I don't think he'll get booed this weekend if he happens to
under-perform, baseball is a game of failure and with how hot's he's
been he can just as easily cool off at any time. He's won us alot of
games recently, why boo him just because he doesn't play well for 3
games? It's not even June.

YOu can't really boo him this weekend if he doesn't have a great performance... I mean, I can understand boo's after a LONG stretch of zero production, like Giambi is getting... But I mean, a major MAJOR part of this 15 for 17 run has been due to A-Rod's contribution. The guy's not hitting meaningless homeruns and base hits. A lot of his big offensive plays have been the deciding factors in these games, as it was tonight. I'm not down for boo'ing a guy if he goes a day without a hit. In the last 17 games, A-Rod's done enough to earn himself non-booing status for a while. He'd have to hit another long hardcore slump to deserve getting boo'ed again.

He has to do it against the Redsox in my Book Game. He can do it against the Tigers and all other teams all he wants. But like last week when he poped up in a big spot vs the Mets. I think it's easy to say "we need to see him do it in the playoffs" and I agree with that... but you can't discredit him for doing it during the regular season, cuz if you don't deliver during the season, you ain't even makin' the playoffs. It may be the Tigers and the A's, but these games count too... In a division with the Red Sox and these new Orioles, you can't just assume we'll end up in the playoffs.

Good point. and point well taken Hawk. I'm not saying it means nothing because he is fun to watch and is one of the main reasons why the Yanks are winning again. In fact him succeeding is a double whammy for Yankee haters. The only thing worse for Jealous Arod fans the him hitting is him hitting and helping the Yankees. So when he does good its double good. I just like to see him hit against the Redsox thats all.

Hey fuck you Hawk!  You might want to look to your side at the very young and great pitching Blue Jays.  In fact, the spanks have never led them this season yet.  If the Jays came out of this division it might be that first sign of the apocalypse the republican right can't seem to wait for.  But wouldn't it be nice to see three big money teams get beat by a bunch of hard playing kids who love the game.  If you win a championship, let alone a division with teams/budgets like the Twins, Jays and A's, you've earned it the old fashioned way.  Hell, you actually deserve it!  Arod couldn't lead any of his past teams to a title, neither could Clemens and many others.  They had to go to the all-star teams.  Let's be serious, Boston has been the same as the Yanks for a long time now too.  Big money may not guarantee you a title, but it does raise the odds since most of these teams make the playoffs.

A-Rod was crushing the ball in the playoffs before Game 4 of the Red
Sox series? Why does he take all the flack when EVERYBODY in the
lineup, Jeter, Sheffield, Matsui, Posada, all sucked after Game
4?

I'll bet you this, take his stats away from game 3 in the Sox series and you'll see much different numbers over the other 6 games.  Now I honestly dont know this for a fact but knowing how he is I feel its a safe bet.  I'll also bet about 10 of his HRs this year have come in games decided by 7-8 runs or more.

ALso, Sheff doesn't get as much flack because he wasn't brought in with
a 10 year, $250 million dollar pricetag. I agree with you that many of
the Yanks under-performed just as much, and if not more, than A-rod
last postseason. But we've seen Yankee greats get it done in October
when it counted, and we want A-Rod to be that next great.

for these two veterans? It is conceivable that the Yankees would
jettison <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/4268/">Gary Sheffield</a>
who is in a contract year to Philadelphia in return for this package.
However, due to the stature of Billy Wagner as a closer and the
potential Burrell provides, some long term help would need to be
included in this deal. That is where Caonabo Cosme comes into the
picture. Cosme is currently playing for the Yanks' AAA club, the
Columbus Clippers and batting .261 with 4 home runs and 13 RBI. Cosme's
track to the majors is currently blocked by the likes of <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5275/">Alex Rodriguez</a>
and <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5406/">Derek Jeter</a>
. If the Phillies acquired Cosme rights, he could step in for <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5343/">David Bell</a>
a year or two down the line and become the third baseman of the future,
barring a major free agent signing during the off-season. 

The addition of Sheffield would add some pop to this lineup for the
remainder of the 2005 season and would clear Burrell's hefty long term
contract off of the books, and at the same time providing a contract
that expires at the end of the year. The trade with the Yankees would
fill two of the Phillies biggest needs; offensive firepower, and long
term salary relief. The money saved on Burrell's contract could be
spent to purchase a legitimate center fielder, and possibly even a top
of the rotation type of pitcher. 
I don't know what to think of this one. I don't
even now whether to trust it, seeing as this guy doesn't even know that Sheffield isn't in a contract year, that he has a year
remaining after this season. Frankly, if this is true, I can't see the
Yankes pulling this off without including Cano or Wang, and I wouldn't
be willing to do that, even for both Burrell and
Wagner.

