran last year. They thought he was overpriced, which as it
turns out he was. (Sorry to derail this on the Yanks, especially here) If
they're serious about moving Manny, it will be VERY interesting to see
what kind of year Big Papi has without his bodyguard behind him.As
to the other changes, thats alot to do in one year and still try to
compete. I know the Braves did it this year, but thats rare. Usually
teams with alot of rookies are in the basement.  And
if you're the Mets, and have a chance to get Manny (and Bengie Molina
at catcher) but are worried you cant afford him, I'm sure George will
GLADLY float you a loan.
