Review: Christmas With The Kranks

"From the producers of 'Jingle All The Way' and 'Gigli'....." . If that doesn't make you have the green apple splatters, "Christmas With The Kranks" will send you to the bowl faster than goose shit! Is it possible to make a painfully unfunny movie about Christmas worse than that insipid Ben Affleck yuletide turd 'Surviving Christmas'....YES! I happen to be a closet Tim Allen fan (his comedy act) and liked his 'Santa Clause' flix. I have fond memories of Jamie Lee Curtis (you know....from the 80's, she was smoking hot!). After seeing her in a bikini in 'Kranks', I got physically ill. There is a God and he likes playing tricks on us middle aged men by making our dream girls ugly with age! That just a small problem with this movie. First off, it's not remotely funny, and the laughs come from people falling down for about 15 minutes total screen time. Next is the story, based on John Grisham's likeable book 'Skipping Christmas', about a couple whose daughter joins the peace corps, so they decide to save money by going away on vacation. Sounds like a Chevy Chase reject (complete with guest star Dan Ackroyd, who is a welcome asset) and it could be.
Directed by studio chief Joe Roth (Nerds in Paradise, American Sweethearts) and a very talented cast of great character actors (all wasted) like M.Emmett Walsh, Tom Poston, Cheech, Gary Busey's clone son Jake, and Austin Pendleton as Santa? Tim Allen seems to be pissed off that he was part of this steaming turd and his performance show it. My reaction..........Jaw dropping, mouth wide open, silent! I should have paid the ticket lady to punch me in the face a few times, it would have saved me the pain and the 2 hrs. This is the movie that will put an end to future 'Feel Good Christmas' comedies forever. Did somebody pee in the egg nog?
