Okay, so as scary as it might be, I became a "legally ordained" minister online by the ULC. But in order to get my certificate, I have to buy a package deal which gives you all the credentials that you will need in order to do weddings, funerals, rights of passage, etc.

How legit is this? Am I really Reverend Ravvy? Should I shell out the money for the credentials? Any info is appreciated.

If it's not legit does anyone have info on how to become a minister? Will being a girl change anything?

I looked in to this when a friend of mine asked me to consider officiating at her wedding.

Technically it meets the criteria necessary for many states, but depending on what you want to do, you will need to check with that particular state's criteria.

as for what ULC has to say:
While you don't have to purchase anything from the ULC to gain the legal benefits, entitlements and respect, we do offer a wide variety of materials to assist you in your ministry and/or business.

taken straight from the homepage of their website (http://www.ulc.org/)

My friend was ordained a minister when he lived in North Dakoda. He almost married me and my girlfriend one night but he wasnt sure if it would be legit or not.

I'm a minister with the ULC. You don't have to get the full set of credentials they sell to be legitimate. Order the least expensive set they have. As long as you register and pay their nominal one time registration fee, you are good to go - at least in Jersey.

I officiated at my buddy's wedding. If you plan to marry folks, the biggest hurdle you may have to get over is public speaking. There were about 150 people at their wedding.

Kind Regards,
Reverend - Mike.

I think it would be funny if you married a couple, and a few kids down the line they find out it was not legal and that their children were all bastards.

if a priest can touch little boys, a kind hearted christian like myself can be a minister... i am not teaching the power of the group C.L.I.T. I am just being myself.

Hey there, I think it's pretty damn cool that you want to become a minister. Out of curiousity how much would you get paid for your services and do you know if ppl from Canada can apply 4 their certification?

Thanx!!!

The ULC is legit, but they'll let just about anyone in.

If you're serious about the clergy, better to become a Unitarian Minister. it's harder but it has much more gravitas and you'd be leading a real church.

Really? Interesting. I mean if just about anyone can become ordained minister through the ULC then it certainly does sound dubious as I consider myself an honest Christian and beliver. But this Unitarian Minister business does sound more apealing. If u don't mind telling me, what would my responsibilities be and could a girl do it as well?

Thanks a lot! :)

Unitarianism is a well-established religion (several of our presidents in the 1800s have been Unitarian). Anyone of any sex, race, or sexual orientation can be a minister. The general belief of Unitarianism is that all religions and belief structures are legitimate and that none is better than the other. Prayer services take from all religions: the minister might quote from the bible at one point, then refer to Confusius or Lao tzu the next.

Needless to say, you have to know your shit.

I sometimes go to a Unitarian Church in Rockland and have thought of going to seminary school for it, but I probably won't.

I find this very scary since about 5 years ago you were listening to Manson and calling yourself the antichrist.

I still listen to Manson, but I never actually said anti-christ. I said my in-laws think I am the anti-christ, but they are better now. I opened their eyes to the world of being open minded and non-judgemental.

My father seems to have an issue with this also, but this is my calling and I will do my best with it. 8)
