Also on the topic of the EMP device...which depiction of its' power was correct:
- 24, where it knocked out electronics for an 8 block radius but a human 10 feet away was unscathed because he was behind a steel door?
or
- Ocean's Eleven where it caused the steel frame of the Ford Econoline van that it was contained in to buckle & nearly fold itself in half?

Actually, an EMP could theoretically do both. If it's a strong enough magnet, it could suck in whatever contains it, but there would be electromagnetic interference with all nearby electronics. If strong enough, wipe the chips/hard drives/etc.

Of course, I hope Jack wasn't planning to have a second child after being at ground zero of an EMP pulse.

Dumb question. If you have a uterus and you work at CTU, does your IQ and social skills immediately erode?

1) Chloe - fired because of insubordination

2) Marianne - treason, then killed.

3) Driscoll - made several bad decisions, was undermined several times, was a complete bitch, and then daughter committed suicide and she tried to work though it.

4) Michelle - lets her pride get in the way of agreeing with Tony's plan, because common sense dictates that Jack and Paul would be very close to the McClendon-Forrester building at a 15-minute mile pace. Because of this, those decisions led to Paul getting shot.

5) Audrey - Doesn't like the dark side of Jack's job, even though Jack told her to leave the room when he tortured Paul - and does Audrey know what her own father allowed to happen to her brother?

I missed a part of an episode earlier in the season. What happened to that guy?

They tortured him twice - first time, then released him when Heller and Audrey were freed, then Heller told them to torture him again when he thought he wasn't being completely upfront.

I believe they let him go when they couldn't get any more information out of him.

The kid kept rambling about his "personal life", so I'm guessing the fact that he was a drug user and/or gay was probably edited out of the show because of time restraints.

Sarah - made a backend deal with the FORMER director of CTU, and the deal was made only because Driscoll wanted to keep tabs on Tony and Jack. She then proceeds to bitch out the new director of CTU about her EXTORTION - and that's what it is, kids - during a moment of national crisis.

It's a stretch, but I guess you could write it off by saying that the reason the guard who was checking the car did that double-take of the back seat because he saw something out of the corner of his eye, for example, the guy rolling between the back seat & trunk through the split seats. Now, how he did it without rocking the car in the least, that's where you have to suspend disbelief.

He didn't look like a terrorist, enjoys a bit too many american sweets.

The trunk things still bothers me, but there is so much on the show that doesn't make sense I shouldn't worry about that. He didn't look like he was under the seat, it looked like he came out from the trunk, Maybe that rolling thing would be possible.

One other nitpick. How fucking fast do Tony and Chole drive? they seemed to be able to get someplace FAST when called by Jack/Michelle.

The trunk thing was a little strange. I guess there was a hidden compartment or something.
What REALLY bothered me was when they pulled the ol' switcheroo in the tunnel.
The terrorists who had Jack were being followed by CTU agents. YES...they were told not to tail them too closely but, they were RIGHT F'CKING THERE! How did they NOT see all the commotion and switching in front of them in that tunnel.
Maybe they wouldn't have been able to tell exactly which vehicle Jack got switched to but, at the very least, they should/woulda been able to see that SOMETHING went down.
That was lame.

Also...
I found it odd that Jack had NO REACTION when he saw Michelle back at CTU. He didn't even react like he knew who she was, much less...suprised to see her back in charge of CTU.

Finally...
Is it me or, has this show kinda given up on the "realtime" gimmick? When people need to be somewhere in 2 mins (IE: Michelle back at CTU or Tony to the rescue or Chloe back at her workstation, etc etc) they almost seem to materialize right where they need to be. Hell...it was almost as if Chloe was BEAMED to Edgars side. Even HE didn't see her standing there!
The real-time thing is very elastic on this show.

Yeah, the preview sorta gave away why the plane was shot down and a lil more. This
ep is being played 3 times this week on fox because it's so pivotal, or
so they claim.  The spoiler on AICN said something about watching
Edgar throughout the episode, but whatever big thing Edgar did, I
didn't catch it.And I turned on my tv in time to see the
comercial 5-10 min before 24 and they made it look like Edgar was on
the phone with Fayed, but it was probably a red herring.  But how
awful would it be if Edgar was the mastermind behind it all?

