Again look at the numbers don't just pick out one phrase and take it out of context.  What i said was they did overacheive last year and you admitted it with mediocre pitching and come from behind wins and i said that 61 is a lot to expect again this year.Take off those pinstriped glasses and view the team from a real world perspective not a blind homer perspective

Even Joe Torre said that the Yankees stuggled all year last year but
somehow managed to win over 100 games. I don't think it's far-fetched
to say they over-achieved. I swear, with some of you guys it's like
you've never played a real organized game of baseball in your lives.
The Yanks had an incredible amount of come from behind victories last
year, that's not something teams can do every year and be successful.
It's not like I feel like debating this, I just don't think KO is as
crazy as some of you guys are saying.

As a Mets fan, nothing makes me happier than the recent woes of the Yankees.  The formula for the Yankees failure is quite simple.  They have completely done a 180 fom the philosophy that allowed them to re-emerge as a Dynasty in the late 90's.  Look at those teams and you see a solid core of young homegrown talent (Jeter, Posada, Bernie, Mo, Pettite, etc.) surrounded by a cast of solid veterans (Brosius, O'Neill) not superstars by any stretch of the imagination.  They had the highest paid farm system in all of baseball and they cultivated great young talent for the big leagues.  At the same time their Major League payroll was not astronomical, in fact it was less than the Baltimore Orioles.  Over the past few years their outrageous payroll has made it impossible for them to continue to pay high $$ amounts for young talent in AAA, and they have let their farm system go to shit.  Granted, a good portion of the payroll comes from retaining the guys they cultivated over a decade ago who became superstars.  But a much higher portion of their $205 million payroll comes from mercennaries who are rapidly approaching 40 (and in some cases 45).  Mediocre pitching (and mediocre is stretching it), an aging boss who is starting to see the bottom of his pockets, and a depleted farm system spell a few miserable years for the Yankees!!!

This game could've been absolutely blown open in that last inning.... 3 consecutive walks. Bases loaded, no one out. A decent fly ball scores a run. And we got NOTHING. ZERO. And look who it was that hit into the inning-ending double play! JASON GIAMBI! WOW! WHAT A SHOCK! Why Giambi is even in the GAME is beyond my comprehension!

Why Giambi is even in the GAME is beyond my comprehension!it probably has something to do with that monster mother fucker contract that he is stealing from the yankees.speaking of, if you were steinbrenner wouldnt you just cut him and be done with it? you're obviously never going to get anything out of him. why even bother. Me being a Met fan, i'd love to be the owner just to cut Kaz Matsui. its players like them that you'd just like to cut because they just fucking disgust you. i don't know why its such a rarity in baseball. i'd take glee in paying giambi to sit out the remainder of his contract.

The Yankees absolutely refuse to hit with runners in scoring position. Bases loaded, no out. Virtually anything scores a run... failed to push across a single run. 9th inning, runner on 2nd, no out... a single base hit is all that's required to tie. Failure to do so. If Steinbrenner sits by idly for another day, he's crazy. It's time for drastic measures. Not stupid, irrational drastic measures (like Cano/Wang for Clemens), but drastic measures. Something that will at least shake up the organization, and light a fuckin' spark under the Yankees' asses. Like for one, CUT Giambi, flat out. EAT THE CONTRACT. Sorry, it's a lot of money. But having the guy out there is HURTING us. It's better to EAT the money than to HARM the team.

I stress my point once again... The pitching is fine... We just can't score runs. Offensively, we look like the 2004 Diamondbacks. And so, a good outing from Pavano gone to waste.

Ben Sheets is a bonafide ace. He doesn't get the
attention he deserves because he plays in Milwaukee. He was going to be
a free agent after this season but Milwaukee resigned him. If he had
made it, he would have been the best available BY FAR.Offense is still atrocious though.

Grey Skies are going to clear up ---If Jaret Wright remains on the DL for another 29 days, which the Yankees think will be the case, they will have the opportunity to void his three-year, $21-million deal after next season by paying him a $4-million buyout, saving the team $3 million. Well maybe only 2 years of this guy and a whopping 3 million in savings, or maybe if Wadd gets to be the GM - Wright and Giambi for Pedro could be in the mix

You look up and down this roster, and they so much talent its hard
to imagine them being a sub-.500 team. I dont think they need a trade,
guys just have to put up last years season and they should be fine.
Even with a bad Giambi and Brown, they should still be 5 games in
front. If this team will play to its career averages, weve got ALOT of hitting and pitching coming. Plus no one else is running away with it.

