Going by the trailers, you'd probably think this movie is your typical Sandler comedy about a harried dad with two crazy kids.

Wrong - it couldn't be further from the truth.

In fact, you don't see Sandler in this movie until about 15 minutes in. Although Sandler is a main character in this movie, he is not the focus.

That being said, "Spanglish" is an interesting portrait of relationships - mainly between mothers and daughters, and other family issues.

I can't get too in-depth without spoiling the movie, but the movie is narrated by Cristina, the daughter of a Mexican played by Paz Vega. Cristina and her mother emigrate to the US, where Flor (Cristina's mom) takes a housekeeping job with the Closkeys - a rich Southern California family with a hyper mother, an alcoholic grandmother, and a neurotic but lovable father (Sandler).

It's a warm, funny, and touching movie. But it's NOT your typical Sandler comedy. However, it's not a trainwreck like Punch Drunk Love was either. Adam does have some dramatic chops, but he's not Robin Williams yet.

I also want to give Paz Vega some statue of liberty hair, but that's besides the point.

PDL was a "trainwreck?"

Huh.

Trainwrecks RULE.

Punch Drunk Love was a great film. Sandler has no "chops" of any kind But can get lucky to be in a good/okay film that isn't a Happy Madison movie (His only two good "silly comedies" Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison)

Wait. Hold on a second. Happy Gilmore was awesome, but you rate Billy Madison over the Waterboy?

I'd rate "Billy Madison" over ANY of his "specialty" comedies.

"The Waterboy" is infinitely forgettable. That's the movie where he decided he had to have a "funny"/retarded voice for his characters.

Bullshit. Waterboy was the sum of all parts. Henry Winkler owned in that. So did the assistant coach.

Unfortunately, once you get past the central conceit of the movie, it's not very funny.

Spanglish looks atrocious and worst of all sappy. I'm a fan of actors trying to stretch themselves, but Christ, go back to being a drunk retard Adam, we'll all love you again.

I can't believe we've discovered someone who will actually and willingly watch "The Waterboy" over "Billy Madison."

I honestly cannot wrap my brain around that.

Did any of you see Eight Crazy Nights? No you didn't. Do you want to know why?

BECAUSE IT'S THE WORST FUCKING MOVIE EVER MADE!

It makes The Waterboy look like the funniest thing on earth.

Tea Leoni was quite the bit of hotness on Late Night the other night. I'd still hit it.

I won't be seeing this film because of Adam Sandler. Put either him, Bruce Willis or Tom Hanks in a movie and it's instant cinema kryptonite for me.

I definitely rate Happy Gilmore over any of his other films as his funniest and best. Billy Madison is a close second, then again Norm MacDonald and Steve Buschemi were in Billy Madison...hmmmmmm