I missed the episode a last week, and I'm not an expert on Air Force security.How did the Anderson guy pose as a maintenance guy and report to the crew chief, wouldn't the chief know the people on his team and question something when a new guy just shows up?Also, if a pilot who's scheduled to fly doesn't report in, do they still allow the plane he was scheduled to fly take off?  Wouldn't someone on the flight team recognize that this isn't one of the usual pilots?

So why was it safer for the President to be in the air again? Wouldn't they want him to land and be put into a bunker of some kind if all hell is breaking loose? The "nook-yoo-lar" meltdown issue was taken care of a while ago but everyone still wanted Air Force One in the air.And another thing. The President wanted to address the nation before the 11:00 news. It's already 1:00 am the next day on the East Coast as this last episode started. There is clearly a much higher power involved than Marwan. I mean most of his "lackeys" seem to be American and they seem to have access to state of the art technology. Either Mike or the new President is behind this. Speaking of Mike, how is it he worked for Palmer, but is now working for the party that ran against Palmer last season? I know someone could change their party, but it's very rare in politics. Yet another fact that doesn't make sense this season.

Doesn't Air Force One have some sort of tactical defense system? Don't some commercial airliners have them? why didn't AF1 use them? I don't think they have an escape pod like that Harrison Ford Movie, but I know they have something up there besides conference rooms and phone systems to call CTU.

AF1 does have a state of the art defense system.  There was a
special on Discovery about the plane, and although they wouldn't
divulge a lot on record, the show talked [speculated] about flares,
chaff, and other "possible" defensive stuff.  The main issue is
whether or not we have the technology to detect one of our own stealth
fighters in the air (perhaps AF1's escorts could have dispatched it if
this were the case).There's gotta be another mole involved in
this, and my money would be on Novak.  Where would the terrorists
get the tracking frequency for the football, info on the stealth's
pilot and flight plan, etc.?  The VP/acting president seems to be
just following Novak's lead, meaning Novak is likely to be truely
wielding the power in the White House.

He can't make a choice until he hears that Bauer disobeyed him (and got the information they need to make him feel safe, which I think Logan would like since he's hiding in that bunker like a little bitch!) and that's the one thing he's very sure of despite his advisors saying it might be good to give Bauer a little bit of time so that he can capture Marwan which can't happen if he's arrested right away, then when Jack's arrested right away and doesn't capture Marwan, he crys about it, saying it's not his fault. Chole is so sexy right now. But how many times are they going to have CTU agents killed so easily? It's getting very old, how can two agents be taken out by that one guy?Audrey's whining on behalf of DOD doesn't make sense, aren't the people who run DOD into taking action? I love how it took Chloe the commercial break to get prepped AND get to the house. Come on, everywhere in L.A. takes 15-20 minutes, not to mention the nightmare traffic.I'm so excited Palmer's back. Did it look like they are going to be in N. Korea or something next week? I couldn't tell from the previews but Palmer has something very sneaky up his sleeve. Finally, the VP turned president was such a pussy. He was driving me crazy.

Thank you SK for noticing the same thing I did about the "real time" gimmick not applying to Chloes Field Op!  I was in shock when only 4 mins had gone by and she was prepped...in the car...and basically AT her objective yet, when the shiz hit the fan...the quickest CTU could get anyone there was 15 minutes?!!?!!A motivated Tony Almeda coulda/shoulda been able to hop in a random Ford SUV and drive down there in 90 seconds or less!   Hell...it wouldn't be the first time.

He's pretty much a take no bullshit type of guy and whenever tough decisions needed to be made, he didn't hesitate to give the go ahead. We'd all would be better off if we had a real life Palmer in the White House. As for Mike Novak (dude with the glasses), he was Palmer's advisor in season 2 and went behind his back to oust him from office when he felt Palmer was making the wrong decision in not attacking a country believed to be behind the terrorist attack on the U.S. Turned out Palmer was right not to attack and he made Novak resign at the end of the season.

