Dude, you need to step back and look at the big picture here.

Not only is he, by appearing, helping to raise money, but he's also giving us a chance to see one of the greatest athletes of all time back in the spotlight again. Yes he was promoting his movie party, but who cares? Just by showing up, he's getting people who like his movies and music to call in and donate.

He's become close with Ali, as Ikeaboy said, and he's become close w/Will Smith too. It's not like he came out and sang "wild wild west".

You can't nitpick everything, especially when it was for a good cause.

in all reality the biggest stars were on the phone if you think about it, and if someone tells me that Julia Roberts and ben stiller are bigger than Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino...get me the sharp knife.

As for Ali/Smith together it makes sense. I mean who else there would Ali "trust" or feel comfortable with. And, as for cinema promotion, it did show that Will doesn't just blow off Ali once the movie is over.

I don't think a movie with Will Smith needs promotion. Especially if it's about Muhammad Ali. He just did it to help people. Wild Wild West sucked, but it still made money.

I agree with IkeaBoy... I just found the trailer on Yahoo! and it looks like it's going to be good. I mean they didn't pick Wil Smith to play Ali just because he's a popular black actor... Wil actually declined the offer at first... it wasn't until Ali called him personally that Wil agreed to do the movie!
