Whatever he gets will be no where near what he deserves.
Not very buddhist of me, but he needs to be captured by some sick covert operation freaks who just torture him for weeks and weeks - having surgeons slice off pieces of his body, and sew him up. ANd then do it again and again until there is nothing left but a beaten torso begging to be put of his misery.

We captured his base of operations and killed up to 1,000 insurgents of the estimated 20,000 in Iraq. While that's a good thing it's not much of a gain since the assault was telegraphed for up to six months, (the insurgents knowing that it would come days after the US election), and were able to evacuate the city and launch counterstrikes across the rest of al-Anbar province.
There's also the political cost of the, (in my opinion necessary), assault on Fallujah - that it has probably undermine the larger objective in Iraq - the legitimacy of the elections in January, (or rather, waiting until after the US elections and only two months before the Iraqi elections risks the Iraqi elections, but that's secondary of course).
In the big picture, I think we've already lost.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed the rash of yellow ribbon and red, white and blue ribbon magnets popping up on the backs of cars everywhere lately. Most of them have things like "Support the troops" and "God Bless the USA" on it, and while they are all fine and good, I find it interesting that these have suddenly been showing up for sale at post offices, drug stores and other retail stores en masse just a week after the election, when the heaviest fighting since the war began was to kick in again - as 'Daddy said, something everyone knew was going to happen.
They are EVERYWHERE now. Some SUVs have one of each - one yellow ribbon, and another patriotic one. Along with the American flag ones.
The magnets, at least the ones on sale at CVS here in Virginia, are made in Taiwan.
I just don't think there are any coincidences any more.

As for the supposed Zarqawi headquarters, soldiers walked through an imposing building with concrete columns and with a large sign in Arabic on the wall reading "Al Qaida Organization"

The Marines have a seperate fund of $40 million to compensate Fallujans for destroyed houses and dead family members. There's another $90 million for reconstruction. This is a good thing and is a good high-profile opportunity to do something right for a change. Buuuuuuuuuuut then there's the fact that of the $18 billion allocated to the CPA by Congress for reconstruction of Iraq only $333 million was actually spent. I'll wait and see.
I will mention this positive sign: The Marines are making public statements warning of the costs of abandoning Fallujah - sort of a pre-emptive warning to the Pentagon leadership against abandoning Fallujah and wasting the effort that the Marines made to take the city back. The Marines have been refreshingly candid about the failures of civilian leadership in the Pentagon, and they came to Iraq last year, taking over for Army units, with a view that to date the occupation forces had neglected the reconstruction and the political and psychological aspects of the war. They recognized that this was an insurgency that can't be won by brute force alone, but that they needed to win the "hearts and minds" of the Iraqis. I only wish these guys were running the whole show. Maybe we'd actually have a chance to win this.