Unbelievable ending. Not so much that you didn't see it coming, but moreso from the standpoint of stopping one person from being saved in order to save millions. Granted it would be the right call in any circumstance, but it was still hard to imagine ever having to make that decision. As for the Chinese guy, I'm betting he lives, at least long enough to give the info, because in next week's preview they show them closing in on either Marwan or the nuke. As for Bill Buchanan, I was starting to like the guy, but the whole "I'm in charge and I should have been informed" routine is getting fucking old. Tony should pop a cap in his ass and then drag Michelle up to her office for a quicky.

I've seen it happen a lot faster.When Audrey went for Jack's gun I thought he would have to kill her or something, anyone else who did that would be done for (except that new Field Ops guy from the first couple hours who was able to put Jack down, then get shot by that guy in the lexus.)

Personally, and mind you this is pure speculation on my part, I believe that the Chinese subplot is a lead-in to next season.  My prediction is that at the end of this season, that wimpy-fuck of a replacement President is going to offer Jack on a silver pu-pu platter to the Chinese in order to make sure that the Chinese are appeased.  Season ends with Jack in a Chinese prison camp.  Next season will see the President, the real President shot down on AF1, taking charge again - tearing the VP a new asshole and getting Jack out of China in order to help in a new threat that he is needed for.Again, this is all speculation on my part.  I have not seen this theory floated anywhere else.

Interesting. I never knew it was revealed what party he was. Can anyone explain though how Mike Novick, who was Palmer's Chief of Staff, is now part of the staff of this term's presidency which is Republican? People in Washington just don't wake up one day and decide they want to switch parties.

one who poisoned Palmer in the meaningless season 2 cliffhanger. If
you're wondering, "That doesn't seem important, I don't see what the
big deal is" you are in my camp. I don't understand why she has such a
rabid following and why people see this as such a big deal. For me, I
will only see this appearance as worth it if they offer some closure
for that awful cliffhanger.

And I have no idea why they portrayed
Richard Heller as such a bad guy. How the fuck is he supposed to know
some random gay sex would be so important to national security?

It seems all that Mandy does on 24 is fuck and kill.  She did both last night.  Poor Castle.  He was my favorite red-shirt.  He was like the CHief O'Brien of 24.Agree that Tony is deader than dead.  But since 24 is known for it's swerves, I think somehow, Michelle buys it.I was actually pretty sure that Richard was hiding that he was gay when he got interrogated the first time.  Either that or a drug problem, because he kept ranting about "my personal life".An interesting observation a friend made, especially with Audrey's behavior again last night.  You can't spell "CUNT" without CTU.

That was really kind of lame. A bit of a let
down after this stellar season. And that's even ignoring how
implausible the whole thing was. And they didn't even say why Mandy was
involved with Marwan. What did she do for him, or what was she going to
do?One thing I do find interesting is that 24 could be a very
different kind of show from now on. If they just go and try to explain
a way for Jack to come back to CTU, that would be very
disappointing.

Well, at least now the next season will be a big change. They tried to do that with this season (having none of the regulars except Jack, Jack not working at CTU) but it ended up being Jack running CTU like it always is.This time he's on his own, for real. Unless he just takes over CTU somehow.

Quick thoughts:1) I wish that Marwan lived to see his plot foiled.  Him dying before the miss-ay-el (as Habib pronounces it) was intercepted was almost the same as him getting away again.2) Mandy's brief cameos in every season except season 3 need to be wrapped up at some point.  Is she just a mercenary for hire, or has everything been connected up to this point?3) I see season 5 as being Jack's mission to clear his name while helping the nation to avoid war with China.  I also hope that he caps that spineless excuse for a commander-in-chief (hopefully the real president is back in charge next season).

I just had a lapse during the both times I saw Star Wars but the
"NOOOO!" took place right as Vader donned his new suit correct? I
didn't think it sounded bad at all. I kept waiting for this big
hilarious part and it never happened. Oh well.After really
falling in love with this show this season I now either need to buy or
go to The Blockbuster Video Store to rent the first three seasons. It
will surely explain some of the returning characters whom I had no idea
who they were as they kept popping up. I also kept hearing the sad walking away music a the end of The Incredible Hulk at the end of the show. Great show though. I am really glad I decided to watch.

