Churches and Movie Theaters have finally united for a good cause (http://www.comcast.net/News/TECHNOLOGY//XML/1700_High_Tech/cbca64c4-3480-4c42-b7db-978d77585581.html)in Japan, Italy, and Mexico.
MONTERREY, Mexico - It was the reporters who noticed first. Unable to call their editors while covering the weddings of the rich and famous, they asked the priest why their cell phones never worked at Sacred Heart. His reply: Israeli counterintelligence.

Very cool stuff. Gotta love unforseen consequences of technology.

A friend of mine is in a band that tours japan regularly, and the opera and classical music halls have been using something like this for a while, like the article says.

I think some halls are such that it isnt local boxes like in the article, the whole theatre is shielded. I also read somewhere of a device that does something that gives the same result, but uses something different: It makes the cel phone read "All Bars" but the phone is useless.

In this months Popular Science: An article on High-Tech Stalking; peeps stalking via GPS transceivers planted in cars. Or even in phones.

Imagine your cel phone [some do this already] was emitting a signal such that someone with the right technology could not only locate what building on what street in what town you are located in, but the room and the floor you are on. This we can do.

Amazing that 20 years has passed, eh George O?