Fuck THAT shit.I second that even being a non-Yankee fan.Personally,
I don't want Sheffield here in Philly but more importantly, as much as
I do not care for the Yankees, you do not want Pat Burrell. He had one
good year. Ever since he has done his best impression of a windmill
with his horrid swing. Defensively he is good int he outfield but he's
no gem.Wagner would be a nice addition to your bullpen and a nice back-up for Mariano Rivera.From
everything I have read (maybe just wishful thinking on my part) if
there is to be a trade for Wagner it would be for some decent
prospects. Last I checked, wasn't the Yanks Farm System pretty
depleted? Then again, our GM is so inept he would pull such a move and
trade Wags for some AAA garbage.

Did you check before or after we brought up Cano and Wang? That's
the thing, it isn't exactly top priority for me to research the farm
systems of other teams. Are there any good players besides Wang and
Cano (who just looks damn impressive) in the yankee's system? If there
would be any kind of trade for Wagner or Burrell, I would love to get a
good young catcher. Is there any good catching prospects in the
system?

I thought about that... but when you look at a picture like that, it looks like it's in favor of Pavano. Like, he's pitching the ball... so it looks like he's "owning" the batter. Then I tried to look for a picture of him that time he got hit in the head, but I couldn't find it... So I gave up.

up 19 runs in his last 4 starts. I never really considered him a strong

anyone on the Yanks is ever gonna be close to being a Pettite, I think
it going to be Pavano, even after today. Pettite was good for a couple
of really awful starts a season, so I'm not in a panic over today. Just
the way he pitches, the way he's pitched in big games in the past (it
was for the Marlins, but the World Series is the World Series), reminds
me slightly of Pettite. Pavano needs to be more consistent, and given
time I think he will.

Remind me how that playoff year ended up?  Oh yah, probably the most embarrassing and worst falling out in the history of sports.  EVER!  Looks like money can't buy em all.  17-1 is a priceless loss to your biggest rival!  I can't wait until they have to play a few more good teams.  Boston is the first team the Spanks have played in about of month with a winning record!  The only other team around 500 was the fucking Mets.  You lost the series to the Blue Jays at the turn of the month, then managed to beat the likes of Tampa Bay, Oakland, Seatle, Oakland, Seatle again, NY Mets (should have lost all three here if it wasn't for the idiotic Met plays), Detroit and finally the Red Sox (series tied at 1-1).  Yet against good teams in April, the yankees lost every three game series but the first one versus Boston.  They lost to Baltimore, Texas, LA Angels, Boston and even split a two game series with TB.  Sorry but I think I'll rate the Spanks against the likes of those teams versus those of May.  Oh yah, I bet your boys can't wait for the upcoming 2 week road trip.  Let's see how you fare against the Twins and Cardinals."gave up on the Yankees in April"  <--- Seems you jumped back on the bandwagon?

Every good team gets blown out every season. It's 162-game season. There's always gonna be some embarassing losses. 
And yeah, everyone knows how last season ended for the Yankees, but 3 outs away from the World Series is better than playing golf.

i remember seeing halsey and thinkin about that guy in the beginning of
the movie The Scout, i think he was played by michael rappaport. a
great pitcher who got on that big stage too early and panicked. i dont
think he turns out as good if he stays, i think thats a big part of the
lack of success of alot of guys that come to NY, especially the mets
guys, when they leave they fuckin dominate

true. Its amazing how much Pavano reminds you of Andy Pettite, and
Torre has said as much. One big difference though. He's a righty, and
Yankee stadium favors leftys. Hitters and pitchers.  I
was never the biggest Pettite fan, though. As Michael Kay would say,
he's "The Girl with the curl". When he was good, he was so good. But
when he was bad, he was soooooo bad. For every great big game Pettite
pitched, he had a clunker. Likein 96 first start against Braves 7 earned runs in 2 1/3. Next start, out duels John Smoltz and pitches a shutout.

