Clearly this is an instance of a man exercising his free speech rights and the Bush administration's intolerance of his views that the president must die.

I don't like the idea of anyone wanting to kill any sitting president. I wasn't alive during Kennedy so I couldn't imagine what that was like to live through. Though I remember as a kid when Reagan was shot how insane it was.

Here's another link to the story from the Daily News...City alert in threat to Bush (http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/234225p-201129c.html)

Lawrence Ward, 59, left his upstate New York home Wednesday with a .30-30 lever-action hunting rifle in the trunk of his car, telling a neighbor, "I'm not coming back."

If Bush was shot and killed it would make him a martyr. Everyone would remember only his "great" deeds and what a "terrific" president he was. They would not remember what a total douchebag he is. That's history for you.

Thomas A. Beckett: He was hated by the populace until King Henry II asked to be rid of him, and he was murdered. From the hated fallen favorite of the King to saint through murder. Even King Henry II begins to worship this murdered "saint," even though his hands are the bloodied ones.

Joan of Ark: Laughed at and left to die by the French king she helped. After her murder, she becomes instant saint. Who remembers that she was pushy and arrogant and made many military mistakes after her initial "miracle."

Lord Darnley (husband of Mary Queen of Scots): He treated her badly, contracted syphilis through fornication with many women other than the Queen, was a raging alcoholic and hated by the Scots. He is murdered "mysteriously" and suddenly becomes a saint, despite the hatred that was aimed at him for the whole of his marriage to the Queen of Scots.

To go along with Katylina...

Abraham Lincoln-He will be remembered for getting the country back together but damnit, we won't remember him for doing that horrible thing of freeing the slaves. Damnit, we would all be, white people, living the good life if we had a few slaves to do our bidding.

I'm not so sure about that. Based on past experience, I think this administration has demonstrated an inability to go after the source of a problem and instead focus on the problem's politically inconvenient neighbor.

So I would advise the Upper West Side to watch out. ;)
