It took Saddam 10 years to kill 500,000 of his own people - even if the report is only partly accurate, we should use this as an opportunity to see why the US will never be seen as liberators in Iraq or the Middle East.

Im removing the crying baby pictures because they are insensative to the passions some of you feel for this issue that is compelling you so. Im not insensative to "collatreral damage" and understand that if my loved one was killed by an errant bomb or poor planning, that Id be pissed off too. Our military makes every effort to avaoid collateral damage, we go out of our way to not hit shrines and mosques and we dont target innocents, unlike how the terrorists operate.
I stand by what I said that I do not believe that these numbers are reflective on reality and I an certian that wherever you people get your information is slanted in favor of the candidate that is in opposition to the current administration.
Im sure that there have been mistakes and blunders and that there is seedy elements in all adminstrations/military operations/units.
What Im saying is; if the rest of the world hates us, why do we have to hate us too? They certianly arent taking a stand and trying to do some good. The more you guys keep trying to make it sound as if we are "baby killers", the more your playing into the hands of the culture thats trying to destroy us! Remember::::

Speaking for myself I was being cruedly humorous. I don't rejoice about hearing of any innocent deaths. I don't care if terrorists die, but innocent people anywhere is always horrible. Is it a cost of war in general? Yes, innocent people always have and always will die in wars. I know it sounds selfish and cold but I do feel sadder when Americans die as opposed to people from other countries, however it does not take away from my feelings for those who die from those countries.

I've made some sick and disgusting jokes before. I also value our soldiers lives more highly than Iraqis. However, excluding Reef, the comments made in this thread reflect, IMO, some serious indifference to the death going on over there that has shown in some posters previous posts.

If you are going to have that postion, fine. Don't be surprised why the world hates us. Don't be surprised that people want Americans dead. Don't be surprised at the incredibly tough job our troops are doing. And certainly don't use the liberation of Iraq and the spread of Democracy as a reason for this war.

That's all just my opinion.

EDIT: I should mention that reef's and tool's posts were the only actual jokes. Keithy seemed happy with the "comment" not the joke, and blackbird seemingly thought anyone who cared was being a baby.

Alot of the Middle East hated us way before this even happened. The Middle East has, is, and will be fucked for a long amount of time.

I think people overlook human nature (chance similarities) too much at times. I highly doubt any of the previous posters know any Iraqis, and I'm sure they don't really care about them either. It sounds cruel, but it isn't, they are of little to no significance to me. Sure, the situation is shit and we shouldn't be in it, it's a shame that these innocent people get caught in the crossfire, but why does that require one to necessarily care?

My big problem with this is that they make no mention of the possibility that these civilians have been killed by the insurgency. Nor do they mention the fact that "women and children" do participate in the fighting.

Not that 10,000 is somehow "OK," but if I gave my boss an estimate that I would have a project finished between 10 and a 100 days, he'd probably fire me on the spot. In short, that's a lazy estimate.
