I would honestly have no problem if they trade Floyd for nothing and have Victor Diaz playing left next year.
As far as Wright goes, heres a guy that in just 69 games hit 14 home runs and drove in 40. I think hes ready to bat 5th in a lineup and will be able to protect Piazza more so than Cameron who strikes out over 200 times a season.

The Mets relievers need work, but theyre not as bad as youre mmaking them out to be.
Heath Bell didnt give up many runs in 24.1 innings pitched last year, had a 3.33 ERA and strikes out more than a batter per inning.
Mike Dejean was fantastic after coming to the Mets, in 21.1 innings pitched he sported a 1.69 ERA, struck out 24 and walked just 5.
Feliciano was very inconsistent but as far as lefty mop up guys go, he's alright...
This kid Fortunato they got along with Zambrano did alright. And Im not even sure if theyll have him on the 25 man roster.
Matt Ginter and Jae Seo are pretty good long relievers I think.
Tyler Yates has a ton of potential, I like him a lot.
And Branden Looper did great last year no problem there.
Heredia....ehhhhh....

And the Mets have a guy in the minor leagues named Yusmeiro Petit who you should keep an eye. At St. Lucie last year he had 62 k's and a 1.22era in 44 inn. Then he moved up to Binghampton at the end of the year and had 16 k's in 12 inn. And he has 53 k's 8 bb's in 50 inn. in the winter league this year. He just turned 20. He may start at Norfolk but I could see himm getting a shot at some point this year.

yea they have, and the current one cant play more than 20 games without gettin hurt.
izzy sucked with the mets, he is a good closer. burnitz sucked as a met, left and was great, came back and kinda sucked again. guess who blew ass as a met, JEFF KENT. goes to SF and wins MVP. many other guys who were never good, but alot more servicable on other teams then the mets. everyone who plays for the mets plays better on the other teams they played for sans piazza.

He wasnt all that great in 04, though thats not to say he was bad either. He pitched 28.2 innings in Binghampton. 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA, struck out 23 walked 11. I dont know the deal with them leaving him open but they are still pretty high on him.

reyes, yea, ill say is fuckin terrible. he is a 20 year old kid who pulls more muscles than i do. he cant go 3 weeks without hurting something, and on top of that, seems to be afraid of playing hurt.
to me, thats even shittier then having a bad player. at least you know a bad player sucks, reyes is good, so you count on him being good, and then you dont know when the hell he is gonna play, fuck that

Reports are 84/6 from Astros. 14 per. So much for the 16, 17,18 we've been hearing. More Boras BS. If the Mets do 15/7 (105) I think it's a good deal. Little high, but not enough to go crazy over.
BTW Mets fans expect his #s to be a little less in Shea. They usually are for most hitters.
Yanks are out of this, and most reports will tell you that. If they signed Beltran for 16 mil, add to that the 40% luxury tax. So now he costs 22.4 mil per for the Yanks. PLUS they already HAVE a centerfielder in Bernie making ANOTHER 15 mil this year. So centerfield, for 2005, would cost the Yanks 37.4 mil. Not happening. Even George isn't that nuts.
Plus w/George the question always is "Will he help us win this year?" The answer w/ Beltran is no. They'll win w/or without him.

When George covets a player as much as it was rumored that he did in this case, I find it hard to believe any financial consideration would stop him from signing him.
I'm not arguing that the Yanks are out of it, because I think the Big Ugly negotiations have appeased the master. But if those talks wrap in the next few days & Beltran is still out there, and the Mets are back page everyday with these talks, I wouldn't rule out a last minute offer from the Big Stein. And, as we all know, if it contains an extra $0.50 per year, Boras will be all over it.

For once I would like to see boras do the best thing for his player by keeping Beltran in Houston. It makes the most sense for the team and the player. Going to shea to watch a game is hard enough, let alone having to work there(no matter how much he is paid).

