Hi all,
Well, my interest in Mp3 HDD players was originally sparked by the U2 iPod, but since I thought it was a bit stupid
to pay 50 _ extra for it to get a 50_-off coupon for something I wouldn't buy anyway, I looked at the original... Having
seen that one, I decided that I might better fork out a little extra to get a 40 gig (the U2 iPod is only in 20G), to be
safe with what I'd like my collection to be. Long story short (well, too late for that :-)), I also began to see other
possibilities (iRiver HP140, 340, ...), and now I'm actually a bit lost. So I thought I could maybe describe what I need, and if anyone has any
pointers, feel free to respond...
First of all, I'd like to listen a lot and to a good quality of music (does the iPod lack bass?), and I must say I like the iRiver better in battery
capacity (I read 16 hrs/3000 recharge cycles, is this correct? It sure is a big difference with 12 hrs/500 recharge cycles)
I'd hate to pay 99 dollars every 2 years or so for a new battery. I'd also like to use the device to work as an external HD,
since my computer desperately needs a format, and for transferring purposes etc. I think iTunes is a good concept for a
music store, are the files there in a format that can only be played by the iPod? Recording is another feature I'd like to use,
both for music and at school (we now have to write reports about conversations with simulation patients, and I'd hate to go
screwing around with the video tape they make of the conversation). Are there any quality/limit issues with recording, say,
on the different iRivers? Gapless playback would be great, but I haven't found any players (that are also great in other aspects) that do
this, have I missed one? On durability, I know I'm not the most handy person, and I'd scratch a too fragile player too soon.
Also, I know iPod prices, but I have no idea for other prices here in Europe. And the speed of transfer, are there any players
that completely drop the ball here? From what I've read so far (it may not show, but I've already spent days searching the net,
but I want to verify my info and check things I'm not sure of...) I can't tell. So, does anybody have any advice on what to get,
I've been looking primarily at iPod and iRiver, but are there other MP3 players, that would be great for me?
Anyway, thanks a lot all for reading, I just need the clarification... Thanks in advance.

PS. I consider a remote to be a pretty handy feature too, if it's properly designed :-)
