Well, if you have a Yankee fan making the rules, then no one gets to talk except Yankee fans.  I'm just pointing out the hipocracy in mocking the Cardinals for getting beaten in the series by the Red Sox when you're own team suffered the most devastating postseason loss in history to the very same team.

Alright, but that doesnt change the fact that you're team is
responsible for the BIGGEST choke in ALCS history. And that doesnt
change the fact that the Cards made it last year, and will win it this

It was a huge choke but still 26 titles... Hey,
thats great, more power to you. But the 26 titles that youve piled up
in the last 100 or so years still dont change the fact that the Cards
are takin it this year, and the Yankees will be lucky to get past any
of the 4 AL West teams and/or Boston.

We have enough Money in the bank where we can take that loss... It was a huge choke but still 26 titles... Its like Bill Gates Losing 50 mil. Sure it would sting him. But no big deal when he turns around and see's 90 more billion. So that Red Sox loss didn't hurt at all.  Riiiiiiiiight...

I think Id trust both Haren and Blanton to pitch Game 3...but thats
just me. I think Texas is solid even though its lacking a pitching
staff just like Anaheim. I think Seattles staff is solid with a fairly
good offense behind them, nevertheless I consider them the worst team
in that division.

How is this possible?AJ, as a Red Sox fan you have to know that's an argument you absolutely cannot win, not when the vast majority of the Red Sox Nation has been chanting "Yankees Suck" following Yankee championships for year.  And it doesn't even have to be at a baseball game, that chant can break out at football games, political conventions, or church functions in Boston, whether the Yankees are in 1st place or last.  I understand the point of your post, but if you look at that line, it does sound a little funny.

time I heard the Mets still played in New York, and therfore are no
exception. However Glavine really isnt a good example. He isnt exactly
a "Met". He has been on the team for 2 years and if/when he goes into
the HOF, hes gonna wear a Braves hat. Mariano Rivera has spent his
entire career with the Yankees, put up great numbers, and was a large
part of all their WS wins in the mid-late ninties. And yet, after a
couple bad outings he gets booed...thats like Met fans booing Tom
Seaver off the mound a week after he pitched a no hitter. Face it, you
arent gonna win every game, even if you do have a $200M+ payroll. And
if you dont blame a loss on one guy, youll blame it on another...

First of all, every YANKEE fan knows its not just a few bad outings,
its been going on since mid last year, including the playoffs. And I
think it came to a peak with the way he not only blew this save but
fell apart afterwards. Gave up 5 runs. The wheels came off. Never seen
that happen to Mo. Torre had to come get him, he was so bad. I NEVER
remember that happening before. The fact of the matter is MO is held to
a very high standard, one that HE'S established. As are the Yanks.
That's what non-Yankee fans just dont get. Would I boo him? No.
Because he's meant too much to the franchise for too long. But he has
recieved EVERY accolade imaginable for his whole career. All deserved.
But if you want to take the bows, when you suck, take the heat. Its
only fair. And people who want to tell you your not allowed to boo (like
Michael Kay) sound like the cry babies to me. They love the praise, but
cant stand ONE boo.

Mikey, if Bruce Chen's for real, I'd pick your Orioles ahead of the
Red Sox this year for the Wild Card. Bernie Williams said he was
throwing the fastball and change with the exact same motion. You can
get  lot of guys out doing that, and their Team ERA is down 1
point since Ray Miller got on board mid last year. Plus you have some
interesting young arms. 
Boston has pitching problems. Wells has been awful, and he's
yet to pitch in Fenway, which is one of his worst ballparks to pitch in
(He's a Lefty fly ball pitcher).  And Matt Clement is a career
sub-500 pitcher. We'll see what happens when Schilling gets back, but I
think you guys have as much or more pitching than they do, and you can
score runs.

There was no way I thought we were walking out of Fenway with a win last night. Not because of all the World Series garbage, but because Wakefield (with the exception of Boone) is an absolute Yankee Killer. I feel we have a better chance beating Schilling on any given night than Wakefield, nobody in the lineup can hit the knuckler.

Jeter has the best numbers on the team off Wakefield. Everyone on
the team has been his bitch for the last few years, except Derek, Tino
also has good numbers off of him. The Yanks started having big
trouble with him after they lost all their solid contact hitters and
picked up power hitters that overswing at the knuckler and his BP
fastball then pop it up or ground it out weakly. I agree that if
Bruce Chen can put together a good season the O's will be a
force, if Ponson pitches to half his ability, he, Rodrigo Lopez and
Chen would be a nice 1,2,3. They also have a kid named Cabrera
(Daniel?) I watched him pitch against the Yanks a few times last year
and he had some nasty shit. I'm not sure if he is in the rotation
but I think he'll be good. And then Matt Riley and Eric DuBose
aren't bad either, they have a strong lineup, young pitching and a
smart manager, dangerous combination.

