yeah i can just see terrorists sitting on the runways trying to aim a laser dot at a descending aircraft in the hope that the tiny beam will directly hit the pilot in the eye long enough to incapacitate his sight...then moving over to the co-pilot and doing the same to him...

It's no more silly than someone suggesting terrorists might use MANPADS (Man-Portable Air Defense System) to down an airliner.

This is probably just a case where someone was thinking up potential terrorist attack methods. There IS precendent here (sort of). In 2001, an Israeli jet narrowly missed being struck by a missile fired from the ground as it took off from Kenya. And there have been instances where commercial and military pilots have claimed to have been intentionally blinded in flight (see here) (http://washingtontimes.com/national/20040928-111356-3924r.htm) Lasers have been considered for use as non-lethal weapons.

actually this has been a serious threat for over two years now. this is more of a concern to DHS than shoulder launched missiles.

btw I tipped off the FBI on those clowns last night after I read about the lasers being shot at the planes.

Now the guy on that website is no longer selling them.


Unfortunately, we have decided
to STOP selling these lasers.
Too many people have been doing
stupid things with lasers recently. I
can't sleep at night thinking that