There was a very good article in the Times yesterday looking at the Yankees' finances.
Here's the link, (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/06/sports/baseball/06yankees.html?th) but I think you need to register.
Consider that in addition to a 2004 payroll of $187.9 million, Steinbrenner, the Yankees' principal owner, was saddled last year with two other large expenses: $63 million to be paid into Major League Baseball's revenue-sharing fund and $25 million in luxury-tax payments, a penalty that only the Yankees have paid in each of the past two years. That meant that $276 million went to players and less-wealthy teams, from total revenue estimated at $315 million to $350 million, before Manager Joe Torre, the coaches, the front office, the minor league system and the rent were paid.

Why is this anybody's business? He caught it, he keeps it and does whatever the fuck he wants with it. If he keeps it, auctions it, or has his boyfriend shove it up his ass every night why is this anyone's business?
John Henry has a few sheckles. If he wants it, he should work out a mutually agreeable transaction. Or maybe if this guy's stupid enough, he'll let everyone bullshit him out of this valuable piece of property. But acting like he has no "RIGHT" to do this is fuckin communist.

The team has an option to renew it at $4 million for 2006 but has said it intends to trade Mientkiewicz or its other first baseman, Kevin Millar, before spring training.
Geez, the guy plays half a season, now were trying to trade him, and he doesn't have an undying bond with the city of Boston? Go figure.
"Of course I want Red Sox fans to see the ball. The main reason why I hung on to the darn thing is because I want people to see it. "
- Doug Mientkiewicz
D.M."And you'll get the ball . . . . . . . . . FROM MY COLD DEAD HAND!!!"
Sox Fans "THAT CAN BE ARRANGED!"
So who owns it?
"This is a gray area as to what players think they can take with them," Lucchino said.
Carmine Tiso, spokesman for MLB, told the Globe that Mientkiewicz owns the baseball. Joe Januszewski, Red Sox director of corporate partnerships, said he thinks the team owns it.
Lets see. Who will I believe here. Someone from the impartial office of MLB, or Lucchino or someone else who works for the Sox. Hmmm. Give me a minute, I'm sorting through this. Hmmmmmm. . . . .

Dodgers signed Derick Lowe to a 4 year deal worth about 36 million.. dodgers have made some pretty good off season moves this year.. so they lost beltre but picked up kent and jd drew to pick up the slack.. not sure where kent is gonna play because cora is such a better defensive 2nd baseman.. cora and izturis are one of the top double play combos in the nl..

They could always play Kent at 3rd... The outfield looks good even without Green. They got 6 very solid pitchers in Weaver, Penny, Jackson, Ishii, Perez, and now Lowe. They have a good player at every position except left and catcher...bullpen is very good, capped off by gagne...I dont see how San Francisco or the DBacks will be able to compete with that...

WFAN's reporting The Mets and Beltran are working out final details, deal likely.
Congrats Sill, Tool and the rest of you Mets!
He's a real good player and a solid addition to any team. One of the best Centerfielders in Baseball. Between him and Cameron you'll have a great defensive outfield.
Just dont be upset and say he's a bust if he hits 26 HR's 100 RBI's and bats .280. Those are his career averages. Maybe even expect a little less in Shea, a tough hitter's park. Runs, steals bases, makes all the plays. No flaws in his game.
Again, Congrats!

I keep hearing Baltimore, a great hitter's park. Geez the #'s he'll put up there.
I hope you get him. Not only a slugger, he also has a great eye, and .392 career OBP. He's actually a little odd in that he strikes out, but walks alot too. Mets get him and in that weak division, they just might be favorites. Still need some bullpen help.

The Mets officially get the award for Biggest Offseason In Baseball.
They hired a new manager from the Yankees in Willie Randolph.
Got one of the biggest names in pitching with Pedro.
Got the absolute premiere free agent in baseball with Beltran.
They scooped up Miguel Cairo, who had a pretty good season with the Yankees last year.
And there's still talks of Delgado.
The Mets have gone from a last place team to what could potentially develop into a playoff team.

