I agree, what a performance by Moose.  Lots of positives to take out of today's game: Moose threw great, A-rod stung the ball, and no shaky defense. I'm still a little bothered by Matsui's slump but its simply that, a slump, all ballplayers go through it and get out of it. Right now we needed a win and we got it, let's carry that over into tomorrow and take a much needed series.

Yea...I'm not to confident about tomorrow with Brown pitching.  However, maybe pitching against Oakland (which doesn't have too great of an offense) could be a good thing.  Hmm...if he wins, he'll gain some confidence....If he loses, then he's fucked.Who am I kidding.  Either way, he's fucked.  Good game today, though.  And I think that Matsui slump will be coming to an end very soon.

I know this is nitpicking, but I always wonder about Torre's lineups. Why is Womack batting second? Sure, he's a reliable bunter and can move up Jeter when he gets on base, but Jeter can do the same thing, and he's a much more dangerous hitter. Bat Womack leadoff and Jeter second.

And I think A-Rod should be batting 3rd, not 5th. That's too far back for him, especially how he's hitting now. Between Matsui, Sheffield and A-Rod, I want A-Rod batting first, then Matsui, then Sheffield.

I'm glad we won today, but I'm not gonna instantly change my mind on Brown. He's still a chump. Wow... so he won his first game since August 5th, 2004... It was bound to happen eventually. And it wasn't exactly an ACE performance. In the 2nd, he was ONE hit away from yet another routine Brown disaster. The A's just sucked too much to capitalize on it. He's just lucky he got out of bases-loaded no-outs. Otherwise, it would've just been the same old shit.

First let me give me 3 pennies about Bob Sheppard singing today, holy crap that man is old. I love hearing his voice everyday, it's oddly comforting but that man doesn't have much time left on this earth and that's sad.  HBox, I can only guess as to why Torre constructs his line-up the way he does but I'll tell you this much. A-Rod is on an absolute tear now and he finally feels comfortable, why would you wanna risk losing that by moving him around in the line-up?

This game has been awful to watch. I really enjoied that commentary on the Yanks, I thought it did an excellent job summing up recent Yankee history. I really enjoyed these two paragraphs: For the building stage of the latest dynasty, the Yankees made moves with a plan, bringing in Paul O’Neill, bringing in Tino Martinez to replace Don Mattingly, etc… for the past two seasons, and even beyond that, the Yankees have had no discernable plan other than to win that day, week, month, year and when that didn’t work, tear up the plan and go in another direction. Consider, if a few thoughts had been given to the future, the 2005 Yankees would be younger, healthier and proba-bly better.   Overall, I think it hit the nail on the head.

THIS is why we shouldve got Beltran.  Bernie needs to be replaced, hes been there for like 15 years and that alone tells you heres near the end even if he had a decent arm and decent avg.  Vlad instead of Sheff was a no-brainer.  Cano needs to play the entire year.  Wang or Wong needs to stay in the rotation although I dont know his age.I dont wanna just win this year, I wanna win 4 out of 5 again.

I'm glad somebody else besides me is thankful for the work Sheff has done during his time in NY. I'll be the first to admit I didn't like him before he became a Yankee because all I kept hearing was that he had a poor work ethic and overall was an unfriendly dude. Well sine he's been in pinstripes I've only seen the exact opposite and I will forever love him because of what he's done for this team.

Vlad has done more, and will do more in the future. Sheffield is on his
last legs, we'll be lucky if we get All-Star performance next year, and
after that I doubt he'll be back. If we signed Vlad, we'd have him for
5-6 years, and a much better defensive outifelder to boot. I'm not
knocking Sheffield, he's done great for us, but Vlad woud have been a
better signing.

Sheff is Paul O'Neill with  A lot more talent. He reminds me so much of Pauly Playing hurt. Hustling. This year twice Jorge loafed it because he thought it was out and had to stay at 1st and cost us a very big run. You never see that from Sheff ever ever.

Guerrero is a little better than Sheff, but not much. They're both two
of the top outfielders, hitting and defensively. The x-factor with Vlad
is the back. Some guys w/bad backs are fine (Randy Johnson) others have
careers cut short (Don Mattingly) Bad backs are very tricky. Sheff went
for half the years & dollars, and I dont want to hear about age
cause he STILL has the fastest hands in Baseball. Harden throws 98 MPH
and he homered off him last night no problem. If anything, he's too
fast, and hits alot of foul ball HR's.   <blockquote />

Unless Sheffield finds the
Barry Bonds fountain of youth, those quick hands are going to slow
soon. I only hope we get through next season before it happens. As for
Vlad's back, it affected him half of one season. The money he went for
was an absolute bargain for his talent. And Sheffield isn't one of the
better defensively outfielders. He;s not bad by any stretch, but Vlad
has the best arm in baseball except maybe Ichiro, and better range.
While Vlad may be marginally better offensively, he;s clearly better
defensively.And you just can't bring up Vlad's back and not
mention Sheffield's shoulder. If you aren't going to count his shoulder
because it hasn't affected his performance, you have to do the same for
Vlad's back. And Sheffield's should problem is pretty serious; he has
had to change the way he plays defense, and he's still playing that way
even though it's better.But I'm also going to be real: Sheffield
is one of the best offensive players in the game. Even though I think
we made the wrong choice, Sheffield is one hell of a player, one I'm
very happy with.

