The article plays it off like this is going to be some way for DeNiro to get back into the good graces of the film critics after movies like Rocky And Bullwinkle and that one with eddie murphy. He obviously does these for the paydays.
But that is what taxi driver II is going to be. that movie is a classic, people still love and watch it. its just going to be a shitty sequal to an awesome movie all for a payday (for DeNiro and Scorsese)

I thought DeNiro forgot how to be a decent actor a few years back.
This is proof I was right.
Way to fuck up one of the greatest movies ever made, jackasses!
But...I highly doubt this is true. As much of an idiot as DeNiro is, Scorsese never strikes me as the kind of filmmaker who'd stoop to this. If it was somehow made, he'd have nothing to do with it.

I'll take Taxi Driver ll over Bullwinkle ll, Fokkers lll, Analyze The Other, and even Godfather lV. I want a mohawk on his head and a mirror scene:

Bring back a banged out Jodi Foster and drug dealer Sport Matthew and it'll be ALL GOOD!

Hey - just in time for the 30th anniversary (2006), Robert Deniro, Jodie Foster, and Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's LEMO DRIVER
Pfffft.
Scorsese never strikes me as the kind of filmmaker who'd stoop to this. If it was somehow made, he'd have nothing to do with it.
Well, he has done one sequel in his career - just not to one of his films ("The Color of Money"), and is there anything more hack in the world than Michael Jackson's "Bad"?

The last movie of his I enjoyed, and that it didn't seem like he was sleepwalking through, was "Cop Land"...and he was in that for, what, 20 minutes?
The guy's done. Which is sad, because he stars in at least half a dozen of my favorite films of all time.

they both (especially) seem to have become caricatures of their earlier selves ...
i'd say deniro is slightly more capable of having another great movie role in his career ... pacino overacts way too much, better suited for the stage ...

would you say deniro is a better actor than Pacino?
Oh no, not this argument again.
Pacino's career has been much more diverse, and he has convincingly played a wider range of charecters.
Deniro has about 3-4 styles that he brings to his roles. Each of which he does well, some better than others.
Pacino is an Actor's actor, which is why he loses people sometimes. I know he's done some over the top charecters in recent years. He's a big fan of live stage and Shakespeare (Looking for Richard). Look at his ENTIRE catalog, though. Many very understated roles (Godfather/Micheal Deerfield/Donnie Brasco), many over the top (Scarface/Scent of a Woman/Devils Advocate/Heat), and alot in between (Sea of love/Cruising/Frankie and Johnny). Look at his Filmography, alot of great films.
Deniro is a more workman actor, who never ventures off very far in artistic directions. Look at his filmography. 1973-1995 some of the best films ever made, 1995-today alot more that should have never been made.
Deniro has a "Deniro" role. You think of him acting a certain way in many films.
There is no "Pacino" role. Memorable ones, but no one type done in 10 different films. He's plays each charecter as the story calls for it to be played.
Who's the better Actor? Pacino.

In a fight I think I could take Pacino, even in his prime. It wouldn't be easy, but I'd win.
Bobby D. would probably kick my ass.
Hoffman I could take with one hand behind my back.

I think DeNiro's "classic" movies are better, but overall, unless he's playing some kind of sociopath, Bobby D.'s range isn't THAT huge. He's just that good at playing a nutjob/street thug/criminal.
Like Bulldog said, Pacino's got range that runs laps around DeNiro. He's still making great performances, with a few caricature-packed clunkers. But look at his newest movie...his performance as Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice" is fantastic. Really quiet and understated.
