View Full Version : Desecration of the American Flag . . .

saw some pictures on drudge which were fairly disturbing to me, flag burnings mainly, i myself can tolerate seeing a flag upside down, as it is the international sign of distress, in the pictures i saw of this the people seemed to be doing it in a somewhat respectful manner, ive always interpreted the flag to be a sign of the people, and i just dont understand how one protestor can march with a fake coffin with a flag draped over it, and the protestor next to them can burn that same flag, our ancestors fought and died under that flag, so some college kid with a day off, can burn it, the course of our governing bodies can change, but the soldiers who march under it will stay the same, they will die for their flag, so that others may burn it

Many of the people hung up on flag burning don't know all of the official flag codes to begin with, and routinely "disrespect" it during their quests to show how they are more patriotic than anyone else.
We are the ONLY nation in the world that pledges allegiance to a FLAG - and, as R&F have pointed out before, only children and new citizens are required to say it.

Let's compromise: hand the protestors faded and/or tattered flags to burn.

I think it's disgsusting to burn the flag. Do people have the right? Yes. Would I ever burn the flag in protest? No.
Symbols mean a great deal in society. The American flag, to me, is the symbol of freedom. The symbol of freedom and all the brave souls that fought and that are fighting to keep this country free.

If you're going to voice your opinions, be prepared to DEFEND them. Dont get in a huff because someone disagrees with you. It doesn't speak well of your ability to debate, or your overall intellectual curiosity.
BTW Respect is EARNED where I come from

Symbolism over substance.
That flag represents the Country, which is governed by our Constitution. The Constitution PROTECTS that activity. You might want to read it sometime. I have. Many times.
You salute a flag and dont even understand what the Country stands for.

What wrong with a symbolism?
Why have you repeatedly read the Constitution?
Is there any easy recipes for lemon meringue pie?

Torker, I do get a kick out of your posts.
Its symbolism over substance to salute a flag and not understand what it represents.
The Constitution is the document that expresses what we're all about as a country.
I've read the thing because some nights I just cant think of anyone to spank to.
Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie
This is the pie for Lemon Meringue Pie lovers.
* 1-1/4 cups sugar
* 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1-1/2 cups water
* 3 eggs, separated
* zest from 1 medium lemon
* juice from 1-1/2 medium lemons
* 1 tablespoon butter
* 1 baked, cooled 9-inch pie crust
Preheat oven to 350øF.
Combine the sugar, flour, salt and water in a heavy saucepan. Stir constantly over medium-high heat until mixture boils. Boil, stirring constantly and vigorously, for 1 minute. (A long-handled spoon to stir with really helps here to get you back from the heat.) Remove from heat.
Slightly beat the egg yolks in a bowl with a fork. Mix half the boiled mixture with the egg yolks. Then put the egg yolk mixture back into the pan with the boiled ingredients, and cook for 1 more minute, stirring constantly and, again, vigorously. Remove from heat, and add the butter.
Add the lemon zest and lemon juice. Stir to mix thoroughly.
Pour into cooled, baked 9-inch pie crust and top with meringue (recipes follow), sealing meringue to edge of pastry. Bake in a 350øF oven 12 to 15 minutes or until nicely browned.
Meringue
* 3 egg whites, at room temperature
* 6 tablespoons sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Beat the egg whites at high speed with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. With mixer running, add the cream of tartar, then gradually add the sugar, a tablespoon at a time, and beat until stiff peaks form. Beat in the vanilla.
Pile atop pie, and bake at 350øF for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Be sure to seal the meringue to the pastry edge when spreading it on your pie. To minimize "weeping", spread the meringue on the pie filling while the filling is hot. Also, remember that meringue pies cut better with a wet knife blade.
Standard Pie Pastry-Fuck this, just buy a pie shell from the supermarket.

so if the flag represents our constitution, then you could say our flag represents the right to assemble, so why burn it when you assemble?