A-Rod continues his tear. I'm really glad to finally see him looking comfortable in a Yankee uniform and performing at the level he's capable of. 
This is his 12th of the season, which puts him alone at the top of the AL, surpassing Tejada.

*EDIT - Just checked the stats on MLB.com. A-Rod now leads in all of baseball in the HR category, above Glaus and Milton Bradley.

And hell yeah, that was a sweet rip over the center field wall by Jeter.

Well, Mojo... Consider the fact that their schedule the last 8 games has consisted of Oakland, Seattle, and more Oakland... and coming up tomorrow, more Seattle. I'm certainly not complaining. I couldn't have asked for more after the all time low they hit. But I'm not gonna celebrate until they can play like this against the Orioles and Red Sox... hell, even the Blue Jays.

I'm just jealous since the Cubs barely managed to scratch out of their own slump and are still playing like a bunch of bitches.  We've got FIVE potential monster hitters on the team and three are underperforming like crazy the last couple of weeks and two are longterm DL.  The rest of the limeup are hitting and getting on base, but the supposed big hitters aren't doing their job and getting them home.

Bottom line is, I wore my Yankee hat around the streets of Boston, day in and day out... I proudly dealt with the heckles, whether the Yankees were playing well, or embarassing themselves. I watch every last out, whether they're winning by 20 or receiving an absolute pounding. So naturally, it kills me to see them playing the way they were. But if something as simple as creating a sarcastic thread on a message board nullifies all of that, then perhaps I am not a true fan.

I enjoyed the Steinbrenner piece. Its not exactly Journalism at its
best, though I knew that the minute they put it in the "Centerstage"
show, which is all puff pieces. Though the whole network is just a
promotional arm of the team. But thats OK, everybody kills the Yanks,
so its nice to get THEIR side once in a while. Same goes for George. 
But I learned-He had a VERY complicated, screwed up relationship with his Dad. And despite that, he still loves him alot. -He's
really, actually a very hokey guy. I've heard him talk for years about
"winning for the NY fans" and I always thought it was BS. But he really
believes it. Like he feels a big responsibility to win for us. And if
he doesn't, he's let us down. I was really surprised at that.

WOW... A-Rod OWNZ Ledezma's vagina. He's faced the guy 4 times in his career, and has homered in ALL 4 at-bats... 2 of which were hit in the first 4 innings of tonight's game. A-Rod is really a different player than the A-Rod we had last year. He's been on a tear for several weeks and continues to look amazing at the plate. He's adding to his leads in the majors in RBIs and HRs. I'm happy to see him comfortable in a Yankee uniform. Let's just hope he can do it in October.
 
 
Cano making some nice plays at 2nd. 
Good to see Giambi contribute something. 
Bernie continues to prove he's got some swing left. 
 And MOOSE having YET another SOLID outing. 5 shut-out innings thus far. He's the best, most consistent guy in our rotation. A real professional. 
 
Nothing but positives coming out of tonight's game. Of course the 10-game streak got the team out of their massive slump, but tonight, they're doing a great job of keeping the momentum going strong.

I REALLY like what we've seen from this Wang guy so far. He's pitched some great outings and has some GOOD stuff, especially his off-speed pitches. Jarret Wright can stay on the DL forever, for all I care.

Soriano was dealt for a better player at the same age as he is. And Nick Johnson got dealt for which it looked like at the time a top young Sp. In Javy. And Rondell White..... I don't know if he was ever considered that high of a chip.And oh yea Mr Wang is damn good. He must under no circumstances be dealt for Clemens. If RJ is RJ or even close. And Muss and Pavano continue to pitch this well. Then we do not need Clemens at all.

Rondell White was drafted by the Expos. We signed him when he was 30 and he stunk in NY.We traded Soriano for a top 5 player in the game. That was a fucking great trade, an example where we actually made out well.Nick
Johnson and Juan Rivera for Javy Vazquez was a steal. Look at what
Vazquez is doing now. That's what we thought we were getting, what we
got for the first few months last year.Now, Claussen for Boone?

HBox your right about Brown Pitching well. But i will never forgive him for killing Game 7 for us by going out there when he knew he had nothing. And Joe and Mel Asked him please tell us if your not feeling good this is immensely important. But he went out anyway and allowed the biggest choke in history be completed. By getting Bombed before we could even grab a bat.

I hate Brown too, but despite all he hasn't cone
for the Yanks, he's still contributed more than Proctor and Crosby.I
still remember when the Yanks made the Ventura trade, and how Crosby
got hot right after we gave him some playing time and how Proctor could
throw in he upper 90s.  I remember the Yanks announcers saying how
we robbed the Dodgers for a mediocre Robin Ventura.Then we turn
around and give them Brazoban. Proctor sucks and Crosby is an end of
the bench guy who I'm not even sure is on the major league roster now.
That turned out swell.

Womack being called out was fuckin' bullshit man. The score would be at least 3-3 if they hadn't called him out when he was clearly safe. The replays prove it.

And if Giambi doesn't find a way to get something going by July, I think it'll be time to officially call his career dead. He's a sad story, and that's it. He was once a star with a lot of promise, turned out he was doing the 'roids, and it was downhill from there. When his career officially ends, TV productions that review his story will have a lot of black and white, inverted black and white, and slow motion.
