I am sure this is not a suprise to anyone, but NJ is ranked the highest average cost of car insurance with NY being a close second.

Everyone from DC do not laugh, because you are third.

Here is the link with a chart (http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Insurance/Insureyourcar/P88635.asp)

They say the average NJ driver pays 1182 per year for insurance. I say that sounds low. i do not really know anyone who pays under 1500. but i mostly know younger people.

What does everyone else around here pay?
I pay 2200 per year

In those three, followed closely by Rhode Island and Massachusetts, drivers paid annual average premiums in excess of $1,000 -- almost double the average prices paid by motorists in Iowa, Maine and Idaho and about a third more than the national average

think we're around 3200 for two cars w/full coverage and additional extended coverages like 500k for unisured and underinsured. this also includes our home insurance so i would say auto is a little below 3k

I think that figure is brought down by older people. they pay cheaper insurance and usually have older cars.

i have a friend who is "high Risk" who pays 6300 a year for just liability.

I get the whole enchilada through Geico for under $900 a year and I'm a real "Larry Leadfoot." Yet another advantage to living in city George Bush Sr. once described as "Little Beirut." The trade-off is there's little decent pizza to be had here.

USAA does indeed rule.

However, if you have decent credit, you can get Geico in New Jersey. Geico is one of the companies that bases your insurance on how your credit is, and they just started business in NJ this month.

Check it out. My co-worker has semi-decent credit, and he managed to chop 350/year off his insurance.

Some factors about insurance...

1) Your age and sex
2) Where you live (Crime area, etc)
3) Previous driving record (duh)
4) How much money you owe on your car
5) Your credit rating (for companies like Geico)

NJ Manufacturer's rocks.

I pay a $1000 a year with everything including collision. Plus I get a dividend check at the end of the year.

Yes, but like USAA, you need certain requirements to be in with NJM. Whether it's through your job or something else. You just can't walk up and join NJM.

Geico is probably the cheapest "everybody welcome" insurance.

hahahahahahahaha whoa boy

jeff and i are on the same insurance because we get like a 10% discount for both being on the same plan. The down payment alone for a year was $2,000... I think our yearly premium is like $7000. This is in NJ and on the evil "state plan".

maybe if NJ made the driving test a little harder, there would be less idiots driving up the cost