Randy Johnson, even before formally signing with the Yankees, has already had a run-in with the press. "Get out of my face," yelled Johnson, reaching out to block a TV cameraman as he left his New York hotel.
This seals it, Randy Johnson is done for. He already is fighting with the NY press. They will go for blood now and his whole season will be a cluster-fuck.

I couldn't be happier with Randy's let me pitch and leave me alone attitude. In today's age of self-absorbed athletes :cough Schilling cough: who crave nothing but attention and cameras clicking away it's pretty refreshing in my opinion. And he's going to lay an egg why? Because the Mighty Media is going to impact his fragile weak mind to the point of causing him to lose all of his pitching ability? You're right, after all it's not like this guy isn't some veteran hall of famer he's a rookie just getting acquanted with the game after all. You can continue being a homer about your Metropolitans, that doesn't bug me. Please, however refrain from throwing all logic out the window.

If anything is gonna fuck up Randy Johnson, it's gonna be his cartilage-free knee or his creaky back, not the media. That was some hilarious video. This guys a fucking dick, just the kind of guy I want going to the mound in Game 7. My favorite part wasn't "Don't talk back to me" its the last thing he said, "Or you'll see what I'm like."
EDIT:Correction, my favorite part wasn't the last line, it was the long silence between "Don't talk back to me" and "Or you'll see what I'm like." My second favorite part was the sheepish "Welcome to New York" the cameraguy spouted out as Johnson walked away. He didn't say much when Randy was in his face.

Right well your original reaction to this whole situation of how Randy is going to lay an egg opening day really had no relevance to him getting in some camera man's face. Like somehow his relationship with the media was going deteriorate him as a player. You as a Mets fan should know about a guy named Willie Mays who wasn't much kinder towards any reporters or writers. How about Ted Williams, ever heard his name mentioned as on of the all time greatest players ever? What was his relationship with the media like? The fact that a player has experienced the media before doesn't change his opinion or perception of them. Did Ted Williams bat .072 because his relationship with the media was something like mine between rush hour traffic?

What I meant was if he doesn't like one camera on him what is his reaction going to be if he has a rough outing against the Red Sox and the fans boo him off the mound and there are 20 cameras and 50 reporters waiting for him, asking him what's wrong. I don't think it will effect his pitching, he should win the Cy Young. But I remember the Mets beating him up in a playoff game in 99, but Arizona's media isn't NY's. So, who knows? I didn't grow up as a Phils fan, so you may be right, but I remember him more as a loner & weirdo than a jerk. I can just imagine his preseason rituals being dissected by the modern day SportsCenter, etc. The guy used to workout in a vat of uncooked rice...yeah, today's sports journalists might have let that go with a polite, "Steve really doesn't want to talk about his workout habits."

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Carlton (http://)
Carlton slumped in 1973, losing 20 games. The media's open questioning of his unusual training techniques led to an acrimonious relationship between them and Carlton, and he severed all ties with the media, refusing to answer press questions for the rest of his career.

In my opinion the most likely scenario is that the Mets sign Olerud or trade for Minky from Boston and then trade for Sammy Sosa. Yes the Mets are going to have a good portion more to spend but I just don't see them now going on to picking up Delgado. In order to obtain Carlos he's probably going to have to be willing to give a hefty discount to New York and go down from his asking price. I think in the end he might very well end up with Florida once it becomes evident the Mets probably won't hand this guy 15-17 mil a year.
Delgado may be asking too much (http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/content/sports/epaper/2005/01/11/a7c_marlins_0111.html)

But I remember the Mets beating him up in a playoff game in 99
Oddly enough, that team OWNED him. He killed the rest of the league, and if I remember correctly, gave up 7 runs to the Mets in one game, and lost all the others with them that year.
This, of course, means absolutely nothing. Dont draw grand conclusions about a player just because your team did well (in one year) against him. The KANSAS CITY ROYALS owned Mariano Rivera at his peak 96-2000. Slappy little team and nothing on the line. Mo went on to lead the Yanks to 4 rings.
So, who knows? We'll find out soon enough. But you can't say you liked the way he reacted yesterday.
I loved it.