I watched the game on NESN here in Boston, and even the biased, lopsided Red Sox announcers agreed that the fan was being out of line. He clearly wasn't going for the ball, and even if he was, he was breaking the rules. Sheff got hit in the face by this drunk Sox fan stereotype, so he cocked his arm back to scare the guy, but actually had enough restraint to hold himself back... which is more than you can say about any cheapshot Red Sock fan.

And please don't overlook the fact that another trashy Boston fan tossed an entire beer on Sheffield... which, if you can remember that far back, is the same action that incited the biggest brawl in NBA history.

I saw the guy catch Sheffield with an elbow. Berman tried to say it
was unintentional a thousand times. Doesn't make it so, Boomer. I
rewinded it on TIVO a bunch of times and it looks like the guy threw it intentionally The guy
in the Gap shirt throwing the beer on the other hand is without question a complete and
total douchebag. 
 I'm shocked that the media
seems to want to protect Sheffield and deflect any blame on his part
for retaliating (hitting the guy with his glove). I don't think he should be punished but it's wierd to
see a player do something like that and not get jumped on by the media.

to distract him, wave his arm and maybe make sheff miss the ball. he
ended up catching sheff on accident, who initially tried to make the guy
eat his glove. was the guy being a dick, absolutely,
was sheffield a dick, almost, but he shouldnt have taken that half
swing either. they are both wrong, but its not a big deal, nobody tried
to hurt anybody else. the guy is lucky too, the last person you want with rage at you is someone who has roid rage

He said he and Donnie worked on footwork alot. The way he was moving his feet before and during the swing. He said he feels much more comfortable because of it. His swing was much slower because of it so he couldn't hit the fastball that well... Lets see if he keeps it up

I got to watch last night's game on TV down here because it was Tampa Bay and they broadcast it on cable. What a great game to watch. I know it was against the D'rays but right now a win is a win and the Yanks certainly needed one. Now let's hope Unit can parlay this momentum into another W tonight and hopefully we'll finally get this machine rolling.  By the way, Tino's grand slam last night gave me wood.

It's definitley accurate to say the Devil Rays shouldn't be considered top tier opponents. However, Arod didn't just batter bad pitching, the double which was about to go over the wall in opposite field for his third homerun was hit off Danys Baez. Baez is Tampa Bay's closer and he's a pretty hot commodity in the league right now, countless teams wanna trade for this guy.As far as the game, I think the most important thing was Arod. To me, all of last night he looked like the guy in Texas I used to fear. If anyone watched the last game of the Baltimore series, you could also see this coming from him.

Not joking. Leiber was our BEST starter at the end of last season, with the exception of maybe Mussina. Leiber also OWNED the Red Sox in his last 3 or 4 outings against them, and he's started this season 4-0 with the Phillies. Losing him was the biggest mistake we made this off-season. And you know what? Who gives a shit if we have Halsey pitching 5th. You don't take 5 starters into the post-season anyway.
 
Kevin Brown is a peice of shit, so ANYONE is better than him... ANYONE. And there's no question Leiber is better than Wright.
 
I know it's still considered early, but I'm on the verge of panic if this shit keeps up any longer.

Wright's 2001 surgery was his second in two years, having had his
labrum and rotator cuff repaired in 2000. He said he hasn't had any
problems with his shoulder all season, making Saturday's developments

The Yankees will call up right-hander Colter Bean, a reliever, for
Sunday's game. Bean, who is 1-0 in seven games with Triple-A Columbus
this season, hasn't allowed a run in 8 1/3 innings. He has given up
just two hits and one walk, striking out 14 batters. 

"He's been pitching the best right now," Cashman said, "so that's the guy we'll be looking to."


Bean will likely stay with New York until Saturday, when Wright's spot
in the rotation falls. At that point, the team will probably call on
right-hander Chien Ming Wang, who is 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA for Columbus

I'm certainly not happy Wright got hut, but I'm actually quite excited about Wang. This kid was a very big prospect for the Yankees until two years ago when he had to have surgery. He has, however, since bounced back and is back to his normal velocity and has been flying through the minors. He's a bit older I believe around 27, which still is not bad at all. His velocity is able to hit up to 97 mph from the scouting reports I have read on him, but the mid 90s is usually the norm. Out of all Yankee pitchers he had the best spring, so at the very least Wang might be able to up his value further and provide the Yankees with a valuable chip for the trading deadline.

