As a Yankee fan, it pisses me off that people think the Red Sox never beat the Yankees after they sold Babe Ruth. Boston won the AL East in '75, '86, '88, '90, as well as AL Championships in '46, '75, and '86.
So basically you have the Red Sox beating the Yankees FIVE times before this year. Sure, we beat them in the playoffs in '99 and 2003, plus the tiebreaker in '78, but that's only THREE postseason matchups (and the tiebreaker is actually considered a regular season game).
Long story short, nobody should be SHOCKED that the Red Sox beat the Yankees, because it's happened before. To say this is the first time they beat NY in the playoffs is stupid because this was only the 4th time they faced each other after the 162 game season.
What is mind boggling is NO WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS SINCE 1918!!! NONE BITCHES!!! THE CURSE LIVES YOU BASTARDS!!!

One more thing - when the Yanks won the first 3, it was a fluke. When Boston won the next 3, it was a fluke. When it went to a game 7, it was NO FLUKE. Most everyone expected that before the series began. When it gets to a game 7, anything can happen.
Torre did a shit job of managing this series, he really did. Mussina should have pitched game four on 4 days rest. Even if he loses that game (as he did game 5), you can probably use him for a few innings in game 7. When you have a chance to win a championship, you go with your best. Thank God Torre wasn't manager in '78, or Guidry wouldn't have started the tiebreaker.

As a Red Sox fan, it pisses me off that some Red Sox fans are so obsessed with beating the Yankees. It's like Redskins fans who feel year after year they must beat the Cowboys. Beating EVERY or ANY team matters. THAT'S how you become a champion.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't care who they beat or where they beat them -- just win one fucking World Series in my lifetime.

Um, haven't we been discussing exactly this kind of thing in the playoffs thread?
