Is this Kerry's Oct Surprise or Bush's?
Both - it could get both of their bases out.

i'm not sure this would count ... something like this works for both parties and could push more voters to the polls ...

I think "The October Surprise" is supposed to be something that makes one party look really good, like "finding" Osama. Or perhaps something that makes the other party look really bad, like W's Child Porn collection.

Since Bush's base is already energized like never before, I'm thinking anything to get out the Democrats out to vote is a win in their column, since there are more registered Democrats than Republicans across the country.
But, who knows?
It is a timely, real life reminder of what is at stake this election.

I don't think this will get out anyone's base. Everyone was counting on him stepping down during the next term anyway.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if over 50% of American's even knew who he was.

Doo doo doo doooo
Doo doo doo doooo
Doo doo doo doooo
Aaahhh
Aaahhh
Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need
Aaaahh aaaaahhh
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
Lager than life
Doo doo doo doooo
Doo doo doo doooo
Doo doo doo doooo
Aaahhh
Aaahhh
Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
Aaaahh Aaaaahhh
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the end of the night
Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like a fire in my blood
Like a fire in my blood
Like a fire in my blood
Like a fire in my blood
Like a fire in my blood
Aaaahh Aaaaahhh
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero `till the end of the night
Oooh oooh ooh oooh ...

Or the nekkid pictures of John Kerry with Mike Dukakis.
I've seen pictures of W and Kerry naked together. Which party will that help or hurt?

From the Washington Post/Howard Kurtz column:
I could be wrong--it's happened before--but William Rehnquist's hospitalization could be the October surprise of this campaign. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/nation/columns/kurtzhoward/)..If you're a Bush fan, you want him there to continue to push the court in a rightward direction. If you're a Kerry fan, you like his litmus test--only pro-choice justices. But if you're an undecided voter who favors abortion rights, you might be motivated--by fear--to turn out if there are a spate of stories about whether Roe v. Wade can survive a second Bush term...
curtoid is always right...

Since Bush's base is already energized like never before,
based on what? if anything, I think Bush's base is feeling slightly betrayed by Bush. He hasn't acted as a true conservative would in many instances.

His base isn't true conservatives, it's the religious right. Two different things.

I don't think anything really counted as an October Surprise. So any chance of a November 1st Surprise? Early Nov 2nd Surprise? Are there stats about what time of day most people vote?
