Beer pong with or without paddles?

Just curious how the general population out there plays the game of beer pong / Beirut. Got some portable tables at www.spamspamspam.com, but they make the game pretty tough if you play with paddles. Me personally, I've never even seen the game played with paddles, but apparently a lot of people do.
