I've been tracking each of the funds in my 401k week to week to see which funds are performing better than others. What I do each week with the funds is enter into excel the value of the fund. So for instance if Fund A on January 01 was valued at $20 and as of today it is valued at $24 I'd like to create a percentage from all the values of the weeks and get an idea of the percentage of increase. Granted the example I gave is a much clearer example of this. However I have some funds that may have moved 50› or whatever. I'd like to make a formula that I can enter to get an idea of which funds over time are performing better than others. The graphs that the company we have for the 401k are very vague so I'd like to measure it myself. I know what the monetary differences are, I'd just like to learn how to calculate the percent of increase or decrease to the funds if possible.

I know I'm probably looking a little too closely at this but it has actually been very educational for me.

take the difference between current price and buy price and divide that by the buy price...and do it as a percentage and that gives you the gain by % you made.

so say you buy at $10...it goes up to $11...divide $1/$10..it would be 10%

((cell of fund1 new price) - (cell of fund 1)) = difference (colum3)

(difference / cell of fund1) * 100 (column4)

so you need 4 columns

opening price, current price, dollar amonut changed, and percentage

Always subtract the new from the old, sometimes you will get a negative number which is fine, it just means you are losing money

Also set the 4th row to show all negative numbers as red if you want.

You can also add a 5th and 6th column for shares owned and current total amount in each fund.

Thanks to Monsterone for my first sig.
