My license/driving record is a MESS. I have a million unpaid tix in several counties on Long Island & NYC (and one in Buffalo)
I anxious to clear this up but I honestly don't know where to start. It's kinda intimidating.
Anybody out there know someone that specializes in this kinda thing? I dont know the first thing aboot finding a good Lawyer.
If I get pulled over now...I'm probably going away for a while.

ps:
I suck.

i would start out at the dmv, request a driving record and pay any tickets that you can there. then take your licence, cut it up in litle pieces and buy a bike.

there are enough dangerous drivers out there ... take a stand and walk

Just a joke here from a movie line, but something like...

Secretary: 'It's Skidmark on the phone again, he says he's in jail and needs your advice...'

Jim Carrey as the Liar Liar Attorney [grabbing phone]:

STOP BREAKING THE LAW, ASSHOLE !!!

Liar Liar. Great movie.
But seriously...I acquired a few tix before I joined the Army and it was pretty easy to ignore the problem while I was enlisted.
Then I got out and kept promising myself that I would take care of it "one of these days".
Now I make a living as a touring musician, and I don't really need to drive...but the problem still needs to be addressed. Problem is; I can't miss any gigs just to appear in Traffic Court.
This blows.

what are your tickets for?

I got pulled over with no license/insurance/registration/inspection when I was like 18 and never paid the tickets.

What I did was when I was around 21, I called the courthouse of the town I got the tickets in. I had a bench warrant for each ticket because I didn't pay or show up for court. I had the money to pay the tickets right away.

It ended up costing me over $2500 in tickets and bench warrant fines. And my permit was suspended for 6 months for the no insurance ticket (automatic 6 month suspension in NY plus $1500 fine).

I talked to a lawyer first, who wanted ONE THOUSAND dollars and told me I could be arrested when I went to pay the tickets, which was bullshit, the court just wanted their money. You can fix this yourself, unless its like a DWI or something.

Also, your insurance will be screwed for a while... I thought that since this all happened when I was 18, it wouldn't hit my insurance, but they count from the date you PAID the ticket, so all this crap just fell off my driving record now.

Thanx Missy.
Even though it's an added expense..I think I'm gonna obtain a lawyer and have him appear on my behalf. I really cant afford to screw this up and a lawyer may know how to work the system. Seeing as I have no DUI's or anything like that, I hope the court will be lenient.

Glad to hear that things are working out for you though. I know it must be a tremendous weight off your shoulders.

Oh man, I didnt know that. I just paid a ticket I got in '93. The insurance companies have their own set of rules when dealing with tickets and moving violations that differ from the state or city laws. Great, now I play the waiting game for my insurance to go up. Why cant we have ONE set of rules and laws when dealing with this?