Well, the Cardinals and White Sox are doing plenty of running in their divisions...though they're finally starting to slip ever so slightly...I dunno, maybe the Yankees are just too old at this point.  It happens to everyone at some point...they've been playing fast and loose without any real top young players for a few years now, and now that's biting them in the ass.Figures...I get to see the Yankees in person for the first time ever this month, and it's THIS team.Ah well, still psyched about seeing Jeter.  They guy's one of the greats, and I really respect him as a ballplayer.

keep in mind I'm a Yankee fan...I find it pretty funny that
every night on Sportscenter lately they run a segment that might as
well be called, "The Yankees: OMGWTF"I am preying to the great
NY Baseball shrine that Steinbrenner can simply accept this season as a
loss, with the only major firing being Cashman's.  Flushing the
coaching staff, or even shaking up the pitching staff too much before
they've had the chance to really settle (Vasquez, anyone? Leiber? what
were you thinking?) I don't know what's left on Brown's contract, but
he's the one guy who does need to go, along with Giambi, (just keep
Tino around) but we know Giambi's track marked ass is staying a few
more years, so we need to keep these young guys and give them a chance
to rebuild, and with Jeter, A-rod, Matsui,  Mussina, and Posada
(who I think simply doesn't care anymore) leading them, it won't take
that long, in fact, they should be able to Win the WS again before the
end of Johnson's contract. (when he's friggin' 45)But stop trying to win every single year, lest you become the Knicks, or the Rangers

Brown on the disabled list is not good. As a 5th
starter he has been fine. You better hope he's not out for a long time.
His best possible replacement is Jaret Wright, and he might not even be
available. I'd prefer Brown to Wright, and greatly prefer Brown to
somebody from the minors. I don't want to see Sean Henn pitching
again.

starts. Johnson and Mussina like a strict every 5th day start, which

77 for me. I was 8 years old and saw Reggie hit 3 in a WS game and was hooked. Forget
the trade talk. This is the group, like it or not. At least until the
trading deadline, maybe then you get a salary dump from somewhere. But
look up and down this lineup. They should score. And their pitching
staff (on paper) should be fine. Pavano, Randy (who threw a pitch 101
MPH last start) have had a tough trime adjusting to the Yanks/AL, but I
expect a good second half from both. Mussina's been fine, Wang a
pleasant surprise. Brown. . .who cares. I'd be more worried if Baltimore was running away w/it, but they're not. 100 games left. 6 to make up.

On this day of rest I think it's important that we give thanks for all the blessings we've recieved as Yankee fans.  I'm thankful first off, for last nights victory and the uplifting fasion we went into this off -day on.  I'm thankfull for all the great moments this team has given me over the last 19 years, and all the great players i've had the honor of watching.  People like Jeter, Pettite, Paully, Mo, Donnie baseball, slick Ricky Henderson, Kevin Mass and Steve Sax.  I'm thankfull that my team and its great players can serve as role models and conduct themselves as upstanding citizens unlike many other atheletes today.  Finally I'm thankful that when all the other 5th graders hopped on that bandwagon in 86 that I chose to pick that other team because I liked thier 1st baseman.

It's funny, cuz despite all the shit I've taken in this thread (The Yankees thread, of all places), I haven't even considered wasting my time doing the same in the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles, or any other team thread. I think the last time I posted in any of those threads was like a month ago, I dropped in to say "Na-na-na-na-na, the Yankees beat the Red Sox". That's about the extent of it. What I'm saying is... I think the main source of this whole problem is that people need to move out of their mother's basement and get a job.

Sorry folks, but Giambi is worthless. He can't hit, he can't play the field. He just spoiled an amazing play by Jeter. And granted that pickoff throw from Wang wasn't perfectly on target, but Tino would've grabbed it. Jeter's diving snag and off-balance throw was a fucking WORK OF ART. 
...And Giambi fucked it up.

I think the big contrast in our hitting this year as compared to last year is 2 guys: Sheffield and Matsui. Last year, these two guys were really the cement that solidified a dangerous line-up, in which 8 out of 9 guys could easily hit the ball out of the park. Last year, the Yankee offense felt threatening every night. But this year, two of our biggest power hitters who constantly drove in big runs are virtually invisible. Matsui got off to a great first week, but has all but DIED since then... 4 HRs on the season so far? And Sheffield is somehow batting .301 right now, but I don't see him ever doing it in a big spot anymore. He also isn't hitting the longball nearly as much as he did last year. Without these two guys being rock solid as they were last year, it leaves some big holes in our offense. On top of that, you've got Torre inexplicably playing Giambi 4-5 nights a week, so there's another dead bat. At the plate, Womack is good for nothing other than bunting. Posada's batspeed has slowed down significantly since his prime days. We're pretty much going out there with 4 guys who can do anything at the plate anymore... Jeter, A-Rod, Cano, and Sierra (assuming he's DHing, which he should every night.)

Listen, Snoogans got my first point, while here is the second.  I hate hometown fans almost anywhere I go.  Obnoxious, and clueless most of the time.  Just following it as a reason to drink with friends.  I find most fans away from their city are much more knowledgeable.  Hockey is the one exception to the rule as most fans are much more involved.  It's a very tight following.  I see even Wadd seems more up on his NY I posts.  In my past post I was stating the above facts, the fact that I hate the front runner fans as well.  Both equally annoying.  Even Crippler pisses me off.  Dam you Snuggle Bear!

does it really matter if you root for home teams or not??  I never
rooted for a home team when i was a child.  I wasnt introducted to
them by my parents, because they watched other teams.  Only home
team i root for is the Nets.  As long as your a true fan, and root
for the team and still like them during the hard times your a
fan.  Not more or less of someone who might be from the area.
