View Full Version : Supporting Our Troops

Last week the footage of the Marine shooting the insurgent in the mosque drew worldwide attention. The Marine who shot him was wounded the day before and returned to the battlefield.
Now is the time for everyone who opposes the war but "Supports our Troops" to step up and take his side. This Marine did not want to come home in a bodybag. He did the right thing. During the Battle of Fallujah wounded insurgents were playing dead and when our troops would go to check them out, there were events of insurgents blowing themselves up, killing our Marines.
This Marine made a quick snap judgement and on the battlefield, if you hesitate you die. Kudos to that Marine, Semper Fi

Now is the time for everyone who opposes the war but "Supports our Troops" to step up and take his side.
Is it "supporting our troops" to make excuses for the adminstration that sent our troops into a war undermanned, underequipped, with deeply flawed battle plans that left hundreds of tons of weapons, explosives and nuclear material unsecured to be used against the troops, determined military planning with more regard for domestic electoral concearns rather than the military and political objectives of the war? I think you need to look at your own loyalties to the troops before you put "supports the troops" in quotes for opponents of the war.

"Snap judgemnt"? He had time to claim several times that the unarmed wounded prisoner was "faking." Then he fired point-blank into his head. If he was concearned that it was a booby-trapped dead body then firing his weapon at the guy was as likely to trigger an explosive as prevent it.
He may have actually had some reason for doing what he did, but the evidence publicly available right now points to a summary execution of a wounded unarmed prisoner - a war crime. I'm willing to wait for an investigation, but I'm not willing to assume this act was heroic just because he's an American soldier in a difficult situation. This act, excusable or not, has given the insurgents a major propaganda tool. If the events turn out to have been like they appear on the video then this guy has hurt the war effort that 1,200 other soldiers have already died for, and no amount of cheerleading by you or other supporters of the war will change that. The professionalism of our soldiers is what separates us from the insurgents and is the only way to retain the critical credibility to achieve any objective in Iraq. Ignoring that fact does a disservice to the majority of soldiers who act humanely and professionally in the difficult situation they find themselves in.

WRASLIN'FAN confuses his allegience to an political ideology with patriotism and support for the troops. If he cared whether the troops were supported or whether we actually win this war he would look at evidence objectively and rationally and support what we are doing to achieve our goals and challenge the things we do that are counterproductive. But instead he sees himself as a crusader against dissent from the party line, an anti-intellectual kind of dogma that proved itself valuable to Stalinist Russia, Nazi Germany, the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia and dozens of other anti-democratic regimes of the last century. He can wrap it in the flag all he wants but it's still the same old shit.

Whoa, calling me a crusader. It sounds like your little trip to Egypt is turning you into a Fundamentalist Muslim. your blabbering about the United States being compared to the Third Reich and some Fascist State is fucking absurd and pathetic. Your perverse undermining pf this country and our military is giving aid and comfort to the Jihadists Close to 60 million people said enough of your crybaby bullshit and thats a big reason why John Kerry lost. I have no problem with you disagreeing with our government but your extremeist opinions are downright idiotic. This country has had it with you and Michael Moores belly aching and constant bitching.

Actually, he was talking about you.
Nowhere did Yerdaddy compare the US "to the Third Reich and some Fascist State."
But please, continue, the uneducated can be so darn funny sometimes.

You agreeing with him is actually laughable and sad at the same time. He was not talking just about me. Anyone who disagrees with his ideas and philosophy is a Nazi. People like you and Yerdaddy are pathetic. Your judgement that people who disagree with you are uneducated and is a big reason why people are fed up with your idiotic rhetoric and is the reason why there is so much division in this country. We have had it with you and your quasi ambasaddor Michael Moore and the results prove it.

If the prisoner was previously shooting at U.S. soldiers from a mosque, then quite frankly, he deserves to be shot in the head.
All of the insurgents deserve that fate. At which point should I care about the death of this one? Should the fact that he was too wounded to try and again kill an American soldier somehow make me feel compassion for him?

If those bastards have no respect for their religion and place of worship, why should we. The Geneva convention says once its used as a place of combat its no longer protected from the Geneva Convention. We sent that scumbag on a 1 way ticket to see his 72 virgins. I wonder if he was saying Allah Akbhar

You agreeing with him is actually laughable and sad at the same time.
Please point out where I agreed with him. Where?
Where have I stated my "judgement that people who disagree" with me are uneducated?
Re-read what I posted, and you'll find the answer to both those questions.
(Hint: the answer is "nowhere")
But I'm expecting a answer with some kind of pathetic sentiment thrown in with Michael Moore. What does he have to do with this topic anyway?
Now, looking at your replies, you said:
shame on anyone who thinks otherwise
Well, it's obvious who is all knowing and righteous here, isn't it?