Yes Davios is right. In my opinion one of the most overrated GM'S in the HISTORY OF SPORTS. Brian Cashman. KILLED our Minors which in 1998 when he took over was rated #2 by Baseball America. He took over a ready made team by Stick Micheal and has basically done a horrible job at making deals. I yes i know he had to make deals But he has made terrible deals. Like the Neagle Deal He gave up 5 guys for him. And oh by the way if he had waited a couple weeks that year. He easily could of had Schilling for that same package. He does that awful Aaron Boone Deal which he gives up the only Sp Prospect we had that was worth anything and a Lefty at that. If we still had him last July 31st. RJ would have been A Yankee and The Redsox would have never been allowed to make that Comeback. So that is 2 titles that he lost for us by making the wrong deals. 2001 title by not getting Schilling in 2000 because he made an awful deal before he became available. And last year By not being able to get RJ Because he cleaned out the Minors. Like Davios said our A to AA is ranked Very high. But its going to take years for us to see anything from that. I remember last year during the ALCS watching Lieber and yeah, he was pretty good and fun to watch.Fast
Forward to now. I really underestimated how good Jon Leiber can be. So
far he is 4 - 0 and really fun to watch and by far the only bright spot
on the Floundering Phillies.I was all nervous we were getting someone
old and now it looks like we have gotten a stopper. So if he can win us
a game, each start out, we will be 33 - 129. Looks like a fun
year.

What a difference a day makes. I feel much better now that Randy
looks like Randy again. With him and Pavano, we have two solid
starters. With Brown and Mussina, I'll take my chances and hope we
score runs. But this takes alot of pressure off everyone to have RJ
pitch like an ace. We should be able to win more than we lose with
those two at the top.  Wright out 4-6 weeks (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2045145)Believe it or not, its good news. Doesn't require surgery. Explains why he's been lousy. If Moose and Brown step it up, you'll barely miss him. With off days, they'll skip the 5th starter whenever possible.  I actually feel better today than I have all season.

Hopefully Brown and Mussina will manage to salvage the series.

The Duke did not slip my mind because the Duke is old and prone to injury. He missed half the playoffs because of a tired arm. Keeping Leiber, on the other hand, would've been a good move for the future.

It was cold as balls in the Stadium last night, but seeing A-Rod go off (like the top-five player in the game that he is) certainly warmed the cockles of my heart.On a side note, they must have sold a TON of advanced tickets this year, because I don't think I've ever seen a random Monday night game in April where the left field bleachers were open.  According to the attendance announcement, 36,500 tickets were sold for last night.  I don't know if rainouts will play as much of a part as they did last year, but they should easily hit 3.5+ million fans again.

The Kid looked good today, we might be OK for at least his first
time around the league. But were still having a bitch of a time scoring
runs, even against weak pitching. The BIG gaping holes in the lineup are#1-Giambi#2-Posada#3-Tino#4-Bernie (hate to say it) 
 Both Bernie and Giambi have always got off to slow
starts, so its tough to say if they're done at this point.  At
some point, Torre will sit Giambi for this kid Phillips, who he loves.
And Posada may just be done. He's at about that age/games played where
it hits catchers. Plus I NEVER liked him as a player.

I don't consider Tino a weak spot in the lineup, he isn't the Tino of '98 and we knew that when we got him. Jorge, Bernie and Giambi are useless right now.

I'm changing my expectations for this team. Its a bad group, one
that cant get its shit together. It happens. This is the worlds most
expensive .500 (or below) team. It's like 1965. Everybody got old/broke
down at the same time, and the holes are too big to expect to win much.
 
The Done List 
Giambi (over done) 
Mike Stanton (well done) 
Posada (Dumb done) 
Mussina (smart done) 
Tino Martinez (just done) 
Just when you think the hitters show signs of snapping out of
it, the bullpen collapses. Then they get a well pitched game, and cant
score a run. Bad team. Sucks because after last years collapse
I was REALLY looking foward to this season, especially playing the Red
Sox. And I'll still watch them Snoogans, but I'm not gonna plan my day
around it like I've been doing. They're on, I'll watch. Got something
to do, I wont.  Stanton wont be around very long if they
need the roster spot. The rest of them they're stuck with. Untradable.
Torre will manage this season, but his coaches wont make it to the
All-Star break. And Torre wont be managing here next year. I done care
what George owes him. He wont bring him back if this team finishes
below .500

 Yes, absolutely. Though some coaches would go. That's not what I'm talking about. Their winning pct right now is .400. That projects to a 66-96 year.    He wouldn't survive that. NO ONE would. Not while George is alive.

I think they are just doig this so they ca maybe deal for a LF. But if they had gotten Beltran this would not be a problem. Idiot  Cashman. Yea yea you haters are going to say payroll blah balh. But we needed Beltran our CF is old and done and he was the best CF in baseball and there is not going to be any CF available for a Long time. In successive years we past on 2 of the best Young OF in the game in Vlad and Carlos. I said it before and i say it again Cashman sucks balls.
