View Full Version : Cabelvision HDTV
We just bought an HDTV on Saturday, now I think i need to switch from my regular digital cable to the HDTV box. Anyone have this already? Is it worth waiting for the installation guy?
Edit: Fucking Title Typos.

I'm calling for my HD box this week. All I am expecting to to is swap out the analog box, and run an s-video connection to the new set.
More than likely, the tech will do this for me.

so does that mean that it was

I already have a digital box. The picture is shitty on the new TV, even with the S-video cable. They give you an entirely new HDTV box for the HDTV service.

They use HD component cables to hook up from their HDTV settop boxes. And oh is it worth it. INHD is a channel that plays nothing but high-resolution HD programs, and other than the occasional sports games it's all crap. But I spent hours just gwaking at the picture. Even more stunning than the resoultion is the bright vibrant colors.
It costs nothing extra. The picture is amazing. Get them to come before this weekend; you will want to see the playoff games in HD.
EDIT: Here are the HD channels we currently get:
INHD
NBC 4 NY HD
ABC 7 NY HD
FOX 5 NY HD
CBS 2 NY HD
Thirteen HD
MSG HD
Fox Sports NY HD
ESPN HD
Starz HD
Universal HD
HBO HD

I just got something in the mail from Cablevision. They are offering HDTV DVRs now. They are $9.95 a month, and store 24 hours of HD programming and 110 hours of standard. So if you are into Tivo type stuff, that seems like a good deal.

I've had the HD with Comcast down here in the Philly area since June and the HD is truly amazing.
The picture that is.
I have had a few audio glitches with the NBC HD. I watched Committed last week in HD and the first segment there was an echo on the audio feed. ANNOYING! Then, after the commercial break the audio was on about a 2 second delay.
INHD was really cool cause over the summer I got about a Red Sox game per week and a Padres game per week. The games were broadcast with the Sox and Padres home team announceteam. Some of the concerts and such that INHD has are also really nice.
ESPN and ABC HD have by far the best HD picture and sound. The NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Finals were superb.
FOX has been pretty good as well witht heir football which pretty much all games have been in HD this season. CBS is a bit selective with their HD so only a handful of the games have come through HD. Most of the rest were only really good digital picture.
I highly recommend running the HD Component Cables to your set as to me at least, they provide the best possible picture.
We also get the Comcast SportsNet HD which is pretty killer as well.
I thought the HD was going to look like garbage cause I have a Panasonic 47" 16:9 Resolution Projection Screen HDTV but much to my delight, things were just perfect.
