It's too bad that the guy who caught the ball (Gerard Phelan) isn't as remembered as Flutie. As great a throw as it was, Phelan's catch was pretty impressive too.

Gerald Phelan got the be in the 1-800-COLLECT commerical a couple of years ago, though. So there's that.


And that team was only 8-2, with losses to WVU and PSU. It would so much of a better story if it was for the title or something. As opposed to a couple of years ago where Miami intercepted a Boston College pass and returned it (with a lateral, I believe) for the decisive score, preserving their undefeated season.