Other than my mod quote, what are you basing your "fair weather fan" judgement on? You have no idea. None. I've been a fan since 1989, when I was 5. You remember, around the last time the Blue Jays were a competitive team? With the exception of 5 or 6 games, I have watched at least a solid portion of most games this season thus far. I've watched at least 35 of the games from start to finish, including yesterday's 17-1 loss and all those shitty games in April. I don't know why I am sitting here trying to prove myself to you, cuz it's a futile effort, but I'll say once again, you have NO basis of judgement to call me a "fair weather fan" cuz you have no idea how serious I am about the Yankees. If you want to continue believing I'm a "fair weather" or "bandwagon" fan, that's your call... You can believe folklore and fantasy if you wish. The thing with Randy Johnson is, when Randy Johnson doesn't pitch well, he gives up 3 or 4 runs over 7 innings. When anyone else doesn't pitch well, they give up 7 runs over 2 innings. So I mean, he's clearly being held to a higher standard, WITH GOOD REASON. I mean, he came here to dominate, and he's getting a fat paycheck, so he's gonna be under the microscope, but still... I'm still waiting for their pitching to collapse. They have alot of
guys who all have seemed to "found" themselves at the same time. Might
be luck, might be for real and Ray Miller deserves alot of credit. But
its a long season, and these things usually dont last.

H-box, lower your expectations. This Yankee team is going NOWHERE. Even
if they get to the playoffs (which I doubt) They dont have the type of
hitting (They rely too much on HR's) or pitching to go anywhere.We needed RJ to be dominant to be in good shape. I've yet to see last years RJ.  Its not our year.

Is it me or does it seem like after every Red Sox-Yankee series, both teams lay an egg the next series?I agree HBox.  Of course, the media hypes up the series.  But what pissed me off for years is that some Sox fans would treat a Yankee-Sox series like it was the World Series.  That no mattered what else happens, everything would be great as long as the Sox beat the Yankees. And I think some teams of the past bought into that. BULLSHIT.  EVERY series matters.  I get just as pissed when they lose to Tampa Bay or Kansas City or Detroit as when they lose to the Yankees.

First time the Yankees have been swept by the Royals in what 11 years.Even better fact:  This is the first sweep by the Royals (including 2 game series) in a series in their last 81 series.  Now that is truly amazing.  Or that for the first time in history (2) back to back 200 game winners (Johnson and Brown) were both beat by guys who had no wins at that point.Plus, the orioles are still in first right?

Here's what I don't get.... Everyone's blaming our pitching, but
what about the OFFENSE?  It's non-existent!  Our pitching
last year was SHIT!  But our offense was strong enough to bail us
out of a record 61 come-from-behind victories.  We ALWAYS went
down early last year, but the Yankees played 9 innings of offense, so
it was never over till the last out.  Giving up 6 or 7 runs was an
everyday thing last year, but it didn't matter, cuz we'd win 9-6. 
Fuck the pitching... WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR BATS?!

last year was SHIT!  But our offense was strong enough to bail us out
of a record 61 come-from-behind victories.  We ALWAYS went down early
last year, but the Yankees played 9 innings of offense, so it was never
over till the last out.  Giving up 6 or 7 runs was an everyday thing
last year, but it didn't matter, cuz we'd win 9-6.  Fuck the
pitching... WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR BATS?!  offense
wins games, defense wins chapionships. the second you understand that,
you'll realize why in the long run you need pitching and not bats.

When Wang gives up 3 runs over 7 innings, and then we leave the bases loaded, you can't possibly blame the pitching. The Yankees are simply incapable of hitting the ball anymore.
 The way we've been playing, we'd need our pitchers to go out and pitch no-hitters every night. Is that realistic?

Chickenhawk you answered your own question:The yankees were a mediocre team last year that over acheived to get to the ALCS.  The reason is 61 come from behind victories if you count on even half of that every year it is ludicrous.  Everyone was simply overjoyed that an old team from last year added some more old guys to a already "championship" quality team.  But no one wanted to be honest with what the yankees were and that is old.  They remind me alot of the 98 orioles who locked into long term deals with guys based on past performance and traded away youth for a shot at the ring.  Honestly - Bernie Williams old, Derek Jeter getting there, Mariano Rivera old, Randy Johnson and Kevin Brown both old when they traded for them.  And then Yankees fans who pride themselves on history go and boo Carl Pavano at his first start in Yankee Stadium which is always good for the fragile ego (see Rogers, Kenny).Open your eyes and take an honest look the yankees may be in for a couple of years of losing.And being proud of taking 1 of 3 from the twins is loser talk - stuff you would expect to hear in Milwaukee or Seattle.Oh yeah and aren't the Orioles still in first place?

Another challange coming up.  Doug Davis has looked very sharp this year.  He does walk a lot of people from time to time though, so if we can be patient at the plate I think we stand a good chance of staying close in the late innings and scratching out a close one.
