Resident Evil topped the charts. I don't know about anyone else, but this looks like a piece of crap. The trailers didn't make it come off as remotely frightening (the first movie sure wasn't) or even slightly original. After seeing the Dawn of the Dead remake (which was just OK) why should I see this? Oh well, it's number one now, so we'll just keep getting more shitty horror flicks. God help us, this decade, so far, has provided a major lack of great entertainment.

if you think of it as a horror movie yeah it sucks, if you think of it as the run of the mill action movie witha zombie twist (which it is) then its above average.

I just checked www.boxofficemojo for this but: You Got Served, Van Helsing, Butterfly Effect
The Village, Alien vs Predator, Exorcist and Resident Evil all had bad reviews from the critics but all opened #1 at the box office.

I think this is either a sign of more people not listening to critics or that people like to go movies with pretty lights with no substance.

dude...shitty movies debuting at #1 is nothign new in the movie industry...

if you pick the right weekend with little to no competition and phrase how are you #1 correctly, you can be #1 movie at anything

for example if you have a comedy and there are no comedies out at the moment you can call yourself the #1 comedy in america...people do it all the time...

just remember the beach movies of the 60's were immensely popular for the time...the frankie avalaon/annette funichello surf films were #1's when the opened...