Wait, wasn't Chase and/or Kim supposed to show up near the end of the day?What ever happened with the Terror Kid? The kid they traded Jack for when Marwan had him. The VEEP was willing to kill jack because if he was broken the information he had might fall into the hands of Terrorists (The Chinese would share it) Couldn't marwan just get that info himself? Even Jack Bauer could be broken, I think it's been said on this show that everyone breaks eventually.

What an awesome two hours last night.  I thought for sure Tony was a gonner.  Glad he made it though.  The Curtis punch was the YEA!!!! moment.   Next season: The VP's wimpy ass is canned by the real President when he realizes what happened to Jack, and he wants to bring him back to the U.S.  But China wants him too.  It'll be 24 hours in Mexico with U.S. and China agents looking for Jack.

When they said that Jacks new phone had one minute of "clean time"....I thought FOR SURE that he was gonna use that minute to call Kim. That would've been a cool way for her to make a cameo...or at least have her name mentioned.

Nioce neat ending but few surprises. Curtis is like 'LUKE CAGE' bullet proof black man. Straight threw his PIMP Game down on that little white girl Dammitt BOY. Can you say BIOTCH! It did look just liike the ending of a Kung- fu episode or that show 'The Hitchhihker' that was like the twilight zone .

My first thought when they said Jack would have to cross the border was he's gonna be working for CTU Mexico in Season 5. Definitely was a disappointing end to the missle crisis. 24 hours of running around all of Los Angeles and hitting dead end after dead end, but it then ends with finding a damaged cell phone, sending the info to CTU, having it decoded, passing the info on to the Air Force, who then race to intercept the missile and shoot it down all within a 5 minute span.  <img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/dry.gif" border="0" /> So, did anyone else think that it was going to be Michelle who died and not Tony? When she was sitting in her car and got the call from Tony, by the way she reacted I was expecting to then see she had slit her wrists and would be dead when Tony got back to CTU. Was quite relieved to see her back in the office after the commercial break.

So, did anyone else think that it was going to be Michelle who died and not Tony? When she was sitting in her car and got the call from Tony, by the way she reacted I was expecting to then see she had slit her wrists and would be dead when Tony got back to CTU. Was quite relieved to see her back in the office after the commercial break.Absolutely...I expected her to hang up the cell phone & put it down next to an empty bottle of Valium or something like that.It definitely took something away from the ending to already know there was a season 5 agreed to, otherwise I would have been fooled for at least a few minutes that Jack might have actually been dead.  But all in all it was a another great season & I can't wait for the next one.  Hopefully they will be back in September, although I would sign up for a January start if it meant 24 straight weeks again.  Just as long as they don't get all high & mighty and take Soprano-esque break.

The show IS Jack.  It's called Jack Bauer Power Hour for a reason. I'm sure the season will start up next year with Keeler back in the white house, but shenanigans taking place because Logan's had his taste of power and he wants it back.  Remember - they could have easily killed the president, but they only incapcitated him.  They did it for a reason.I wouldn't be shocked if Chase made a return, as he and Tony are working for that private security firm.

Remember - they could have easily killed the president, but they only incapcitated him.  They did it for a reason.Not that it destroys the rest of your point, but as a matter of discussion - - I took it that the purpose of the indirect hit to AF1 was to not destroy the "football" so it could be recovered & used.  Whatever happened to the President was not really of interest as long as it appeared that he was the primary target long enough for them to recover the football unnoticed.

So, what did everyone think of the great graphics they used for Marwan's fall?  <img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/rolleyes.gif" border="0" /> Hans Gruber falling out of the Nakatomi building looked more realistic than that crap.  I didn't think of this right away, but I found it strange that Marwan was the mastermind behind everything all along throughout the whole season. Usually they reveal some higher up near the end, but not this time. Frankly, I was disappointed that Marwan was the top dog because it just doesn't explain how he could have access to all that top secret technology. It would have made more sense if a government was backing him. Hell, maybe in Season 5 we find out China was behind it and that's a way to get Jack back. "What's that? You want the man responsible for the attack on your consulate? Well, how about that little attack you perpetrated on our country?"
