View Full Version : what a fucking waste of government resources

idiots.... (http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/12/01/scotus.religious.tea.ap/index.html)
Besides the obvious implications of telling people how to practice thier religion, what the fuck is the government doing wasting time and manpower on a small church with a unique manner in which they practice thier religion?
I'm fucking sick and tired of this bullshit. Between denying medical marijuana to fucking terminally ill, pain ravaged people and telling relatives of the comatose or vegetative family members they can't mercifully terminate thier loved ones even when they explicitly asked for it prior to thier condition, when is the government going to prioritize what's important in this country at this present time, like our security...
Argh so angry.
Oh and a bird in Hawaii is going extinct.

Wow, when I saw the title, at first it didn't bug me much. But then I saw it was the Bush administration pushing this on to the Supreme Court. Then, worst of all, I found out they're doing this to Brazilians!! GOD DAMMIT DON'T FUCK WITH US!!
To me this proves once and for all Bush hates us Brazilians.

From CNN.Com
Bush predicted that Iraq's elections would leave the world ''amazed that a society has been transformed so quickly.'
The man has a fundamental misunderstanding of how this world works. It doesn't work this way. You can't topple a regime and change the world within 6 months time.

The tea contains DMT, a controlled substance
whoooaaaaa DMT! I know as of like maybe 4 years ago you could legally buy it as a "research substance" - I guess they finally made it illegal. DMT is like acid times 20.

So, let me get this straight.
There is a federal law that states that DMT is a controlled substance and is not allowed in the U.S.
This church has DMT, violating this law.
Where's the problem?
We should allow this church to import as much of this stuff as they want because it's part of their religion? If some other religion decides that part of their beliefs require human sacrifice, do we hold this same ruler up to them as well?
I agree that medical marijuana should be available to patients who need it, but there are too many in the government (and public) who feel that this would open the door to across-the-board legalization of it. Maybe if the government can get a program for this in place, they can utilize a similar program to make this DMT available to this church as needed.

30 gallons of tea does not a drug ring make.
Afghanistan has a 2000% increase in opium production since the US liberated it.
We've got the time and resources to worry about 30 gallons of tea?

We've got the time and resources to worry about an ounce of pot, so I guess so.

what resources are being wasted? the supreme court sit in the same spot. people come to them. they get paid wither they listen to a case or not, and they get to choose what cases they hear.
as for the executive branch;
i'm familiar with this substance, it's very similar to khat. most of it is declared to CBP upon entering the US, so again they're providing the records to us. it's not like ICE or CBP are running a giant sting operation code named "Operation Earl Grey".
are there bigger issues to be dealt with, sure. but all illicit substances have to be tracked. one raid five years doesn't sound like a waste to me. It sounds like it's something they have been made aware of and don't like.

i just want to know what kind of church this is.
what icon of Jesus do they use, Jesus on the cross, with wearing a psycodelic "cat in the hat" tophat, nailed to the cross with glowsticks?

Well, considering they're Brazilians, it could very well be a really hot topless chick in a green and yellow thong backed up against a bright red and blue cross.

That's nice, dismiss a religious culture as a bunch of hippie ravers. Maybe they've been doing this for centuries, maybe the tea is part of thier indigenous religious practices which they took with them...
there was a time alcohol was banned in this country...wine is a huge part of judao-christian religious ceremony, and if memory serves, the religious communities were still allowed to use alcohol in religious ceremony despite the fact it was illegal....so if this substance is illegal and used in a religious ceremony, wouldn't the same arguement apply?

are you that joyless jeff that you can't see a joke for what it is? every thread has harmless jokes or puns woven into them. no one takes offence, and most partake.
Well, considering they're Brazilians, it could very well be a really hot topless chick in a green and yellow thong backed up against a bright red and blue cross.
that was dismissive of the culture and race.were you upset by that or did you take it as it as it was meant, a joke
so calm down.

i back what your saying 100% jeff, but at the same time we are talking about a controlled substance.
i can start the latter saints church of dustheads tomorrow, but shit ain't gonna fly. it doesn't make it right or wrong, but the laws in place are on our behalf. regardless of wheather we agree w/ them or not.
i'm more concerned w/ repealing the rocafeller drug laws in nys, which put so much of our $$$ and resources into non-violent drug offendors.
some small church in bumblefuck middle america doesn't effect me. buddys w/ a small amount of crack does.
this country needs an overhaul legally, but it needs to happen on the state level.

I saw a program where these pigmies were pulling caterpillars off trees, cooking them, and blowing them into each others noses & mouths with blowguns apparantly for the DMT buzz.

The "cool kids" at the all-night tribal dances do frogs & caterpillars together. They call them Frillars!!!
They even use fireflies for glow-sticks and hoodia stalks as pacifiers.