Then Duke asked him for an interview (You know, since he approached him in the proper manner) and he said "No". THEN the cameras start rolling, and thats what everybody saw.
2) The fucking press MAKES THEIR LIVING ripping people to shreds. Then when someone stands up to them and says "Fuck you I'm not gonna put up with it" They cry foul. If you're gonna dish it out, take it. Dont be so thin skinned when someone tell you to take a hike if you run people out of town every day of the week.

Tool......you're calling a guy who missed time last season for sneezing durable?
No. I'm calling him MORE durable than Cliff Floyd. My grandmother is more durable than Cliff Floyd is, and she's 139 years old and has rickity knees, arthritis, and bones made of chalk.
Sosa had a horrible, HORRIBLe year last year, yet still had 30+ bombs and 80-90 RBI. That right there is what Clilff Floyd calls a GREAT year. See my point?
Still, I'd rather start the year with super K Cameron in right, Mantkayvicch at first, and the rest status quo. Let Victor Diaz play right while Super K fixes his masterbatory injured hand.

Sosa's Dominican, Pedro's Dominican, Beltran and Delgado are Puerto Rican. There's about 800,000 Dominicans and 1 million Puerto Ricans in NY. Oh, Minaya's Dominican too. It's as much about marketing and building a future fan base as anything else.

This, of course, means absolutely nothing. Dont draw grand conclusions about a player just because your team did well (in one year) against him.
My point was that he has been bad in big games before but he was in Arizona. If he does that this year against the Sox and then pulls some "I'm not talking to the media" thing, he will get killed in this town.
And if he was so right in his reaction yesterday, why did he apoligize like 5 times during his press conferance?

Because he had to. I'm sure the Yanks, he and everyone else wanted to put that behind them. Oh, except for Duke, who stood up, introduced himself as the guy "He met yesterday" and asked his stupid question. Duke. Guess what. YOU'RE not the story. Nobody gives a fuck about you.
Boonie, I actually agree that could have/should have been handled better. But there's TWO sides to every story. That was like the Rodney King video. When you first saw it, the cops looked like animals. When you saw the whole tape, it was still pretty rough, but more understandable.

Regular season games against a .500 Met team aren't "big games". Postseason games are. And he's been great, as you and I both said. At 41 (BTW his new #) it remains to be seen how much longer he can keep it up. But based on last year (at 40, w/bad back+knee) He pitched a perfect game, and was a Cy Young finalist on an awful team. I cant wait to see him pitch. I cant wait to beat the living piss out of the Bosox this year, who I think are way down pitching wise.

Not just against the Mets in regular season games.
Postseason stats:
1997 Seattle Mariners 0 2 5.54
2002 Arizona Diamondbacks 0 1 7.50
Not exactly lights out those postseasons either. But yeah, he probably will win the Cy Young, but he's not unbeatable.

Apparently Cameron's changed his mind about moving to left. Sucks, because they would have had a GREAT defensive outfield, which in today's game is more important than ever.
If the Mets are to add Carlos Delgado to their winter renovation, they'd prefer to clear some salary.
There is an upside. Could help them get Delgado. Need an outfielder to come back in a trade, unless you go w/kids (Diaz etc)

I hope for the Mets sake that Byrnes has matured a bit from that playoff game two years ago with the Red Sox when he was coming home, collided with Varitek, missed the plate while the ball went flying, and instead of touching the plate, or walking to the dugout if he actually did think he touched the plate, he decided to go over and gets in Varitek's face allowing him the easy tag and, of course, blowing the crucial run that would have turned out to win the game and the series for the A's.
That's the first and last thing I always think about when I see this guy.

