I'm putting this in old school because the movie. I was wondering if anyone else here saw it and loved it when they were little. I just looked it up on imdb and it turns out the little fat kid who gets the robot to force the launch is Joaquin Phoenix. I also just realized the black kid is the one who played Lamar Latrell in Revenge of the Nerds. Man, I loved that movie.
Anyway, the reason this came up is, when I was little, Space Camp was so out of my league. I didn't think anyone really did it, but it came up in a conversation today and it turn's out my office mates husband went to it, and the guy across the hall did too. Did anybody else ever get to do this? Man, I'm so jealous, all I ever got to do was Boy's State, this crappy weekend long simulated government.

I wanted to go to space camp, too. I always thought I could be the next Elroy Jetson without the obviously homicidal undertones that I personally feel Elroy exuded.

I've never been, but I did go to the Air and Space Museum and got some Space Ice Cream.
And I thought Elroy had homosexual tendencies.

was it that expensive?
I just looked online, it's $824 for 5 days for the ages 12-14. About $100 more for higher ages.
I've been thinking about this movie since I posted this. For anyone who has seen the movie, did anyone else notice how ridiculously long Tish's belt got when they wrapped it around Max because the space suit was too big.
Speaking of Tish, man I loved her. I guess '86 put me about about 9 and Kelly Preston at about 24. Yup those numbers seem about right for funny feelings inside boys.

I used to DREAM about being on the shuttle in orbit with my friends however I always viewed it as the kind of situation where a bunch of kids will go but only the "teacher's pet" types would get to participate in anything worthwhile.
I didnt want to be one of those kids who had to watch the shuttle from outside while a select few kids got to go in it.

Dude.
I went to Space Camp.
Wheee!
Huntsville, AL, baby!
Two years.... one was "Space Camp" and the second level was "Space Academy".
It rocked. But it was totally expensive.
But I was a spoiled only child.
So there. :p

Yes, I'm one of those dweebs who went to space camp after seeing the movie. From what I remember it was a rather unpleasant experience.
