The Godfather of Soul has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Not exactly a shock (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=7&u=/ap/20041210/ap_on_en_mu/people_james_brown), but the man deserves a thread.

Love him or not, James Brown is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Alot of today's music wouldn't exist without him. Chili Peppers, most Rap, Fishbone etc. All trace back to him. Listen to "Papa Dont Take no Mess"(live) and tell me you dont get mesmerized. I guess now people only know him for beating up his various wives. BTW So did Miles Davis, Picasso and Kurt Cobain. I wish the man well. Cancer is no fuckin joke.

I read the news today, oh boy

James Brown (http://breakingnews.iol.ie/entertainment/story.asp?j=127614442&p=yz76y5y48) had a successful operation to remove the cancer. As he walked out of the clinic to his limousine, Brown was wearing sunglasses, a hat and a big smile. "I feel good," he said.

Doesn't mean shit. They ALWAYS say the operation was successful. Means they took out what they wanted to and the patient isn't dead yet. He's not out of trouble by a long shot.

The first part of the article reads

"Mr Brown has successfully undergone a localised prostate cancer procedure," said Dr James Bennett, his urologist. "We expect a full recovery."


That's a definite, but it never hurts to be hopeful.