Shea's a tough park to hit in, so some of these guys might not do their lifetime avg's, but I think Reyes and Wright are on the way up. Matsui should be better w/a year under his belt (My Matsui was). Most years you'll have a few guys overachieve, a few under. If you have enough overall talent, it should all even out.
Plus I dont like what the Braves did. They lost two important pitchers (Wright/Ortiz) and replaced them with Smoltz and a reliever (Kolb). Smoltz became a reliever because of arm problems. He's cleared to start again, but why fuck w/ a good thing. He's one of the best closers in Baseball. Can effect more games that way. And the reliever they got from Milwaukee was a one year. . . . make that 1/2 year wonder. Great in 1st half, lousy in second. And strikes out NOBODY, which means if he's a little off, its batting practice.

alot of pitchers now had tommy john surgury, its not as big a risk as most people think, in fact you usually throw harder after cause its a stronger tendon.
the braves will be tough, but with this lineup, the mets SHOULD win the east, even without byrnes

Good link Sill. When a team feels the need to so publicly announce that they are OK with a player, its seems weird. Chances are they are talking to Oakland, and they (Oakland) are dragging their feet about something, and the Mets think Beane figures "He said he wants out, why should I give up this much". Then the Mets announce with Cameron there "Everythings fine" Meanwhile, a deals on the table. He'll be traded.

A-Rod rips Schilling. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6854097/)
"To me it was just odd, because I mean we beat him a couple of times during the year and he was crying on the bench," Rodriguez said of Schilling. "And then he lost Game 1 and he wouldn't talk or anything. And obviously, he wins Game 6 and then he's still talking 'till today. So it's just something we as players have been accustomed to. But it's something I'm not worried about."
Nice. Now just learn how to hit in Games 4-7, and you'll be alright.

H-Box, please. Schilling hasn't shut his mouth since 1999, if ever. Schilling has been going around saying A-Rod isn't a "true Yankee", A-Rod has "no class", A-Rod's not a "winner", Yanks "will never win w/him on team", etc. So he (A-Rod) responds one time, in fairly tame language (compared to what Schilling said about him) and you make him the bad guy.
Baseball wasn't a big enough forum for big mouth Schilling, so he felt the need to campaign w/G.W. Bush.

Schilling is a grandstanding asshole who is getting way too much credit for the World Series championship, and he has no fucking business deciding who is a true Yankee. I wouldn't even be surprised if that wasn't blood on his sock, and he just squirted some red food coloring on the sock before the game just so he could bask in the grand New England circle jerk that followed the championship.
That being said, A-Rod, along with the rest of the batters, didn't do shit after Game 3. So he'd better back this up on the field in October.

I do like Gibbons. Hit 23 homers and drove in 100 a year ago before hitting 10 and driving in 47. The average is definitely a turn off as he has a .256 career BA. And he never steals either. If they do get him, they should definitely get someone like Todd Williams or John Parrish to help out in the pen in addition...

He was hurt last year, only played in 97 games, so that explains the 10HRs. But the .256 avg may be low but you're not going to get much higher on a good year anyway. He can also fill in at 1st base. He only made 3mil last year, so you take some of the difference between him and Cameron and give it to Delgado. I think you have to think about it even without the releiver thrown in.

The salary relief would be helpful. And you would be dumping a guy who doesnt wanna be here, and would miss the first month anyway. However before I even consider this move, I try really hard to make the Byrnes move go through...Oakland seems to want to do it. Try to make Mike want to do it as well. If not, its always good to have a Jay Gibbons type option to fall back on...

Yep, it's fucking brutal. Cameron sucked last year, was a total me player, and collected garbage homers when noone cared. Now he wants a trade? Fuck him, trade him to Baltimore where he'll never make postseason. Take Gibbons back, or a bag of hardballs, I don't care, I'm done with Super K Mike Cameron.

I think trading Cameron to Baltimore is brilliant if you get someone to go in the pen, along with Gibbons.
Gibbons' numbers will suffer in Shea, but I think he's the type of player Mets fans will wind up loving anyway. And Cameron's HRs when the team is up (or down) by 8 runs that no one cares about will increase, the smaller outfield will make him look like a Gold Glover again, and he gets the ego stroke of staying in CF. Plus, there's no worries about vacation planning or anything like that...he'll get to pack up his things on September 30th every year.
I think that if the Mets want to change their image of "the same old Mets," taking care of potential troublemakers like Cameron is a good place to start. You already got Leiter out of town (doesn't matter if it wasn't your choice), Johnny Franco will hopefully not be doing anything more than emptying garbage cans in the clubhouse, so the "commitee" is gone. Now start fresh & cut any additional problems.

