Does anyone know if there is a way legally to request to have your employer remove your ssn# from appearing on your paycheck. My company was taken over about a year ago, and my old company never put it the number on my old checks. However this week is the first week I've gotten a paycheck from the new company, and these new checks have the social on it.
I'd like to request that it be removed for personal security and privacy purposes, so I'm curious if there is any rights that I have to make this kind of request. I guess it's a question of the law, if anyone is familiar with this, please let me know.

as an aisde rant - wtf is up with SSN's? The government refuses to use that as a national identification, partly due to problems in the system and duplicate numbers, partly due to who knows what, but every time you need to identify yourself, the first thing they ask for is your SSN?
WTF?
ok rant over - sorry dude can't help you - go talk to HR. The check print is probably outsourced anyway...

I don't think it's really a legal issue. I think your company just uses your SSN as an ID# incase there are 2 John Smith's working for the company. Maybe you could get payroll to change it.

My company does it because that is also used as our employee #, so it's how we're identified within the company.
People have asked to have it removed, but can only have it done so at the loss of any benefits gained by using that ID #, which is basically everything.
