Hey, my husband and I are having a dispute and I need some advise.
As some of you know I am doing the paperwork for his business and it is getting overwhelming, especially with tax time creeping up on us. I opted for hiring a person to come in once a month and not only help with the paperwork but to teach me how to do some of the things with taxes and book keeping that I do not know how to do.
I get to meet her on Saturday and will be paying her 25.00/hr to help me. But it will only be for a few hours every month instead of hiring a steady person every week at 10.00/hr. Which is saving us money because it is once a month.
I agreed to do a background check and make sure her refrences are up to par before we let her do anything with our finances.
He says it is a waste of money and for me to do it but he has never touched the paperwork and has no interest in helping me do it. But if he wants it done right I need the help. With this and Christmas and everything else in my life I am stressed to the max and on the edge of a break down.
What do you think I should do? Please be honest.
Also do any of you know where i can get the criminal background checks? Thanks in advance
Sarah

If you really need the help, I dont see why you wouldnt do it. Since its only once a month its not costing that much. If hes so againgst it, make him help you.

shouldn't a minister turn to God for advise?

Thank you for your response, he is saying that he will not trust anyone to look over our banking info, so I told him I would have her come in and show me how to do things on a sample company. Without having our actual info at her fingertips, is that a fair compromise? Or should I stick to having her get everything in order and trust her with the info. She is not taking it home with her and I will be with her during the whole process. What do you all think?

Of course, but God isn't posting on this board and I trust the advise of you guys as an outside opinion.
It is actually interesting because I was praying for help with the things in my life that are bringing me down and I stumbled onto this lady's post. So, to answer your question yes God helped me find her. But the question is not my intent but how I should handle the disagreement with my husband. So back on topic... what is your opinion of my current problem?

i would suggest meeting the girl, allow her to perform her job under your supervision. in the meantime 'when time allows' pursue a background/reference check.
being stressed out alot of the time is not healthy and your husband should be sympathetic and understanding. it would make his life and yours easier in the long run...
good luck!

he should be and a lot of the time i know he's trying, by taking me out to a movie or something but when it comes to a few things he is so hard headed.
some of the things are even about my health and he " won't allow" me to do certain things which drives me nuts because i don't want to upset him because i love him but then again i do not like being told what i am not allowed to do.
all i want to do is be happy, i am so depressed lately and it isn't all him, its my job, our apartment, working on having kids "eventually" being so far away from my family and feeling so alone. i am sorry i am getting off topic
thank you for your response i think i am going to still meet her with my husband here and then talk over his feelings on the subject. the woman is very open about everything and seems very nice. maybe he will see that also when they meet.

just figure on putting away 25-30% of each payment you recive. that should keep you safe for tax time. i've been doing this for my business for a while and i've always overpaid. also remember to keep all your recipts, and record them on a spread sheet, this will make it much more easy for the accountant to do your write offs. dont woory you will be fine, and if you need help you and your husband have my #. also i have a very good accountant if you need one.

The simplest and most important points you make are that this is bringing you a great deal of extra work and stress in keeping the books and preparing for taxes, and more important, you don't think you have all the information and skills to do the job correctly. It is hard to know what you don't know, and bringing in a professional to not only get the business in order but to train you how to do it right could save you and your husband from a real nightmare if the IRS or a state tax agency decides it needs to take a closer look.
Since he is trusting your judgement to maintain these critical records, then he must trust that you know when you need to call for assistance to put things in order, identify any potential problems and give you the education so that you can do the job with greater skill and much less stress.

I've known your husband since I was 15 years old, and I know how stubborn he can be. Put your foot down on this issue because if you fuck up working on your own, he will be even angrier. In the end, the best thing is to get the help and learn from this woman.

Maybe she can hook up a 3 some? Those always help.
EDIT: Note this is in ask the oracle, which is not thats life, which means we can make humorous comments.
For you grammar/spelling people, its "advice" not "advise"

a threesome would be cool.
seriously though thank you all for your advice, we are going to meet with her and see how the interview goes. she sent me her resume and it is WAY too good to be true, so we will be working off of a sample company if she passes the interview process.
Also there was another reply to my post so I hope all of this works out.