Gibbons was turning into a very nice young player before he got hit with nagging injuries. Like tool said 978 is awful for a CF. You do not get that many chances a game. 978 is good for an INF but not an OF. A good CF should have at least a 990.

Report: Mets opt for 1B Mientkiewicz
January 26, 2005
BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - The New York Mets, spurned by free agent slugger Carlos Delgado, reportedly have wasted little time addressing their hole at first base.
According to an ESPN report, the Mets and Boston Red Sox have agreed on a deal that would send slick-fielding Doug Mientkiewicz to New York for a Class A player and cash.
Less than 24 hours after Delgado opted to sign with the Florida Marlins, the Mets acquired a player that is solid but unspectacular.
The 30-year-old Mientkiewicz had a rough 2004 campaign, getting dealt to Boston at the non-waiver trade deadline. He batted .215 with a homer and 10 RBI in 49 games for the world champion Red Sox after hitting .246 with five homers and 25 RBI in 78 games with the Minnesota Twins.
A career .272 hitter with 44 homers and 276 RBI in 692 games over seven years with Minnesota and Boston, Mientkiewicz was slated to split time in Boston - a scenario that did not appeal to him.
Mientkiewicz further alienated Boston fans by saying he was going to hold on to the ball that represented the final out of the World Series.
Management was hoping to put the ball on display and what initially began as a lighthearted story grew more and more serious.
The Mets had been hoping to add Delgado in what already has been an active offseason. Mientkiewicz does give
the team a much-needed lefthanded bat and the 2001 Gold Glove Award winner should solidify a young infield that
will undergo a bit of change in 2005.
The departure of Mientkiewicz leaves Kevin Millar as Boston's starting first baseman.
I don't like this. The whole point of trading Nomar was to improve the defense. Mientkiewicz brought that -- he gave the Sox a true first baseman. His bat may not have been as good as Millar's but I'll take his defense anyday. Now the Sox are back to where they were last year at first: Millar, with Ortiz and McCarty as the backups.
I hope Theo knows what the fuck he's doing.

Good for the Mets. He hit .300 in 2001 and 2003. Career .272. Great glove. The Mets have only won twice, in 69 and 86, and both teams were pitching and defense teams. They tried to do it with hitting in 2003, and it was a disaster. Shea's a tough hitter's park. Delgado, who was much better box office, could easily have been a flop in Shea/NL. They now have a team that could surprise everyone. Still hope they do Byrnes/Cameron.

I didn't say "best." I said "solid." It's not flashy, but they've got solid starters AND backup in the infield. They're basically set in those positions if ANYONE is injured, which is something they desperately needed. The Cubs got killed by WAY too much sloppy infielding during the end of last season.
The OF isn't as dire as you make it out to be. Sosa and Alou were good, but they weren't the end-all-be-all when it comes to outfielders. When they were out, the positions were covered without any trouble.
You're right about the Marlins, though. They're gonna be beast. They're basically this year's Cardinals.

Losing Alou and Sosa hurts, but they still have some solid players. If they can get Magglio that would help a whole lot. Guys like Lee and Patterson and Nomar are gonna have to step up and take on a lot of the slack...

If Maddux keeps pitching like he does, he can have whoever the fuck he wants behind the plate.
The only TRUE upside I see to this is the Cubs have the basis for a semi-longterm contender team...even if they don't make it all the way this season or the next, they have the foundation to keep things going for the next 3-5 years and not fall all the way off again.
They don't have a flashy team of the moment, but they've got a lot of good young players.

If Prior and Wood can stay healthy at the same time and Zambrano pitches up to his stuff. Then you have enough to be fine. The A's won divisions with much less offense. You do however need a closer other then awful Hawkins. Id rather have Hawkins from Carnivale Close games then him.

They went a couple times in the 80's, too.
The Cubs are what they are. Sometimes they lose, sometimes they win, but the fans still love 'em.

With all the Money the Cubs make with their Loyal Fans and other stuff they own Mojo. They should have had much more success then they have had. Its embaressing that they wont spend the money and reward the fans. Why should they have to trade Sosa to compeat for Beltran? Tribune has more money in their back pocket then George has in everything he owns.

You're right...but at the same time, a big part of their appeal is that they're NOT a money-machine when it comes to loading up the players.
What you're not understanding is that the fans don't feel we need to be "rewarded." We love the Cubs no matter how well they do. It's for the love of the game, dammit...it's just the kind of team they are and the kind of fans we are.
It's hard to explain to a Yankees fan.

Na man thats Bullshit. Im not saying spend 500million like we do. But the Cubs know that other then Redsox NY Giant fans. Cubs fans are the most Loyal Fans in sports. Cubs know that no matter What. Wriggly is a great place to go. And the fans show up Win or lose. So why spend Money. And thats fucked up. The Redsox found out You have to spend SOME money to spend. They went and got Damon Manny Schilling and others. And low and behold what happend? THEY WON. this curse shit is Garbage. Spend the money build the team and you will win. And BtW Snoogs. there was a Cub manager that went on a tirade and said somthing like that right? About the fans drinking and going to Cub games all day, and not having jobs.

The curse thing is more of a joke. The goat comes up, but it's nowehere near the fever pitch of the curse "legend" in Boston. Cubs fans, for the most part, realize that when the Cubs suck, they just suck. There's nothing magic to it.
And how much more money do they need to shell out? We almost made it two seasons ago. We have a real shot of going this year. Having 2-3 super-expensive players last year wouldn't have fixed how the team was just poorly organized in the ending weeks of last year's season.
When the Cubs win, they'll do it their way. And it'll take however long it takes. We're in no hurry.

Always with the jabs at Yankees fans, though!
You know, there are some of us who lived through the lean years & were still die-hards. We may have been more boistrous in our displeasure than Cubs fans, but that don't make us bad people.

I think Cubs fans and Yankees fans have completely different mindsets when it comes to what they expect from their teams (BESIDES the obvious comparison when it comes to World Series rings), and how they expect them to be run...

Agreed...for every true die-hard, there's the guy who looks at monument park & says things like, "That Babe Ruth, old #4, he sure was somethin' wasn't he?" I actually know a Yanks fan who I had almost that exact conversation with a few years ago.

Snoogs. Your owners are not Angels either. They have done some very shaddy business things. I think Henry is a very good guy and a great owner. Warner fucked the padras and nearly bankrupt them. But Luccino takes the cake as being one of the most Dirtbag people in sports.George and Henry are good freinds. Henry loves George so does Wilpon. NOBODY likes Luccino. I also like Epstein also. But Luccino is awful. And why are we Satans team? Beacuse we follow the Rules of baseball? We pay every bill Luxuary Tax Rev sharing. And the Yankees are the biggest Charity giving teams in sports. Whos the only team that Matched MLB donation to the Tsunami fund? The Yankees. Yea George does some stupid things like the dental insurance thing. But he is known throught the world as a great humaiterian. He has help a whole lot of worthy causes.

I think the main difference between the Cubs and other longrunning "legacy" teams is that the Cubs really don't have a "nemesis" team...a rivalry like the Red Sox and Yankees do, or the Yankees and Mets...not even with the White Sox.

With free agency there aren't any real "rivalry' games as there were in the past. Except Yanks-Bosox of course. Other than that, the rivalries are whatever 2 teams are playing well. The Cubbies and Astros have had some good games as well as the Cards.
Any combo of Braves/Cubs/Cards/Astros have been quality baseball the last few years. I hope to add the NY Muts to that list this year!
I'd hate to have the Cubs in a best of 5 right now though, with Wood and Prior healthy? Damn.
